Monkey Bunky - 3Monkeys Backpacker's Hostel

Filthy, dusty hostel with mattresses on the floor. Sketchy location, though building is safe and secure. Staff were very nice, but really did not like the place. Very dusty and bathrooms were worst I’ve ever seen in a hostel.

Very good location. But the staff comes across as lazy and isn't kind at all. Rooms are low quality and food isn't great either. Atmosphere is bit heavy. Wouldn't recommend.

We stayed there 2 times. The first one we had a private room which was almost inside the common area and didn’t have a key to lock it. The bathroom was shared and it was dirty with no hot shower and toilet paper. During the night after a very long flight we have been waken up by people shouting, singing and playing guitar at 3:30 am. Unacceptable! what's good its that its close to the monkey temple,you can have smal simple breakfasts ,you have a direct bus to thamel,you can meet travelers and see the sunset,whats bad its that its filthy. i stayed for a week and at any given point there was pee on the bathroom and and on the floor of the bathroom. the kitchen is dirty,you can not put anything in the fridge cause it will catch a mold. plus the blankets dont have sheets. honestly if they put a good cleaning can be a good hostel

Great points: Great location for the Monkey Temple. Private room was spacious and quiet. There is a locked door at the entrance with a door bell so it is very safe. Cute communal area. Breafast was very simple but still included. Less great points: Staff weren't very forthcoming with information, and I had to ask them for the key to our room. WiFi isn't great if you need to remote work. Breakfast doesn't start until 8am. NOT great: the 3 turtles trapped in a tiny, dirty tank all day :(

Some of the staff were a bit weird. When we arrived, they seemed annoyed that we arrived… we didn’t know why though… We were meant to be in a room together, though it was a common area divided off by a plywood wall, which didn’t reach to the ceiling. It was sturdy, but it wasn’t the best experience. It was also very dusty. The breakfast room was nice though and had a good vibe. People tend to be up for a chat about their travels. As hostels go, it was on the better end. It was not noisey or expensive. But it was definitely a hostel. So if you are looking for a cheap and quiet place, this may be it.

Monkey Bunky was a good hostel and I would happily stay again. There is a safe place to store bicycles. It lacks kitchen facilities so you can cook your own meals but they will prepare a meal for you or you can find a cheap restaurant nearby. The rooms are clean and the showers hot. It is a bit out of the way (not for the Swoyambhu Mahachaitya Buddhist temple) but everything is about 30 minutes walk or a quick rickshaw.

Stayed here for one night during quiet season, and got to pick a room to myself. Gave four stars for security only because there was no lock on the door, but felt very safe sleeping there. I was given a free breakfast of toast with jam, an omlette, and black tea. The place is on a quiet street in Swayambhu which is a nice neighbourhood in itself, close to the backpacker area of Thamel. Each floor had a toilet/wetroom with a hot water shower. Would be a great place to stay during peak season.

Nice hostel in a quiet location outside of the centre of Kathmandu which we preferred. Very friendly staff. Couldn’t lock bedroom door but were able to lock stuff away inside room and staff seemed very trustworthy so not an issue. Enjoyed our stay and the included breakfast was a great extra!

I had a good stay at monkey bunkey. It was even emptier than I expected, but this must be because it is before peak season. No AC and there were road works outside which was loud in the middle of the night, but for such a good price I really cannot complain. It felt very clean and breakfast being included was such a perk (though it was simple). All my questions were answered by polite and helpful staff, and I felt at home.

It’s a quiet, clean and nice hostel. The guys who work at the hostel are always kind and friendly with a smile on. They keep the spaces as clean as possible and even breakfast it’s included in the price. I will definitely come back if I have the opportunity. The location is good since it’s far from the tourist area so you can get food at great prices around it
