great dissatisfaction old hotel dirty polluted and the staff at the hotel were rude to us
Bad air ventilation. No windows open in room and door always closed . As someone hang their smelly clothes inside the room- So smelly!!!! I try to open the window but fail to. I think it is broken or mal functioning. Terrible . And toilet very smelly too .
This place was the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in, the bed sheets were dirty and bedrooms weren’t cleaned properly. Bathrooms were dirty and stank. Definitely would not recommend
Receptionist is crazy. She doesn't allow check in at 2:55 pm. It was long flight still they don't allow 5 or 10 minutes early checkin.
The bed frames are made of very very cheap metal. They squeak loudly if you move even slightly. Now when there are 48ppl in a room slightly moving all night, i recorded the noise level to be closer to 80 on average while maximum was around 110. Couldn’t sleep any of the days when i was there. Hostels with wooden frames that i stayed in didn’t have issues Apart from that the bathrooms could have been slightly more clean. No complaints apart from that, but if you value sleep, don’t s...
I paid in full 2 months before my arrival in Iceland. They cancelled my reservation 12 hours before my arrival with no explanation or alternative plan. Completely unprofessional and would never recommend.
I was left extremely disappointed by my experience. I had to wait while the staff finished smoking, and when she finally returned at exactly 10:08, she bluntly told me there was no more breakfast. Her tone was cold, dismissive, and shockingly disrespectful. Even when I politely asked if I could just have one plate, she flatly refused and removed everything without the slightest courtesy. The way she handled the situation was unnecessarily rude, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.
I stayed at Kex Hostel recently and was very disappointed by the hygiene and safety standards. • In the common kitchen a glass bottle was smashed and the fragments were scattered across the floor. I reported it to the front desk immediately; the staff said he would arrange cleaning but after an hour nothing had been done. When pressed, he replied that “people should clean themselves.” There was no broom or suitable cleaning equipment available — leaving guests exposed to the risk of cutt...
DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU VALUE ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE
Really cool spot, lively, nice decor. But my experience included other guests that wete highly creepy and my room smelled horribly like wet hiking boots. Very close quarters amd loud.

Pretty spacious rooms, weird vibe with all the creepy clown photos and dozens of random painting (even in your room). Also extremely limited lighting in the room.
It was really quiet , central, very clean, right on the Harbour and very walkable to central downtown area
Great place to stay! Rooms were clean and shared bathroom was clean and spacious. There is parking out front for P3 so you can leave your car and have peace of mind. They also offer cooking utensils in the common kitchen area!
I enjoyed everything about my stay here except that a few of the staff members were very unfriendly and unwelcoming to us. This alone would make me not stay here again but the facilities are nice and clean and the beds very comfortable.
Great value for money stay. It's a hostel so keep hostel stands. The location is great, walking distance to everything. Staff is very helpful and supportive. The check in process is very smooth and accommodating. I had a very nice experience. However the lack of upgrades to the kitchen and washrooms was a bit of a downer. Also there were a lot of shared showers with no privacy, which is surprising and uncomfortable for non Icelandic people.
Showers and toilets are great, staff are friendly and helpful. Room was fine (booked a large dorm and was upgraded to smaller). Kitchen was ok, a bit messy but nothing unhygienic. Biggest complaint would be that the room door doesn’t close on its own, and my roommates left it open every time they left, so my belongings were vulnerable. The lockers are also very tall and skinny. I could barely fit my backpack in, and I had to empty it first. But overall a good hostel!
The bathrooms on the 4th floor were perpetually out of toilet paper and paper towels.
Eveything was amazing. Thanks to all staffs.
It was a great location, walking distance from a lot of the bus tour pickups and food spots. The decor is super cute as well! We went during off season so not that many people, but overall it gets the job done.
The beds were uncomfortable, the showers and toilets were dirty. It was a very old building. The only good thing was the location.
"The house always wins" at a premium price. You pay top dollar here for poor management. When my door broke, staff left it wide open, completely exposing my luggage. The next day, they threw my toiletries in the trash for being out of my locker for under 20 hours. When I complained, they just blamed being "understaffed", fixed the band-aid ,without offering a proper compensation. The frontline staff try, but management makes this an insecure and highly frustrating place to stay.
The hostel is absolutely stunning, it’s an artwork on it’s own, whoever designed an interior is a genius. Highly recommend!
Second stay here - love this place. Very hip vibe and great location. Only downside is the construction next door - they started at 5 am this morning. With the window closed it was ok though. Bathrooms kept very clean and if you don’t want to relive middle school PE class they gave private ones as well - although it’s Iceland so you might as well get used to it if you want to visit the pools and hot springs.
The hostel has a good location. The equipment is unfortunately somewhat modest: In the mixed Four-room rooms there were Bed with Metallgestell - every movement also generates Lärm. The Curtains or Matts also give little privacy. I do not quite understand why Metallagges are also used, which in turn make a lot of noise. Apart from these there are Bathrooms with Single Shower, or Group Shower without Curtains. Breakfast with knapp ~ 19€ is too expensive and not recommended.
Los camareros un encanto. Me encantó el trato. 🫶🏻
Loved the location really close to the main street in Reykjavík, and really easy to walk more places. Had a cool, funky look to the place and Great staff there. the 42-bed rooms were surprisingly good when you consider their volume. Great beds/storage and well planned out. Kitchen pretty basic and got messy at times (due to guests) but always cleaned next day, and did the job. Same as bathrooms.
The ambiance was fantastic, KEX curates great opportunities to meet people in shared spaces. I ended up spending a lot of time with my dorm mates and making plenty of friends during my stay. The staff are all very kind, quick to converse and give local insight and recommendations. Pana was my favorite :). He was so helpful and honestly just fun to hang around when sitting at the bar.
As good as it can get for a hostel, great staff, great location and great atmosphere, the rooms were comfortable although perhaps all the beds could do with a privacy curtain not just the bottom ones ( just a recommendation ) Other than that I throughly enjoyed my stay, met some great people and would definitely come back!
Amazing! Loved it, was a great place to just stop and rest
Pana ,a very nice staff. It’s really good hostel because all warm!
