+ Music ok Food was decent
- Our room flooded The toilet was outside and we had to wear a raincoat to go Gross
These people charge you 50.000 for laundry service and then lose quite some of your clothes. They were also not very keen to solve this problem. Overall, this place is incredibly overpriced
Don’t get me wrong, when in Columbia and when looking for a party hostel, you might not be able to leave this place out. It’s just a bit sad to see that the entire Hostel game has started to evolve around greedy money making machines. 90k per night for a very simple 25 person dorm, 70k for tubing without ANYTHING included, more than 30k for rather small cocktails.. I don’t know guys, Hostels used to be a place for anti-capitalists and free spirits, nowadays it’s just back to the greed, s...
I was shocked to find some staff sleep in tents under certain rooms, which is appalling for such an expensive hostel. With no alternatives nearby, you're forced to pay inflated prices for everything, including takeaway boxes. Volunteers mostly stick to their own group and don’t socialize much. The WiFi is poor, there are no quiet areas, and loud music shakes the rooms daily from 2 PM to 4 AM. However, it’s very social, and making friends is easy. If you enjoy the parties, consider staying ne...
Went here specially for the supposedly incredible Sunday party, paying for expensive accomodation, which promptly ended at 1am. There was no explanation from staff as to why it had ended so suddenly. When I talked to reception the next morning I was informed that only certain Sundays have events which last past 1 am. This was rather conveniently not mentioned on El Rio’s website at all. Aldo the rooms were dirty and not well kept, and the toilets had no toilet seats. A complete waste o...
Did not live up to its vibe tbh. Party wasn’t my vibe at all, just your classic backpacker drink and do dr*gs fest and mediocre music. Be prepared for vomit. Place is super expensive and you can’t eat elsewhere due to location. While some of the volunteers were super sweet, some were just straight up aggressive and made me uncomfortable. It might be your vibe if you love the classic backpacker parties, but for an actual good night out I can’t recommend. Wish I would have skipped.
Wicked hostel, great food and if you like to party is definitely right for you. Great staff

Great place with a lovely space. Great food and the staff is lovely. Special shoutout to Niamh with her great work with the foundation. As well as Nigel and Keno for setting a great example of what it means to be a Rio volunteer!
Rio was the highlight of my Colombia trip! I especially had fun going into the community to play kids soccer, they are insanely gorgeous. Thanks so much to Sascha for brining such incredible energy!
Favorite hostel! So many fun activities and the foundation is amazing! Loads of spots to chill and socialize, comfy beds and great food. Special mention to Nigel in the bakery, keno in activities and Niamh in the foundation who all made the stay more enjoyable:)
Great hostel! Great parties. Keno is the best!
Fantastic time at Rio hostel and an epic party on Sunday night that went until 8am!! we got involved in all the activities and shout at to Matt who the activities super well and made it so much fun for everyone!! 10/10 would recommend
really enjoyed my stay in el Rio. the volunteers were so nice, especially Keno and Sophia!!
Very much enjoyed my stay here, the staff were great! especially Keno and Nigel they made my birthday a memorable one!! Will be visiting again if im in the area.
The hostel is good and nice and the food is great. This is more of an isolated get away which is nice if you’ve been on the move for a bit. Parties are okay but a bit of a younger crowd. No classic bush doof
Such a fantastic stay at El Rio - the staff work so hard to make sure you have a great time. Big shout out to Lucas for having such good energy! Also huge thanks to the cleaning team who worked around the clock even during the night during the Sunday night party to make sure the bathrooms stayed clean and stocked up etc. Tipsy tubing was definitely a highlight - recommend going and bringing along a big group!
Gemma was the best! Made our stay great! So happy to meet her and Santi! 💖
Had the best time ever! So much fun and the volunteers made it so much better! Big shout to Tim, Al, Matt, Arne and Santi
Had a great time here and at the party but what stood out to me was the work they do for the local community and the volunteering they do everyday which we helped out with, it was such a good experience and Sascha and Joe made it so fun
My stay in el Rio was amazing. But boy oh boy I must say tim and Matt really do the extra miles for the guests. Tim made my experience in the restaurant incredible and Matt made me feel so welcome and included me in lots of activities. Tim also taught a bunch of Spanish. Thanks el Rio, but most of all, thanks Tim and Matt.
Amazing hostel made even better by the volunteers. Shout out to Tim, Al, Sara, Sascha, Matt and especially Niamh for making everyone feel at home for the whole stay
Such a cool vibe, the volunteers were amazing and made our stay! (Especially Tim & Alistair from Aus
Unbelievable. Do yourself a favour and get the 6/8 man dorm w/AC. Save yourself from the 25 man
Hostel stay was underwhelming, the food was disappointing and when I mentioned issues to staff around food to hostel they didn’t do anything except try charge for additional sauce/ nachos/ cheese. Staff hostel volunteers were a bit cliquey and intimidating, big group didn’t seem to interact with guests, created a less inviting atmosphere, was unclear if they are meant to be engaging with guests/ getting them involved or not. Tubing was super fun!!! Best part of trip and hostel itself is ...
The hostel is good. I stayed one night in the 12 bed dorm but did not like it since my locker would not open because of the column in the wall and I was sleeping only with a mosquito net. I changed the dorm the next day to 6 bed dorm with AC and own bathroom, that saved my stay there. It’s in the middle of the jungle and very humid so not the environment for me. But the hostel is well built with restaurant, bakery, activities etc. The staff is super friendly too! The party on Thursday was nice...

it’s a good hostel but the hype kinda killed it for me also quite expensive
