First night we were put into a room with bedbugs.

The hotel is infested with bed bugs

I’m seeing many reviews saying that there are bed bugs in the women’s dorm rooms, especially room no.14. I just booked my room not knowing this issue and am afraid to stay there. Is this an ongoing issue? (I’m very allergic to bugs.)

Great location and friendly team. Unfortunately, the hostel dorm begs we stayed in had bed bugs. However, the staff were great, provided a refund and also moved my friend and I into a fresh clean hotel room.

I was surprised by the positive reviews because my experience was very different.This hotel is incredibly dirty. They gave me bed bugs. The worst part was that they knew they had the bed bugs. The staff was incredibly rude to me. I stayed at Hotel Madrigal expecting basic hospitality. What I received was a dismissive, gaslighting experience from management that left me bitten, humiliated, and shocked by how little they truly did. After waking up with visible bed bug bites, I reported the issue — only to be told that nothing could be done for seven hours while I continued to get bitten. I cried multiple times in the lobby, in front of staff who refused to help or even acknowledge me. They then told me the manager was “on holiday” and offered no immediate resolution. The hotel claims they responded with “exceptional service” — by steaming some clothes and offering partial reimbursements, all while minimizing my pain and attempting to rewrite the timeline. They even implied I should feel grateful. The worst part is that when I received the clothes back there were still bugs in it and my skin burned. They also offered me 200 euros in writing and never paid it out. I also waited a whole week to receive my clothes and then on a Friday I came to pick up my luggage and it was gone. Their tone was condescending, their leadership absent. The so-called hostel side of this hotel is not a real hostel. It’s a budget version of a hotel with none of the community, warmth, or decency that makes hostels special. It’s just a way to cut costs while charging hotel-level prices — and when things go wrong, they hide behind that label to dodge accountability.

The dorm beds have bed bugs. Overall, it was at a nice location especially close to metro station.

The dorm room itself had a seating area which was cool. Clean and hot showers in-suite. The door handle lock stopped working when I left but I didn’t really care as I was leaving. Definitely not a very social hostel and another older guest lady got onto me for talking on the phone on one of the public couches. But it was clean and I had no experience with any bedbugs some of the other reviews mention.

bed bugs!! After staying there, my whole house was infested with bed bugs. Although the staff was very polite, they disabled the lock of my room at 11 at night because I forgot to pay the tax, even though I paid for my entire stay. It was very rude.

Il bagno in camera è confortevole, con due grandi docce, lo scalda asciugamani e persino sapone e crema mani disponibili. Camera di design e letti comodi, personale disponibile. La seconda notte purtroppo sono stata punta dalle cimici da letto. Mi è stato detto che è stato effettuato un controllo del materasso e non hanno trovato tracce di sangue e la persona che aveva dormito prima di me non si era lamentata. Fatto sta che adesso mi ritrovo con 6 punture sul collo e due sul viso. Mi è stata rimborsata una notte (senza la tassa di soggiorno) ma questo non é abbastanza per il disagio che mi crea. Lavoro a contatto con il pubblico e mi vergogno a uscire in queste condizioni. Lo trovo inaccettabile perché é un boutique hotel ristrutturato e purtroppo stamattina ho letto che ci sono stati altri casi di cimici. (Mi sono documentata apposta e 6 punture così ravvicinate sono tipiche di comici da letto). O rifiutate la camera 14 oppure la proprietà prende seri provvedimenti di disinfestazione e cambio materassi dappertutto. È un peccato davvero perché a parte questa spiacevole sorpresa mi sono trovata comunque bene.

I didn’t think about it until after I checked out, and should have said something… I was disappointed that they KNOWINGLY let me sleep in a room with bedbugs and didn’t care! I killed three. They hired a fumigation company, in advance, to fumigate the room I slept in for two nights, scheduled on the day that I was checking out. They gave the other guy a private room for three nights during his stay starting today since there will be toxic chemicals for the fumigation. They refunded my towel fee.

