Athens Hawks Hostel

In dit hostel zitten bedwantsen. Ik verbleef in kamer 309. Kijk hiermee uit! Ook zit het echt in een heel vage wijk waar ik mij in mijn eentje niet veilig zou voelen. Super leuk hostel verder met een leuke longe en pooltafel. Ook is er een rooftop bar! De lage rating komt echt vooral door de bedwantsen want het was wel een super leuk hostel.

Most important part of the review is the bedbugs… disgusting.. horrible problem to get rid of, especially if you take them home. other then that the rooms were fine. luckily i had a room (10p) with curtains, but other rooms didn’t? i find that a bit weird because you have no privacy. the rooftop bar is great tho! some bartenders friendlier then others, but overall enjoyed it (and the prices). the common room is also nice. where the hostel is located is very bad tho. it is in omonia and as a woman i would not go out alone in the dark. we were with a group of 30, so for this stay it didn’t bother me, but i felt rather unsafe. (the fact my bag got stolen also doesnt help lmao) overall the stay was really nice, the two stars is really because of the bedbugs!!! that cannot go unnoticed..

Update one month later: no other people were infested. We were likely patient zero 😕 *very likely Bed bugs in room 309* We stayed here with a group. I'm the second person of the 10 person room to spot a bed bug egg back home. I found an adult, unfed bedbug somewhere else in Athens (olympic stadium) before. Checked the bag and beds and nothing was found then. People were talking about bed bug bites but couldn't fully confirm it (update: I've been bitten myself apparently). We had 4 rooms. There are no spottings in any other room yet. Only 309 with the furthest bunk bed from the door. Update: it appears to be only us two, tho we cannot fully confirm for another week at least. The hostel has been informed. For reference, the grain on the foto is 1mm, but google won't let me post with a tape measure. I've send the picture to a bug extermination company to double check, but it is likely to be one. Will update the review once they reply.

i spent one night i would recommend for the scenery of the beach club and that every 2 days there is a hige party so it's really fun to be there. but i won't recommend this place caus my bed was infested by bed bugs it destroyed the rest of my trip caus i realised this after i left

Good hostel, but I catched bed bugs after spending 2 nights there and realised it just now, when I am in my new appartment (i am doing an erasmus in Athens)...

In a pretty sketchy area. There were bed bugs. However I paid less than $15 per night.

Hostel seemed very nice, decent rooftop bar, ac, nice bathrooms. Unfortunately, I left the place with terrible bedbug bites all over my legs, same happened to two other persons from my group.

The place is dirty. Location is sketchy. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Find other places to stay in Athens. The hostel management blames the bed bug infestation to a widespread issues around the area.

First off - If you are a solo female traveler DO NOT STAY HERE. This hostel is located in THE worst part of the city. I was in Mexico solo traveling and this feels MUCH much worse. The hostel itself is nice enough and I've solo traveled quite a few places with confidence but I don't have sheer stupidity or a death wish. I would not be caught dead walking by myself past dark by this hostel. Which made seeing Athens extremely limited- I had anxiety to make sure I was back before dark! Also I only chose this hostel because in photos there are privacy curtains- Well there are none! Looking into old reviews seems like they haven't had any for months! I was also paranoid for bed bugs because MANY old reviews from 2/3 months ago heavily mentioned them. I asked for a refund-none given. I decided to just leave early and forfeit what I paid. I chose a hostel with a better location.

Terrible hostel, it’s close enough to the Acropolis but the zone where it is located it’s so dark and insecure and people staring at you when you cross. In my room (private room btw) there was bed bugs that took me so long to get rid off after my trip to Athens. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel at all

we stayed for 3 nights for a conference and it was the worst experience ever. they have BED BUGS! and they don’t even clean the rooms and mattresses! even the key for the room is an issue. they give it for free for the first person checks in but ITS A HOSTEL! people don’t know each other! so if you are the 2nd stranger in that room you get a key for €10 with deposit. also the key they give DOESN’T EVEN WORK. and to go down from 7th floor all the way to the base floor takes an elevator and waiting for the elevator takes at least 15 mins. there are 8 floors and there’s only one elevator and it can only take 4 people. even if i go down to change the key the 2nd key they gave DIDN’T WORK AGAIN. I HAD TO GO DOWN FOR THE 3RD TIME. AND OH DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE DISGUSTING BREAKFAST! the most disgusting tomatoes i’ve ever eaten in my life!! and the street it’s located… it’s close to the city centre, yes. but if the city centre is in Pakistan or in India, then yes. they look at you as if they’ve never seen a woman before and it’s really uncomfortable to even to be looked at by them. AND my friend forgot her jacket in the room a bit after checkout but we were still gonna be in the hostel’s common area after checkout anyways and when she got back in to the room to get it she couldn’t find it. she asked the people working here about it and they literally shrugged their shoulders. they said that the cleaning ladies are not here today so we don’t know where they put it. them we asked for the camera footage and the guy said he doesn’t have any access to that. then find us a person who has? they literally said “I don’t know”? we know that you don’t know, we don’t know either. how about you try to help us ‘know’? ugh the place was so annoying.

BED BUGS!!! Verder prima hotel.

Excellent hostel, would have gave 4 star if they didn't have BEDBUGS. I was covered in bites and found them in many rooms. Also my friends were covered in bites. I left early but luckily the hostel handled it very good and gave me refund and washed all my stuff.

Opzich leuk hostel, met leuke rooftopbar. Helaas wel slecht einde van de reis: 🚨bedwantsen🚨.

Bed bug warning!!! After I went there I had bed bug bites all over my body. The worst was not even the allergic reaction i had to these bites, which costs me a lot of medication. It is that my apartment is also infected by these creatures which will cost me around 300-500€ depending how bad the infestation is. Be wise, choose a better hostel, without bed bugs.

