ControVento Hostel

AVOID - bedbugs. Reported to staff and dismissed. The stay and people were very lovely, but I unfortunately woke up to several bug bites all over my body. I told hotel staff and even pointed out the bed bug stains on the mattress (apparently I can’t attach pics but they were clumped little black stains on the bottom edge seam of the mattress). Hoewel het hostel heel dicht bij de stad ligt. Ligt het voor backpackers die met het openbaar vervoer reizen, niet top. Wij hadden een privé-kamer, die voor een hostel veel te duur was voor wat je kreeg. Hiernaast was er “muggengaas” dat geen enkele mug tegenhield. Er zaten meer dan 15 muggen in onze kamer. Naast deze minpunten is het een mooi gedecoreerd en leuk hostel, met vriendelijk personeel.

Won't stay again for so many reasons. Most importantly, they gave me keys that didn't work so I was locked outside of the building at 1am. Luckily, after a while someone arrived so I had the possibility to enter. When I told it to the recwoption in the morning, they only said sorry but didn't even think to offer compensation. This is a kind of mistake that you cannot afford to happen. Secondly, the room was so loud with noise and light from the street (cars and motorbikes all night).

The employees were very nice! Unfortunately the pillow was worn out and I had hair everywhere in the bed. The wooden floor cannot be crossed without making noise and you have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the hostel. Air conditioning doesn't really work... I'm glad I was only there for one night

Ostello in posizione eccellente, a due passi dal centro di Trieste. Esteticamente parlando gli ambienti sono belli nonostante gli spazi siano ridotti, livello di pulizia ok. Putroppo sul resto non ci siamo, le stanze se pur comode non hanno un minimo di insonorizzazione e fa molto caldo sicché la notte non si riesce a dormire vuoi per il trambusto vuoi per il clima. La colazione male, sono finiti i bicchieri e non avevamo di ché servirci, cucina mal organizzata e sfornita. Mi aspettavo meglio.

It was a nice hostel, we felt very safe which was the main thing. We had booked a private room and it was very clean and in good shape! The view was also fantastic! The main issue was that there was only a total of three bathrooms and one of which was a combined bathroom and shower, so you had to queue for quite a bit in the morning and evening. The bathrooms also had this very loud noise that came each time the bathroom was used. The breakfast was also very minimal. Overall a nice stay!

Ok. For the price I expected more. Food location. Breakfast was not good. Rooms ok. Kind of noisy during night!

Bathrooms were bad. There is nowhere to put your dry clothes/ toiletries etc within the shower recess so you just have to leave your gear next to the sink. You then have to get out naked ( while others walk in ) to get your towel. Also carrying my bag up 91 stairs to the 3rd floor was challenging

Alright hostel. Location is central but relatively far from the station. The breakfast was relatively bare, just slices of cheese+mortadella and yogurt and apples+oranges, I thought there’d be more choices considering the sign that says it is all sourced locally from the region. A few of the staff were very timid, which didn’t help with atmosphere at all. Also washroom let out a loud sound every time water was used, ie toilet or shower or sink use, and was very noticeable in room.

Good but some major draw backs. Good - Beautiful old italian building, good enough rooms and beds, nice staff, clean bathrooms, good enough breakfast, nice common room, feels very safe. 2) No AC. Just fans. When it's 30°C+ it gets really warm in the rooms. With little to no breeze or airflow through rooms. Would not stay here again in the heat of the summer. 3) Location is really close to downtown Trieste and the water, but close to a few loud bars and the main road. It can get noisy at nigh...

Definitely recommend! Very easy to get to from the train/ bus station. The building is from the 1800s and has a lot of charm. The showers are small but very clean. There is a lock to get in the main front door and the hostel door but no lock for the room. Staff is friendly and helpful and the room has a beautiful view of the water!

The hostel was very good, everything was thoroughly cleaned, no stray hairs on the sheats. I‘m really recommending this hostel. The location might seem far from trieste centrale but its really close to the city center, i believe it was 6 minutes from the pub.

super quiet place with great amenities!! perfect for a couple days stay

Beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Because it’s an old building the floors are extremely creaky and loud, so if you are in a room with other people it will be very loud whenever they walk around.

Séjour super agréable, personnel super accueillant et gentils, les lieux sont top, très jolie déco.

Controvento is a really good, traditional small scale hostel and it does everything right as an establishment of this type. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable, the common room is incredibly cozy and comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need to make good meals, they even have a dishwasher. Free breakfast is included which is very nice and you could even get free towels and earplugs, furthermore the staff is very helpful and friendly. All in all it's a very good experie...

Hermoso hostel en el corazón de Trieste. A pasos del casco histórico de la ciudad, de la lungomare y con mucha vida nocturna cerquita. El hostel muy limpio, ofrecen desayuno súper completo. Es pequeño, tiene una sala de estar hermosa. Se manejan ya al entrar buenas vibras💖

Amazing hostel, one of the best I’ve stayed. Super helpful staff, great facilities and fantastic location in downtown Trieste. Also quite cool to see the sustainability iniciatives and the promotion of local products and events as well. Bravo guys :))

Really nice hostel clean tidy location is fantastic. Trieste isn’t a huge place anyway but everything you need is very walkable. As a solo traveller making a quick pit stop it was perfect, if you’re looking for some “life” and atmosphere don’t stay here it’s very quiet and everyone tucks themselves into bed by like 9pm

Todo genial, muy bien ubicado cerca de la estación central y en un lugar privilegiado, es un palacio precioso, eso sí, hay que subir 3 pisos a pie, pero vale la pena.

Amazing hostel!

Overall really good property really enjoyed my stay here - the staff were very friendly and very helpful when we arrived. The only downside was that there was only 1 toilet and shower for our room of 10 so often meant having to wait to use the facilities however was not a major issue.

This is one of the best hostel’s I’ve ever stayed. I really appreciate the staff. They were the most kind and understanding people. Thank you so much for sending me my headphones back. You’re the best. Can’t thank you enough.

The Controvento's in a perfect location for anyone wanting to see the historic part of Trieste and sample its restaurants and cafes. The hostel's located in what was once the Serbian embassy which gives it a unique charm. It's also a fifteen minute walk from the train station. For those wanting to prepare their own meals, it has a good kitchen. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The dorm rooms were spacious and the common room, with its couches was a comfortable place to hang out.

Nice hostel in a cool classic building, pretty cruisie vibes with a good social area to meet people
