   Terrible hostel don't stay here. Saw a regular staying here get kicked out of club area for slapping a girl's ass and let back in. One of the guy's staying in my mate's room got into her bed in the middle of the night and put his arm round her. Got all of her stuff out the room and told reception. They put her into two different rooms that were "female only' that had more men in then until she gave in and just slept in one. They gave her a private room next day but doesn't make up for it wtf

   I booked this hostel as thought it would be social but complete opposite experience. Girl in the room was throwing up all night in our shared toilet and on my last night I was woken up to security dragging a stranger out the room. Also the pool is open to the public so old pervy men watching girls all day. Worst vibes ever.

   I had a very disappointing experience at this venue. I was kicked out simply for dancing on a stage, despite there being no signage anywhere indicating that this was not allowed. By definition, a stage is a performance space, and it was being used in exactly that way — for dancing. What was most concerning, however, was the way I was treated while being removed. A large security staff member grabbed and squeezed my arm and yanked me so aggressively that it left me shocked and uncomfortable. This level of physical force was completely unnecessary and unacceptable. Clear communication, signage, and respectful treatment of patrons would go a long way in preventing situations like this. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite.

   Terrible experience — I was violently thrown to the ground without reason. Security violently threw me to the floor, claiming I was “too drunk,” when in fact I was completely conscious, calm, and respectful. I had only had a couple of drinks — far less than many others around me. I wasn’t causing any trouble at all. I tried to explain that I was alone in the city and didn’t know anyone, hoping for at least a bit of understanding or empathy. Instead, I was treated with aggression, humiliation, and zero respect. I strongly believe I was targeted unfairly, possibly due to racism. I was singled out for no valid reason, while others were left alone. This behavior is absolutely unacceptable. I felt unsafe and deeply disrespected. This place is not safe, especially for solo travelers or people of different backgrounds. I would never recommend it.

   Liked the atmosphere and the overall layout of the property , we were made to feel uncomfortable when 2 male security entered our room at 12:30 in the evening 1 of them storming through when I was trying to find my room key to show them , we were in a room of 4 girls and were all together so we didn’t all have our keys with us constantly . I went to bed worried they’d come back, the next morning 3 cleaners came in very noisily whilst we slept and awoke us all. Off putting odour from drains

   _Warning: Avoid this place!_ I witnessed a horrific incident at the Backpack Hotel where a security guard physically assaulted a guest without provocation, breaking his phone in the process. The guard's aggression was unbridled, and the hotel's handling of the situation was appalling. I was present when the guard refused entry to the guest, who politely asked for an explanation. Instead of providing a reasonable response, the guard became belligerent and violent. The bar lack of concern for guest safety and well-being is staggering. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go this place it is no the first time The security guards are a menace, and the hotel's management seems to condone their behavior. I will never set foot in this establishment again, and I advise others to do the same. Rating: 0/5 stars (if I could give it a -5, I would)

   I recently stayed at the Backpack Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was marred by the hotel's overly aggressive security guards. I witnessed them being physically and verbally abusive to guests, and even saw them hit someone. The guards seem to be more focused on intimidating guests than ensuring their safety. While the hotel itself is decent, the hostile behavior of the security team creates a toxic and uncomfortable environment. I would advise travelers to exercise caution and consider alternative accommodations that prioritize guest well-being and safety.

   Cockroaches in cupboards. Guests washing was stolen from the laundry room which was supposed to be locked from 10 pm. Security targeted and questioned females on alcohol consumption including how many drinks and what venues attended , but not with male companions. Security denied access to a friend who was apparently too drunk and then confiscated her ID off her, I then offered to collect her passport as proof that it was hers. They then said they were sending it to be checked- now has no ID.

    The practices at this hostel disgust me and I can’t believe they are condoned. We attended the ‘frat party’ night which involved jelly wrestling, which we assumed would be some lighthearted fun. Instead it started at midnight, after two happy hours, with the young girls involved clearly very intoxicated and unable to give true consent to what happened. The actual event involved these girls getting their hair pulled, scratched and bikinis completely ripped off in front of a massive crowd, with the 40+ male commentator making remarks such as ‘she was asking for it’ and ‘you’re obviously used to having your legs open’. When I brought this up saying they can’t consent to being incidentally exposed to a massive group I was laughed at and told ‘of course they’re drunk, it’s a night club’ which is the entire point of the issue I’m raising. On top of this, as we were walking out my friend asked the bouncer a question and he then proceeded to slam him to the ground and kneel on his neck, resulting in multiple injuries to his neck, chin and chest. When asked if we could review the cctv to prove the assault happened we were laughed at and told absolutely not. We are now liaising with the police to get this matter sorted and the bouncer fired but shocking that Gilligan’s took no action and didn’t care about an unwarranted assault on their property. I would never stay here again due to the practices within the hostel and would hope that in writing this these will be reviewed and people may reconsider supporting this business in the future.

    WOMEN DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOUR A SOLO TRAVELER… or maybe stay in a female only dorm but I was woken up at 3 am by the security guard at this hostel ! He shook me awake claiming I was in the wrong room/bed when I clearly had my check in paper work. I emailed the owner (as advised my manager on duty) and heard nothing back. It was scary and no women should be touched by a 40 year old looking man !! I wasn’t going to write this but since the owner clearly doesn’t care about his customers I must.

    DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR EXPERIENCED BY SECURITY PERSONNEL!!! Don't waste your time and ruin your night wasting your time going here. Absolutely appalling behaviour from Gilligan's security staff, refused entry, accused of being intoxicated. Requested clarification and review of CCTV footage for verification of the accusations, was directed by the security to speak with the reception staff to complete a complaint form. When discussing with the reception staff, the older female security personnel returned and continued to escalate and provoke the situation, she then proceeded to forcefully remove me which was unnecessary, I took photos and videos for my own evidence to support this behaviour I had to experience she then communicated inappropriate comments such as" you want my photo because you are into me etc etc" This is the second instance I have experienced this behaviour for no reason whatsoever, also emailed the venue for clarification from upper management with no response to date. Upon reading other people's Google reviews it seems to be an ongoing issue that the security personnel seem to make false accusations, treat people unfairly and forcefully which Gilligan's Management clearly seem to allow. Very disappointing to say the least!

    Unfortunately I had a disconcerting encounter with the security staff. Without any apparent reason, they handled our entry in a physically aggressive manner, leaving us feeling unsafe rather than secure. The lack of professionalism and failure to provide a reasonable explanation for their actions raised serious concerns. I hope the management addresses this issue promptly to ensure a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.

    Location is about the only good thing this place has. Our room was full of coaches and last night, security BARGED into our room, scaring all the girls, because according to them, “men were seen coming into our room with outside alcohol.” Not a single man came into our room of girls. NONE. When prompted to pull up the security footage and they’ll clearly see they were mistaken and confused our room, they dismissed it he incident and were so unbothered. Unhelpful and rude staff. Avoid this place.
