Exceptionally rude and uncooperative staff! The place had bed bugs and they weren't ready to even shift my room after I reported it! Also didn't refund my amount.

Very nice and peacful place BUT we had bedbugs and they just said, "oh we can't do anything,the person to clean comes in two days". They did not realize that this is a seroius problem, thats why I give 1 star. Whitout bedbugs or with a better reaction I would give more stars.

Got bitten real bad by BED BUGS in the space of just one night. This hostel has totally sunk to basement level probably why it is called shantee town, it is surviving on previous reputation for the former hostel that no longer exists. The renovation is terrible they have destroyed the hostel and now the tv room where people used to meet and hangout is visible from the street and has the receptionist sitting right outside with a window and huge open door so they can hear anything you are saying. not nice for them and not nice for the clients. really this was all that was good about this place that it had good place to chill out but now that is gone there is no reason to put up with such bad sleeping arrangments. shows the attitude of the owner or his girlfriend (ex?). they do not like people socializing there and have made it not comfortable anymore. Then they spent all this money on adding new floors and decorating the place (all very nice but first comes sleeping). It is foolish and an insult to the guests (used to be guests but they scapped that from the name it is no longer a guesthouse now just a house) to spend money on decoration to make it look good on the outside for magazine review or whatever but they have gone and put the most budget mattress that has metal bits sticking into you and makes it hard to sleep. Then there is a lot of noise from the train and street lights and these fire exit lights and no curtains so if you do get to sleep then you get woken up at first light and then there was BED BUGS. this is something that they never used to have but I saw it for myself and felt it. There is another review (on another site) that says there is bed bugs and instead of getting rid of them they have taken no action and there is still bed bugs. Amazing this place has sunk so far and is a purely commercial rip off with crappy matresses and bed bugs. goes to show what they really think of their guests. just cash machine and all the friendliness is totally fake. Some staff might be nice don't get me wrong but not the key staff who own and manage the place their attitude is just about making money out of tourists who don't know better. There are so much better options in budapest this just isn't worth it all bed bugs can make you sick and get into your clothes and be a real pain to get rid of could infect your home if you stay here. even the duvet confirms it it is the cheapest junk and it is way too hot to sleep with it the place is like 30 degrees celcius. the tv room is open to the reception so it is not good for socializing and was being used by this guy to make phone calls on his speaker phone and it was just generally antisocial with hardly any guests anymore other than the few staiing at their phones. I did meet someone nice (who had decided to checkout) but he also had a run in with the girlfriend.about not photographing the yurt because the owner wouldn't like it (although he is happy to charge good money to sleep in there on the floor which lets face it is a scam and not anything to do with culture just a place to squeeze in some extra floor mats) and then started accusing him of wanting to take photo to start a rival hostel renting out yurts (seriously she actually said this). As for me she made up some story that they were fully booked and was pressurizing me to checkout first thing when I was coming down the stairs in the morning instead of greeting an old customer who came first time 15 years ago. I have seen much in this hostel not good but atleast they used to have decent beds and a place to hang out now it is a health hazard and totally not a good place to meet people.

Chinches, en la noche comenzaron a picarme y pensé eran ácaros...Pero al otro día cuando viajaba me comenzó a picar demasiado, llegué a mi próximo destino y descubrí que me comieron las chinches.. falta higiene a esos colchones
