YHA Blue Mountains Katoomba

+ Nothing

- We stayed one night at this hotel. We had chosen the hotel because of the high review scores. Since we are around 70 years old, we clearly did not belong to the target group – in hindsight. We had reserved (confirmed via email) a room suitable for three people with two separate beds. We were given a room with one bunk bed. We had to make the bed ourselves. There was no TV in the room, no coffee sachets, no mini-fridge, no air conditioning but a fan, and a small cabinet with one small shelf. Furthermore, we had a wet floor in the bathroom due to a leaking drain, a sickly sweet smell of fried onions in the hotel, only jam as a spread, and no fresh coffee at breakfast, but instant coffee. In short, the worst hotel experience during decades of traveling around the world. We paid 162 AUD for this room. This room and this hotel were absolutely not worth the money.

- Almost got locked into the shower cubicles a couple of times & then almost locked outside in the courtyard area with the statue & fountain. Alarm going off for no reason ~ told it was a test

- Very disappointing stay and poor support from Booking.com. Room was extremely hot and stuffy. Outdoor temperature was around 34°C, but the room felt over 38°C with poor air circulation and bad smell. Only one small fan, no air conditioning, no fly screens on windows. Bunk bed sheets were not properly made. My child has asthma, and the heat and poor air quality made it difficult to breathe and sleep. This is unsafe and unacceptable. We contacted Booking.com immediately to request help or a change to a room with air conditioning. The agent said they could only send a message to the property and could do nothing else. Days later, the property replied saying cancellation was “Booking.com’s issue” and not their responsibility. Both sides kept shifting responsibility, leaving us without any solution. Apart from the location, everything else was very poor. Not recommended, especially in hot weather or for families with children or health conditions

+ I loved the location, it was right in the middle of everything and easy to get around. I made some good friends

- ​Extremely poor service and hostile staff attitude. The front desk is habitually unattended. ​During a medical emergency (heavy menstrual bleeding and locked out of my locker), the staff member was unhelpful and made me wait multiple times, actively refusing immediate assistance. ​A guest tried to help me open the lock out of desperation, accidentally damaging it. I was then forced to pay a $100 fee for the damage. ​The staff member subsequently used her position to have me banned from all YHA locations in Australia, an unfair and disappointing reaction to a difficult situation she mishandled.

+ I booked room including breakfast on Booking.com but early morning when i went there to have my breakfast they want us to pay. This is wrong and i am going to put comment on google reviews as well Thank you so much

- Old, looks like a prison, stairs, no elevator, unclean, solid heavy slamming doors, old loud fans no air conditioning, rude staff, people steal your food, people steal clothes from laundry’s Trip hazards everywhere Dirty toilets covered in iron Personal belongings stolen, police had to get involved Prison vibes for alot of money spent No fly wire on windows Mould, no ventilation Smelt like ruin

- They gave our booking away even though we had prepaid for the day. And then tried to blame booking.com even though it was their fault.

- When we check in it took a bit longer cos the receptionist asked every id and we are 7 people to check in. When we check in the room smells and the carpet there's a lot of stains it looks like blood. I dont know why they didnt fixed it and allowed people just to check in that room.. My kids was shock and didn't expect how bad the room was.

- Słabe śniadania.

+ Excellent location, big common areas, fair kitchen. Very friendly and helpful staff. Had a movie showing every night.

- It's a bit run down. We stayed at other YHAs in Australia which were much newer, this needs a bit of an upgrade.

- Carpets and inside colouring of building. Was given a room near the laundry room.Felt like a dungeon

+ Shower was amazing. Spacious room for a youth hostel. Central location. Liked the building it was in - added character to the stay.

- Top bunk mattress was a bit lumpy.

+ Great vibe. Always enjoy staying at this YHA. Close to everything in the Blue Mountains.

+ Large hostel with lots of activities. Evening movie was a nice touch. Kitchen and common room spaces were very good. The staff were super helpful and friendly.

+ We had a family room, it was nice and quite, roomy enough and shower was nice and warm. Loved the movies at night and the Table Tennis Table - had a good vibe
