U Street Capsule Hostel

I got bite by bed bugs during my stay, it’s terrible 😖

• The toilets and sinks were dirty. • I had bites!!! Either from bedbugs or spider bites.

I had a bad experience staying at this hostel. Checking in was a weird process standing on the front step scanning a QR code and having to download an app to even open the front door. After staying the first night in one of their pod rooms I woke up covered in bites, after inspecting the bed sheets I thought it was bed bugs but it turned out to be mosquitos and dirty sheets. I got moved to a private room and the manager told me to put my bags in there, when I returned that evening my bags were gone, the guy at the front desk didn’t seem to care and said oh they’ve probably just been moved so they could clean. As a young solo female traveller seeing my bags moved from where I left them after being told they could be there this was a terrifying moment. They were later found dumped in a cleaning cupboard in the basement. Once I’d retrieved my bags I was in a bit of a state from the stress of thinking all my stuff had been stolen. I went back up to my room and about an hour later the same didn’t care front desk guy came with a breakfast voucher from the manager who realised he was the one who messed up. The hostel itself was in a good location and the person in the cafe the next morning was really friendly. I understand they tried to fix their mistake but this experience really ruined my time in dc.