Ich war für 1 Woche in dem Hostel. Die Zimmer waren gut und sehr leise. Eigentlich hat es mir in dem Hostel sehr gut gefallen. Was ich jedoch erst am Schluss mitbekommen habe - in meinem Bett waren Bettwanzen! Ich empfehle Athens Hawks nicht weiter!

Service is 10/10 very nice staff, really cool people. Rooftop bar is really fun great for socializing. Location is not the greatest so be mindful if you’re not used to dodgy areas and men standing around outside catcalling/staring. It’s harmless but it’s close to Omonia square and other places that you could just walk to. Rooms are clean except for the horrible bed bug problem. This is probably the one thing that really put me off about the whole experience. They’ll “fumigate” the room and change your mattress but it’s still there. I was getting bit and was literally scared to even get back into bed. Didn’t have a door handle on our bathroom for a week and a half of my stay. ACs aren’t the greatest just be mindful of these things

Great location and clean looking rooms however there is a major BED BUG problem. 3 people in our room found bugs and got bitten constant. The staff responded by changing the bed sheets and saying it was solved but the bugs were back the next day, they refuse to properly fumigate the room because they will lose money so they just let people sleep in bug infested beds. We stayed up multiple nights begging to change rooms and being terrified to go in our beds, but the worker just seemed annoyed at us as if it was our fault there was an infestation. Find a more responsible hostel that will actually address these problems.

One of the more ghetto streets I’ve ever been on and there were bed bugs in my room. I didn’t even stay, I moved hostels to a nicer and clear setup.

Hostel was dirty and there was bed bugs in the room. The street is very ghetto and doesn’t feel safe at night. I didn’t even stay the night as I didn’t want to risk bed bugs into my luggage, I booked another room down town

My hostel room experience was decent but I heard lots of bed bug stories whilst I was staying. Communal areas were really nice however the location of this hostel put me off going back, the area felt very unsafe. There was a great view from the rooftop bar though

Bed Bugs: Do not stay here. We had bed bugs in our female dorm and the hostel was not helpful at all. They barely cleaned the room, when the room was “under maintenance” because multiple people complained about the issue they didn’t even change the bed sheets. The way that the hostel handled this issue is extremely bad and unprofessional. Most of my clothes are now ruined because I had to deep clean them after staying here.

The Hawks was fantastic! about 10-20min walk from everything. The facilities were clean and the staff helpful, knowledgeable, and nice. Shout out to Stella for being the best! Everything was clean and tidy which i was very happy for since some of the other hostels were having bed bug issues. The rooftop bar is popping almost every night and is always a good place to start.

ATTENTION BED BUGS -DO NOT GO HERE worst hostel ever. the bed sheets were washed but still dirty. Worst thing they have bed bugs! do not go here unless you want bites from them! never again.

Really nice people really nice vibe few cons are it’s in a bit of a dodgy area they make you wear a wristband for security but it’s a bit scary cause it announce you’re a tourist I also got bedbugs on my last night I would stay there again though because it’s a super nice place

It's a well built hostel but the location is not so pleasant although I didn't actually feel unsafe, it's just a rural area with mostly non-greek residents. Not dirty but not the cleanest, I found bedbugs in my bed and the staff were quick to move me. The common area is huge with a pool table, and the rooftop bar is super cool. If you're fine with the downsides of the hostel, go for it.

Location is good but a bit in the slums… room was nice and modern with good facilities! The rooftop bar was great! Staff were different levels of friendliness bur mostly nice. However my bed had bed bugs 🙁

Attention punaises de lit !!!!! Nous étions dans la chambre 706, on y a passé 2 nuit et le jour du départ je me retrouve avec des boutons sur le bras, les mains et encore plus sur le visage. Le quartier craint aussi, c’est sale, ça sent mauvais et on ne se sent pas en sécurité. Les photos sont vendeuses mais la réalité est autre

The hostel has an excellent structure and a lively rooftop. But it's not the best place if you need to use the common area to work during the day, as the music is very loud (which I think is unnecessary). I had an online meeting and politely asked to turn the volume down for a few minutes and got a super rude response from an employee, who I later found out to be the owner's son. He also insulted a roommate at another time. Also, I was bitten by bed bugs in two different rooms, but I know that this is a complicated problem to control and that the hostel is taking care of it.

I don’t have many expectations for hostels. One of the only ones is, that there are no bedbugs. But me and my friend both have them now after staying 5 days in the hostel and besides home we only have been there. Also you have to pay for the pool table and the bar is ridiculously expensive for a hostel bar. Everything else was not more than ok. People were very friendly though!

BED BUGS !! The hostel itself was great - clean modern bathrooms, a nice communal area and a great fun rooftop bar. Even the location was not too bad. However, we had bed bugs, got bitten terribly and the hostel did not deal with it well. They were too ‘busy’ to wash all our clothes and refused to offer financial compensation.

I went here with a group of friends. The people are nice, neighbourhood not so much. Not safe to walk alone, got shouted at a lot. In our room there were also bedbugs. Not so great. But the room itself was very nice with comfortable showers

It was a wrong decision to book a room for me and my friend here. 1- Location: close to the city center but in the middle of a rural markt with drug dealers, no one attacked us but it was scary when they get close and want to you to purschase marihuana or Heroine ! They get really really close. In your face. 2- The night is horrible to sleep without earplugs! Police sirens, people fighting, cars honking and of course one night someone broke a car window and alarm went off ! 3- Staff ok. 4- Room clean but last day I found traces of BED BUGS (see pictures) ! I was terrified. There's a smell of moist when u get first to the room. Lovely balcon. Room size and bathroom really ok.
