Copenhagen Downtown Hostel

The dorm was very hot, no ac and no fan. Very much noise from the locker under bed. Much noise from the outside. And I got some bites on mye legs, that looks like bed bugs. Did not tell the people working there because I discovered it after check out.

- toilets always (!) very dirty, partially unusable. Every day or night time, each of my five days stay. Also after addressing it. - reception could never be reached, neither by phone nor mail. Tried calling before my arrival, stuck in waiting line for over an hour, multiple times. (?!) - there’s a qr code in the floors for „help“. You get guided to an AI chatbot that doesn’t help at all and for example tells no one that cleaning would be needed. - no kitchen but fridges. - 4bedroom dorm was really dirty. The floor, the spaces, everything. The „cleaning staff“ came twice during my five days stay. Once only after I positioned the dirt personally at the reception. (Even right on my arrival the room looked horrible. Trash everywhere, old snacks all over the floor, just literal dirt from shoes.. disgusting!). - trash can always full. - nobody explained on arrival that there are fridges for example. Found that out coincidentally. - except two people the staff wasn’t friendly. - lockers (for suitcase after check out) cost half as much as another day of stay 😂 (what??) - all five days there was the same stuff in the showers (old soaps, old disgusting shavers, wet paper towels) and I wonder if they ever got cleaned. - very hot rooms, slept with open windows, though very loud because of bar, glass trash disposal in front of window etc - somehow I always had to cough when going to bed. I did not see mold etc but coughed every night and felt I couldn’t breath too great. (I felt healthy all week, but this worried me). - the mattress was very dirty, with old blood stains, black weird stains, fluids,… idk. Did not see bed bugs though. - rooms very small and dark. Four people out of their beds the same time was practically impossible to move around. - funny smell all the time. - three toilets and fours showers for an entire big floor with multiple rooms, capsules etc. is not enough. Especially when most toilets are too dirty/blocked to be used.

We had to move out right away because of bedbugs. This was 2 months ago and no one has answered us since then and no money back.

If you’re considering staying here, you’re probably broke like me and I get it. The price looks tempting, but believe me, it’s not worth it. I stayed for 5 nights with my girlfriend, booking a double bed in a dorm. The experience was awful: the bed is inside a sort of capsule, cramped and suffocating. The mattress is paper-thin, the pillows hard and uncomfortable. No hooks for your belongings, just a tiny shelf behind the headboard. Inside the capsule, noisy fans make it hard to sleep. My sheets were stained, though at least there were no bedbugs. The dorm had 16 people and only one clothes rack, immediately taken by others. I had to use a chair for my bags because of the poor hygiene and a fixed carpet on the floor that felt anything but clean. The bathrooms were even worse: around 20–25 rooms per floor but only 4 showers and 4 toilets, with the water not always working. Just one sink and one hairdryer for dozens of people. You can imagine the situation. The only positive aspect is the central location. Apart from that, the sleep is terrible and cleanliness is lacking. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Guys seriously bed bugs is really not okay for a hostel. I'm not staying.

Les capsules pour deux, c'est pas trop mal et plutôt abordable. Il manquerait peut être un coin dans la capsule pour poser un ou deux sacs. Une des deux prises chargeur ne fonctionnait pas. 3 douches et toilettes pour chaque étage mais ça fait le taff. Par contre les gens parlent fort dans les chambres le soir. Probables punaises de lit ???

Overall fine place to stay at, people were friendly and the staff as well. The bar is a nice place to chill at and it’s close to the main station. BUT our roomate found bedbugs in her bed and we did find some in our luggage after checking out, so watch out for that

Very very dirty, floors, walls, bathrooms, bed etc all absolutely disgusting. Hair all over the ‘clean’ sheets. We inspected the beds thoroughly for bed bugs and thankfully did not see any however there were many stains on the mattresses. The bar down stairs and the bar across the street are extremely loud and do not shut down until the early hours of the morning so don’t expect to sleep at all here. The bunk beds look like a prison cell. The top bunk is so high off the floor it is very unsafe. You can hear every sound in the hall ways. The key pad for our door didn’t work so we had to get a staff member to come and unlock it after he mansplanned how to use it. We were using it correct the whole time but the doors knobs don’t actually turn properly.

!Bedbugs! My friend and me came inside, saw bedbugs and left immediately. More people had them and left. We had to book a new hotel and we did not get a refund. Do not believe the reviews here, since the staff is asking/forcing people to leave good reviews. In order to get a refund, my other google review had te be deleted, end game: we did never got our refund (see photo). Disgusting place, please do not go.