Great location and bathroom was clean. Beds were private however - beware of bed bugs!! My bunk mate got them on our final night. I showered up with them not long after. As it's wooden cork beds, unless they fumigate the rooms, unlikely they'll fully get rid of them. The lockers also don't lock properly and are an awkward shape so you can't fit any hiking bag or suitcase in. The location was great but the only amenities outside the room is a water station. The reception staff were kind.

Cancellation and close to no costumer support. They cancelled our reservation 4 day before our arrival because of bedbugs. The cancellation email had very little information and when we called, the person who picked up didn’t even know about anything (they thought we had cancelled our reservation). No alternative options were provided - they just left us to fend for ourselves. When we asked for help, they just looked on Google to see if there was anything (I had done that myself already, but I was hoping they would have some contingency plan in case they had to close some rooms for bedbugs - I figure that happens a lot in Paris). We were lucky that there was another place, although not ideal. I wonder what would happen if there weren’t any places in the same price range available, maybe in a busier season. Very disappointing.

BED BUGS!!! BEWARE! Madrigal would be an amazing hostel if they didn't have a bed bug problem. I told the receptionist (who was very nice and understanding) that there were bed bugs in my bed. All the beds are connected, so if one has bed bugs they all do. But when I told her, I saw that they only cleaned my bed with a vacuum, and not the others. I wasn't able to get another room, or a private room. I was told to leave, even though I had a week left. My refund also hasn't gone through yet.

The only reason why I can’t give this hostel a 10/10 review is because unfortunately I woke up with several bites, which did not look like your typical mosquito bite. I’ve experienced bed bugs before and understand that it might happen while travelling anywhere. I was moved into a private room (after some convincing) but did have to spend an entire evening at a laundry mat washing all of my clothes. Just a heads up for anyone deciding to stay in larger cities, including Paris!

I'm writing this review because I do believe I would have really enjoyed staying here. The bed was comfy, curtain was great, and showers worked nicely. I woke up in the morning and found a bedbug. The staff were very kind and I got a refund but it caused a lot of extra cleaning at the laundromat for me and finding other accomodations. They didn't have another place to put me in the hotel.

Don't let the good reviews fool you. I stayed in a shared room and was bitten by bed bugs. By reading old reviews, this looks like it's a recurring problem and management is not doing anything to solve it. Do not go there.

BED BUGS!!!! Please stay away. My bed was infested. I got bit over 100 times and had a severe allergic reaction. The management then tried to blame me for bringing them and suggested I just switch beds in the same room. Only gave me a partial refund. Stay out of room 14!!!

Avoid booking here!! I was SEVERELY bitten by bed bugs in the all girls dorm room. Room 14 Bed 5!!!! I told the front desk and they first asked if I just wanted to switch beds in the room. Three of us were together and refused to continue our stay here. They mentioned maybe we brought the bugs, however I killed two very large ones of the bed. I would not wish this on anyone. Completely traumatized.

There are bed bugs here. Please find another please without them. Pros: everyone at reception desk is very nice and helpful.

The hotel was located in a convenient location, close to the metro and other public transport. However, I was in a shared dorm of 6 and I was bitten by bed bugs. I asked the staff if there were other rooms available and there were none except for a mixed dorm room, which I declined. I asked that my bedsheets be changed and they agreed to do so. However, throughout the entire exchange the staff kept denying that there were any bed bugs (I showed them the very visible bite marks on my neck) and claimed it must have been mosquitos. I didn't want to argue knowing it was a pointless exercise. It's frustrating when the bed clearly was not as clean as it should have been and instead of taking responsibility the staff simply denied it and shifted the blame. It would have been more useful for me, and anyone else staying, if they were concerned by my letting them know and conduct a thorough inspection of the room and beds. ----------------- Further response to hotel's response: That's a downright lie that the staff accompanied me to the pharmacy. That did not occur at all. The fact that you are now lying is further cause for concern. Again, there is no use arguing if the bite was a mosquito bite or a bug bite. I know for a fact that they were not from mosquitos. A simple Google would have shown that the bites I had were exactly like bed bug bites. And I did see a small brown bug on my first night of stay. At the time I wasn't concerned by the sight of it, only after the fact that I realised I had seen a bed bug. I feel the need to make a further response so that the hotel can't simply deny responsibility by lying.

