El Retiro Lodge Lanquin

The staff is very unmotivated and very unhelpful! They don’t answer on WhatsApp, they don’t really help if you ask something at the reception. The wifi doesn’t work outside of the restaurant area. You’re not allowed to eat anywhere else than in your own room. No hostel atmosphere at all! BUT the tour we did over them was amazing and the guide (Otto) is awesome! So if you wanna spend the night there to do a tour to Semuc Champey it’s okay but not much more.

The pictures are matching the facilities. But the vibe of the hostel is off, the staff does not really care about the atmosphere. Food was mediocre. Even though people are just sitting for themselves loud party music is pumping...Kind of a wannabe party hostel.

Pros: - nice pool - warm showers - spacious dorms with lockers & mosquito nets - average food - prices not too bad (apart from breakfast which was overpriced) Cons: - transport price to SC is a rip off (fine if you go with a tour as it's included but not if you want to explore on your own) & transport staff were rude - no kitchen / self catering facilities and located a bit out of town so have to rely on their restaurant for all food - charge you...

Hartstikke cool. Maar wel alleen koud douchen en beetje vieze wcs. Zou m wel alsnog aanraden. Als ik hier ooit terugkom met mn kinderen ga ik hier weer terug

Not a very social atmosphere here. I stayed here and then went to Zephyr to hang out which is a 10 min walk. I booked the Semuc tour through Zephyr as well. There is no kitchen or place to keep food here, the staff were not happy when I asked to use some cutlery to cut some bread I brought with me. The showers were weird/ broken, they spray half the water over the stall. It's a 15/20 min walk into town to where you can get food in the local comedors.

L'endroit où est situé l'Hostel est magnifique. Cependant, c'est dans la jungle, alors boujour les bestioles. Nous n'avons pas pris de douche après que le soleil soit couché parce que il y avait plein de bestioles qui commençait à se promener dans les douches et les salles de bains (ce sont des douches et toilettes extérieurs). Le dortoir était correct. C'était confortable, mais sans plus. Le restaurant était bon, mais sans plus. Cependant, l'excursion qu'il propose pour Semuc Champey ...

The staff were amazing, and the sumac tour was fantastic. The food was good too. However, the hostel felt unfinished, with a dead atmosphere. Power outages in our room and only cold showers in the dorms were frustrating. We ended up hanging out at Zephyr Lodge instead, which had stunning views and great vibes. This hostel has potential but needs improvement.

Ik vond deze accommodatie tegenvallen. Er wordt overal gebouwd dus het ziet er niet mooi uit. De wc’s zijn vaak verstopt en er is geen handzeep. Je moet ‘s nachts je kamer uit om door het donker over gladde paadjes naar de wc te lopen. De douche was koud. De kamer was erg gehorig met muziek (van de buren?) tot 1:00. In de kamer stond alleen een bed dus je kon nergens je spullen ophangen of neerzetten. Personeel is wel vriendelijk en je ontmoet makkelijk nieuwe mensen.

Great hostel, lots of fun and in such a scenic location. The staff are great. We stayed in the private en-suite cabin and it was great value. The food and drink is good and reasonably priced. We did the river tubing which was a fun way to spend an afternoon. They have a pool table, table tennis and a volleyball net & the pool so you can keep yourself entertained.

What an amazing place a must if in the área

It’s a good spot to relax by rio lanquin. The front desk can organize activities and are well paced, if you prefer. Beds are comfy and lots of space provided in the dorm. I’d recommend no more than two nights since there isn’t much else to do. The shower is the weakest point, but they’re still functional. Overall provides a a good experience with great and accommodating staff.

Das Hostel ist sehr schön am Fluss gelegen und insgesamt ist es ein gutes Hostel für Ausflüge in den Semuc Champey Nationalpark (das Hostel bietet auch eine ganz gute Tour an). Das Hostel hat auch einen Pool, was für uns ein großes Plus war, denn der Fluss ist doch sehr kalt. Bezüglich des Restaurants können wir uns den anderen Rezessionen leider nur anschließen. Das Essen war teilweise nicht durchgegart. In Lanquin gibt es aber einige gute Essensmöglichkeiten.

One of the best hostel-stays I had so far in Guatemala! Relaxed and chill vibe, just next to the river. Hostel team is amazing and had a lot of fun! The hostel offers a tour to Semuc Champey & the cave, which is a must-do! Would definitely book again.

Amazing hostel! Spacious dorms with large beds including mosquito nets, personal nightstand with light and outlet, and large space beneath the bed to store (and lock) your personal belongings and bag (only missing privacy curtains, but there is nothing a beach towel can't fix). The showers were amazing, feeling as if you are in the middle of the jungle, while the showers get nice and warm and have great pressure. Es war alles super. Es war organisiert. Die Tour nach semuc champey mit Tarzan war fantastisch. Das Essen war lecker und hatte ein gutes Preisleistungsverhältnis .

Great spot on the river with a fun rope swing and jumping platform. Good to drift down the river, food was awesome, table tennis and pool table were great! Offered awesome tours too to surrounding areas!

Schöne Anlage mit entspannten Vibe. Das Restaurant ist nicht das beste, man wird aber satt und bekommt Lunch-Pakete. Das Personal ist sehr nett und man kann Busse über das Hostel buchen.

This place was amazing, was an oasis in Lanquin. We had an awesome stay. The Semuc Champey tour with Manuel was a highlight of our entire trip. He’s awesome and the tour was so worth it.

Beautiful location and super welcoming staff! While it’s advertised as a party hostel it’s more of a place for relaxing by the pool and having some drinks & games after dinner. Food is good and really affordable. We loved our stay here!

Amazing hostel on a perfect location right next to the river. Rooms are spacious and comfortable beds. The restaurant serves delicious food at a very reasonable price. The tours and shuttles run through the hostel are fantastic. The best part about this hostel is how friendly and amazing the staff are. Wish we could have stayed longer, this place is easily one of the best hostels in Central America!

Wunderschönes Hostel! Man fühlt sich sehr gut aufgehoben! Das Personal ist super super nett und aufmerksam! Ein ganz großer Pluspunkt sind auch die süßen freundlichen Hunde🥰 uns hat der Aufenthalt extrem gut gefallen!

We really loved this Hostel! Very kind staff and the food was also good. You can chill at the pool and also the general area was very cosy. The only negative thing were the hard pillows and the dogs that barked at 5:00 am.

Die Retiro Lodge ist ein ganz zauberhafter Ort. Es liegt zentral im Ort Lanquin und sie bieten Touren zu Semuc Champay an. Das Personal ist super nett und sie kümmern sich um alle Belange. Es gibt ein Restaurant mit solidem Essen zu fairen Preisen. Würde den Aufenthalt auf jeden Fall empfehlen! 😊

Very nice hostel: nice rooms with AC, clean showers and toilets but the people working are the highlight. Everyone is very kind and helpful. Thankyou!