There were bedbugs in my bed and wall. I could not sleep till morning. They bited me from everywhere. They have to do insect drugs for entire room. It was on the last floor

Outrageous! BE CAREFUL, there are BED BUGS, which apparently has been a thing for a while there and I wish I knew that beforehand. My room was smelling awful and the toilets were absolutely disgusting as well. The rest was fine honestly, but there is just no point in giving them stars for security or location if there is a risk of bringing BED BUGS back home!!!

Var bedbugs i sengen så våknet med masse bitt på kroppen. Kapslene var ikke særlig luftige så det var varmt, vanskelig og ubehagelig å sove.

The room was too small and a lot of dust were on the bed… Lucky that the sheets were cleaned and there were no bed bugs. And they really really need to clean the bathrooms more often. I feel like since its shared the other guests didnt respect the bathroom space.

I tried to get a refund on my booking as I was made aware of the bed bug problem at this hostel. They refused to give me money back.

I personally didn't have any big issues while staying here. Although the door for our room after entering the code, would not always open, you had to give it one or two quick big shoves to get it open. No fan in our room but the window open kept it fairly moderate, the bathrooms weren't super dirty but definitely were not clean either. One shower only had cold water coming out of it. Floor 6 is not the floor with bed bugs thankfully. Was in the mixed dorm and everyone was nice and respectful.

Wenn man Party machen, Menschen aus aller Welt treffen möchte und nicht so viel Wert auf Schlaf und Komfort legt, ist das genau die richtige Wahl. Selbst wenn man ein Doppelzimmer mit eigenem "Bad" hat, sorgen die papierdünnen Wände, Fenster und Türen für Entertainment bis in die frühen Morgenstunden. Die Dusche ist einfach ein Brausekopf an die Decke montiert. Wenn man also duscht, wird das gesamte(!) Badezimmer geflutet. Besonders problematisch ist allerdings der Schimmel an der Decke, der bei geschlossenem Fenster bei mir zu Atemproblemen führte, sodass ich nach einer Nacht abreisen musste. Die junge Dame an der Rezeption reagierte darauf zwar freundlich, aber die einzig gebotene Entschädigung war ein Kaffee. Somit bin ich auf den Kosten für die zweite Nacht sitzengeblieben. Zumindest von den hier häufiger erwähnten Bettwanzen blieb ich verschont. Fazit: Das Ambiente ist wirklich cool, locker und jugendlich, die Lage top, die Übernachtung selbst aber nur für feierfreudige und unempfindliche Reisende. Edit: Nachdem ich die oben genannten Kritikpunkte in einer Booking-Rezension veröffentlichte, wurde ich vom Hostel angeschrieben, dass sie mir eine Entschädigung anbieten. Dies Angebot wollte ich gerne annehmen - dann wurde mir aber eröffnet, dass dies wegen „des Systems“ nur möglich sei, wenn ich meine Bewertung lösche. Das offensichtliche Bestechungsgeld habe ich abgelehnt und finde es schade, dass so versucht wird, den Ruf zu verbessern anstelle an bekannten Problemen zu arbeiten. Daher noch ein Stern Abzug.

I was bitten the first night and when I saw them, I recorded a video and showed to the manager and the helpdesk, requesting checkout because I didn’t wanna stay there but I still had 2 days stay. We have had multiple issues with the hostel mainly regarding bed bugs. The staff have been extremely unhelpful and rude. It took multiple complaints for them to even give us a different room. They disregarded any concerns even with physical evidence. We have had to spend an absorbent amount of money getting rid of the bed bugs. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

If I could give less than one star I would. BED BUGS all over the room, staff had a very lukewarm reaction to it. DO NOT STAY HERE, we spent hours washing and disinfecting. The experience ended our trip early and we had to pay 100s of dollars to deal with it and make it home. Update: after weeks of back and forth “communication” we were almost unable to get our money back. They made us delete all our bad reviews that mentioned the bed bugs in order to be refunded as they claimed their “system” would not allow it without (which a Hostelworld rep confirmed was untrue). Definitely do not recommend.

BED BUGS EVERYWHERE. 2 stars is too high of a review for the debacle we went through. I woke up at 5am on the first night to BED BUGS all over my bed. We left after the first night and paid 100s of dollars on laundry and flights home because we had nowhere to stay. Getting a refund was an absolute mess, we could never get clear communication with someone who worked there. I was concerned that there were bedbugs as I got 1-2 small bites. I don't seem to have brought any with me home so that's probably not the case. The ventilation wasn't good enough for me so I slept poorly.

bed bugs! One week later, my body is still itching so watch out. the fascilities were gregreat and staff was friendly but it wasn't worththebitesonmybody.

I stayed there twice: once in the bunker bed and once in a "cabin"/capsule. The capsule had little hairs from previous guests under the sheets. I don´t know if this can be avoided somehow. A friend of mine got a bed with some bedbugs - but you gave her another bed which was fine. Prices in your hostel-bar are sadly a bit crazy - like everywhere else in CPH - so we avoided buying there. Would be nice though if prices could be more "traveller-friendly". Consider it.

