The People - Paris Belleville (ex Les Piaules)

Honestly one of the worst hostels I’ve stayed at. Staff were unwelcoming and rude, with poor check-in/bar service. Thin walls and disruptive school groups (young children aged 8-16) made it impossible to sleep as they were running/screaming, and complaints were ignored. Bathrooms were often dirty, everything costs extra, and the atmosphere was not social at all. Definitely not ideal for young solo travelers. I’ve stayed in 20+ hostels worldwide and would not stay at a People’s hostel again...

El estado del establecimiento era claramente descuidado: instalaciones envejecidas, falta de mantenimiento y una sensación constante de suciedad en varias zonas comunes. Climbing up and down the bunk bed is dangerous the bed is hard metal, and it hurts if you bump your legs. I requested a lower berth when booking, it’s ignored

all the staff have different rules like each one would say something different about where and what we were allowed to drink upstairs or in the lobby. also housekeeping either threw away or stole my bag of combs from the famous personalization place. also doesnt have a kitchen or any common area separate from the bar so you feel awkward by bringing in alcohol from outside on purpose

This hotel is at a very terrible zone as a single women traveler I feel very dangerous at night on the street. Also the hotel doesn’t have anything. with this price is ridiculous.

I spent two nights here and left wondering whether the hotel’s “service” is actually a French conceptual art piece about disappointment. I had booked one of the rooftop rooms; instead I was handed a first-floor room directly above the late night bar, which made me feel like my bed was inside said bar (minus the drinks service). Dans l’ensemble, c’est correct. Il y a cependant un point qui rend tout le reste insignifiant : la sécurisation de l’accès aux lits en hauteur est totalement inexistante. J’ai fait une chute vertigineuse sur le banc face au lit, ça aurait pu très mal finir. Le staff me répond de contacter le manager pour le signaler car eux n’arrivent pas à lui faire entendre raison. Experience very average, I wouldn't recommend it. First of all, you cannot check in before 3 pm, and if you wanna put your bag, you have to use a rip off system of cabins where you have to pay something like 1.5-2 euro per hour or 8 euros per day. The receptionists are very nice and kind. The bartenders are bartenders 2 stars. The rooms are clean but small, thats typical of parisian hostels 4 stars. I give the hotel itself a 4 star. Cant complain about that. But the young guests. And its not the hostel's fault. But its the type of young tourists who come to Paris to look for hook ups, but get pissy drunk instead and end up going home alone anyways. 2 of the roommates, who arent related or friends, came back at 5 am drunk amd noisy. Had higher hopes based on the reviews and rating, however the tiny room had visible dust, the bedding had an odor and the bathrooms were not well maintained (bad smell that didn’t leave, dirty mirrors, the showers were particularly disgusting). The staff were friendly and the hotel felt safe, however, I wouldn’t recommend.

Great stay, nice and friendly staff, clean rooms and bathrooms. Location is convenient near public transport

Its a nice clean hostel with metro stations nearby, it has a nice roof where you can meet people if you are lucky, an a bar downstairs for breakfast although it is a bit expensive.

The neighbourhood seemed a bit iffy and it was surprisingly far from the main attractions of the city (the latter is on me though for not checking). But metro stations were super close, so it was easy to get to where I wanted to go. Room was tidy, there was enough locker space, privacy in the bathroom was good but the bathroom smelled bad

I like the location and the staff! Just wish that the hostel was a bit more social

Hi!! I hope this will help anyone who Is struggling to decide whether or not to stay at this hostel. I’m a solo female traveler, and was a bit skeptical but loved it. I stayed on a 6-bed mixed room. In general, it’s such a nice hostel! Staff is super friendly, the rooms/bathrooms are clean, the beds are great (plus points for the curtains on the bed. One of the bests I’ve ever gotten.). The neighborhood Is nice as well (not fancy, it will be dirty, but it was fine, safe enough)

The room and bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and we met nice people. The rooftop is really beautiful and gives you a nice view of Montmartre. The beds were a little uncomfortable and the mattress protectors sometimes slid off during the night.

Cobran 16 euros más aparte de tu reserva al llegar y ya no lo devuelven, equivale a 350 mxn los barandales para subir a tu cama de arriba están sumamente incómodos. De vista pues no tiene nada especial, cuiden sus cosas porque me robaron los huéspedes mi maquillaje del baño

I enjoyed my stay here! The best part was probably the cozy little rooftop where you could eat your own food while having a lovely view of the sunset over the city. You can also buy somehing at the bar and bring upstairs. The common area was good, the 6-bed mixed dorm I stayed in was clean, and the shower was really good! The bathrooms could've perhaps been cleaned a little more often but overall a clean hostel. The only thing I really missed was a kitchen. Otherwise definitely worth the money!

I really appreciated the privacy curtains in my bunk, and I loved being on the top floor beside the rooftop terrace

I loved staying here! The beds are super spacious and comfy, the vibe is very friendly and respectful. Love the rooftop and the showers are great, you don’t leave feeling dirty like in other hostels! I’ll absolutely be back, thank you so much for having us!

Clean. Good location. Staff were okay. Went to drop off our bags and had to pay for lockers which was not ideal.

We needed last minute accommodation because our flight got cancelled. Beds and bathroom were clean! Breakfast and overnight staff were very sweet. The woman helping with locker reservations was rude. Overall we needed a place to sleep for one night and this did the job, but if you want a fun hostel experience (we weren’t looking for one) I’d look elsewhere :)

Pasé una estancia muy agradable en el hostal. Las personas trabajadoras del hostal fueron muy amables y crearon un ambiente acogedor y agradable. El espacio común es agradable, con sofás y mesas para poder estar tranquil@ mientras compartes zona común. C'est la deuxième fois que nous passons la soirée au bar The People Belleville. L'ambiance y est très bonne et l'intérieur ainsi que la terrasse très agréables. Nous y avons vu un concert de Jazz et une soirée DJ. Il y a de très bonnes boissons originales sans alcool très peu sucrées ! Et les croque-monsieur sont délicieux ainsi que le banana bread !!!! Merci beaucoup à toute l'équipe :)

I had a great stay at the hostel. Staff was kind and efficient, bunks were great with their own curtains, light and plug which was a creative way of making a private space, wifi was strong, breakfast and coffee was delicious, bathrooms were nicely set up, neighbourhood is very nice. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
