At first glance the place was cramped and seemed sketchy due to the eviction notice. We chose this hotel due to the low price, so we gave them a shot. However, my roommate and I slept there for 5 hours during the evening and woke up to bites on our arms and legs. We figured it was just mosquitoes so we left to tour DC and came back to sleep during the night. Lo and behold, when we woke up the next morning there were even more bites on our arms and legs. There were 9 on my legs and 3 on my arms. My relative has had bed bugs and she told me that the bites were definitely from bed bugs. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone because I would hate myself if I knew I sent them to a bed bug infested building.

Duo Nomad is a house-style hostel near Eastern Market, with the metro close by and a lot of DC within walking distance. The setup feels compact and old-school rather than polished. Fresh pancakes in the morning are a real signature here, and there is also a kitchen, luggage storage, and a small rooftop patio. The place tends to run quiet, sometimes very quiet, so it works better as a short crash pad than a hangout base. Rooms can feel tight, especially the larger dorms, and the building shows its age in the furniture and layout. Some rooms have AC, but a few window units were off and the air could get stuffy. Bathrooms and showers are usually clean, though the ratio can feel thin at busy times. Service swings between warm and awkward. Some people working there are friendly, helpful, and strict about house rules and check-in procedure. At the same time, there are clear signs that the mood can turn harsh or overly controlled. If you want a simple stay with a strong location, easy transit, and pancakes that show up every morning, it can work well. If you want space, a lively common area, or a loose social scene, this is probably not the fit.
