Zostel Srinagar

+ I didn’t understand I am from Kashmir and this is only hotel in Kashmir where locals are not allowed. This is pathetic rule in this hotel why locals are not allowed and I didn’t understand who gaves them this kind of permission.

- The second time I stayed here, I requested to change my booking and the owner said no, stating that it’s his “prerogative” and that he didn’t want to. That would be fine if I didn’t turn up halfway into my stay that I’d paid for (when he thought I was away) to find a guest sleeping in the bed I’d booked. In the end I had to leave of course and the owner wouldn’t refund the tax I’d paid. He even threatened to call the police on me and called me an “asshole”, prompting other guests to intervene and call him out. This place is ridiculously overpriced and they will do anything to scam you out of your money. There are much nicer places to stay in Nishat and surrounding areas for cheaper.

- The owner is an abusive and deceitful man who will unashamedly shout and swear at you in front of other guests for basic requests. He clearly despises tourists (foreigners and locals) so it’s not clear why he’s working in the hospitality industry. Most people feel sorry for the other staff there who he disrespects and treats like slaves. When he’s around the atmosphere is super weird, oppressive and uncomfortable.

- I can’t decide what the worst thing is about this place, so I’ll let you decide: - The fact the owner is one of the most arrogant and insufferable men you will ever meet. He is constantly arguing with guests and trying to scam them. He ever swore at me, after which another guest intervened. - The fact that the hostel deliberately overbooks every day so you might turn up to find another guest in your bed and be charged 500 rupees to sleep on a sofa in the common area - The fact the management tries to cancel your booking or say you’re a no-show so that they can avoid paying taxes and fees - The fact the dormitories stink of sh*t and are filthy even though this is one of the most expensive hostels you could stay in - The fact the bedding is never changed (a pillowcase if you’re lucky, but let’s hope there aren’t any bedbugs)

+ L'auberge est incroyable tout comme l'ensemble du personnel, les chambres et les sanitaires sont propres, les équipements, la salle commune, le jardin et la vue sur le Dal Lake sont un vrai plus (havre de paix si vous aimez la nature). De mon expérience vous pouvez trouver facilement des compagnons de voyage pour visiter la région, il y a une vrai vie sociale avec également quelques équipements et activités proposées par le staff (jeux, musique) ... La meilleure auberge que j'ai fais en Inde durant mon périple !

- L'emplacement est un peu excentré mais vous pouvez (le staff renseigne bien) utiliser des tuk-tuk ou taxis partagés pour pas cher.

+ The lake views in the front and beautiful mountains forest views at the back makes it a perfect getaway in the center of Srinagar. Friendly staff and great food.