This was the best hostel I stayed in. Staff was very nice. Beds,room & bathroom was all very clean. No bed bugs! Great location, you can walk to everything and take train / metro. Bar was nice also. I would definitely go back & stay here !

We put away our bags after arrival in a cupboard that was not locked. It could be good to add a lock.

La verdad tuve una mala experiencia con la atención y solución de parte del hotel con respecto a la limpieza de las camas. La cama que me asignaron tenía chinches y a pesar de mostrar las evidencias no hicieron nada para ayudarme, lo único que hicieron fue moverme de cama pero igualmente amanecí picada por los insectos, no me dieron una mejor solución y a pesar de contactar al contacto jamás me respondieron o hicieron algo más. Sería ideal que dieran alguna compensación

Clean place. House keeping came everyday. Nice showers and toilets. 4 mixed form was okay. Hostelmate had something stolen since lockers don’t properly lock and are tiny. Luggage had to sit on floor near bed, no under bed storage. No bedbugs. Location was good near train and bus station. No kitchen. Has elevator. Staff is friendly.

I laid in bed for 30 minutes in this hostel and found 4 BED BUGS. I went down to reception to inform them and they were not able to offer me any resolution other than 'come back in the morning to get a refund'. At 11pm me and the other residents of the room checked out and searched for new accommodation in an unfamiliar city. This was not only inconvenient but unsafe. I had high hopes for this hostel but was so disappointed with the customer service - they were aware of the bed bug issue prior.

The hostel was one of the best I’ve stayed at in Paris! The only downside was BEDBUGS! I wish they told me about the outbreak a month earlier in the room. Me and a few other girls in the room would wake up every day with bites and so itchy but couldn’t find any bugs. Turns out a month prior they had the room treated for bugs. I wish they offered some sort of compensation or even a free coffee, but unfortunately not. Other than that, the hostel was really nice and the beds were comfy.

I would NOT recommend Hotel Madrigal. After 2 hours of sleep I woke up with my bed FULL OF BED BUGS. It was absolutely disgusting as there were so many huge bugs. I was awake from 2am, trying to find new accomodation at short notice while sitting at reception. I checked out of the hostel that morning along with two other women who also found bed bugs in their beds. After a couple of weeks, I received a refund for the remaining nights but am overall so disappointed in the hostel! DO NOT STAY HERE

Great location • Bedbugs • Leaky roofs The staff were very kind and the location is great, as it’s right across from the train station. However, the dorm room I was staying in had a leak above one girls bed, the bathroom roof was leaking, and two of us girls had bedbugs. Literal nightmare. Make sure to check your mattress! There’s also no common space or communal kitchen available, so it’s not really backpacker friendly. Could be great but definitely needs some work.

Me and my friend that I was traveling with stayed in a 6 bed hostel here in January. This was our final stop of our 2 week trip across Europe. The facilities seemed extremely nice at first but in the middle of the night we realized that both of our beds had bed bugs. Just by shaking the sheets I found 4 in my bed, and my friend found 3. They asked us if we could just stay in another bed in the same hostel room, but neither of us were comfortable with this since both of our beds had them. There was no other beds in the hotel available apparently, so we had to carry all of our luggage and walk to an apartment they had at 1 am. The apartment smelled like cigarettes and we weren’t sure how this was even related to the hotel. Not only was this a huge inconvenience but a major safety concern for two young female travelers. We were assured we would receive a refund, but that never happened. I would never go here again and lost all respect for this company.