Vor einem Aufenthalt im Downtown Hostel Copenhagen kann ich nach der letzten Woche nur ausdrücklich abraten. Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von 8 Personen vom 29.11 bis 04.12.2023 unterwegs, die in zwei unterschiedlichen Zimmern Platz fanden. Das eine Zimmer war von Schimmel (s.Bilder) befallen, welcher von einem feuchten, fauligen Geruch begleitet war. Im anderen Zimmer stellte sich nach 2 Tagen heraus, dass die Betten mit Bettwanzen befallen waren (siehe Bilder). An der Rezeption konnte uns zu keiner Zeit geholfen werden, da an aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen nie eine Person im Hostel war, die uns weiterhelfen konnte bzw. durfte. Vor Ort wurde lediglich auf den Hostelmanager/Inhaber verwiesen, mit dem man einzig und alleine per E-Mail in Kontakt treten konnte. Dieser antwortete unregelmäßig. Wir hatten zu jederzeit das Gefühl hingehalten zu werden. Zu keiner Zeit wurde uns ein anderes Zimmer, eine Rückerstattung der Buchung oder eine andere Lösung vorgeschlagen. Nachdem wir an der Rezeption nach Fotos von den Schimmelflecken gefragt wurden, wurden diese mit weißer Wandfarbe während unserer Abwesenheit überstrichen. Hätten wir also vorher den Schaden nicht dokumentiert, hätten wir keine Beweise. In der Zwischenzeit haben die Leute, die die finanziellen Mittel hatten ein anderes Hostel in der Nähe bezogen. Dem Rest wurde schlichtweg nicht geholfen. (English) After the last week, I can only strongly advise against staying at the Downtown Hostel Copenhagen. We were traveling with a group of 8 people from 29.11 to 04.12.2023, who were accommodated in two different rooms. One room was infested with mold (see pictures), which was accompanied by a damp, rotten smell. In the other room it turned out after 2 days that the beds were infested with bed bugs (see pictures). We never received any help at reception as there was never a person in the hostel on consecutive days who could or was allowed to help us. On site, we were only referred to the hostel manager/owner, with whom we could only get in touch by email. He replied irregularly. We always had the feeling that we were being put off. At no time were we offered another room, a refund or any other solution. After we were asked at reception for photos of the mold stains, they were painted over with white wall paint while we were away. So if we had not documented the damage beforehand, we would have no proof. In the meantime, the people who had the financial means moved into another hostel nearby. The rest were simply not helped.

The place is horrible, honestly. Dirty, smelly, bed bugs, bathrooms are super dirty. I booked for three days and left after the first night. They should be ashamed to call it a hostel.

For this fair price I really can't complain.

If you like bedbugs stay here. The room next to us had bedbugs. People were freaking out and had red spots all over them. Maybe stay somewhere else, staff also wasn’t very helpful and didn’t care.

BEWARE: there are bedbugs!!! My friends and I decided to take a gamble by booking a room at this hostel after seeing previous reviews mentioning bedbugs - hoping that management has responded to the claims and solved the issue. Warning: they have not, and, guessing from the response from employees after we informed them of our bedbug infested mattresses - they won’t ever solve their infestation.

PLEASE DO NOT STAY AT COPENHAGEN DOWNTOWN HOSTEL. They have a severe bed bug infestation - pictures attached! I notified reception about this and thankfully they changed us to a different room (which is the least they could do), but they didn’t offer anything as compensation for the bed bugs and they did not appear concerned in the slightest about the infestation! I emailed Hostelworld and the hostel itself about this issue and received absolutely no help. If you have any respect for your health and safety, do not stay here. Stay at another hostel in Copenhagen, a hotel, and airbnb, literally anything else. Besides the bed bugs, the washrooms and showers were disgusting and filthy. They literally had moths and bugs lining the showers, and the bathrooms always smelled and looked gross. Also, you have to pay to keep your belongings in their lockers. Every other hostel I’ve stayed at allowed you store your luggage for free. This hostel is ridiculously expensive for only offering disappointing service and a life threatening bedbug infestation. I repeat, do not stay here.

Edit: the reception were in contact with us and we are to receive a full refund. Downtown Hostel has a HORRIBLE bedbug infestation! Multiple dorm rooms with multiple dorm beds full with black spots. We received no help and no security once we brought the issue to light, just empty promises and a mail adress. Instead, we went to a different hostel - DANHOSTEL, can definitely recommend it - and now it's been a week since our trip and we've yet to receive ANY answer to our mails and NO REFUND. Do yourselves a favour - if you value your hygiene and self respect, stay at another place. Downtown hostel doesn't care about responding to mail inquiries, their bedbug problem or their guests.
