Casa Soluna

The hostel isn’t too far from the center, which is nice. Some of the facilities have been updated, other things need updating/replaced like the linoleum flooring. The rooms get very warm and stuffy since there’s no windows or ventilation. There were other people when I went, since with was Dia de Muertos, but there’s still no social atmosphere. Kind of an odd place, but didn’t feel unsafe or unclean.

pros - all women of course - free potable water - shower soap - few block away from main area - private locker in room with key - privacy curtain - towel provided - air conditioning in room cons - thin window next to headboard so very loud outside traffic - dogs barking (which is mentioned, but it’s real and loud) - there’s no window to open for fresh air, it’s a whole frosted glass door you have to open. there is a tiny balcony big enough for 2 people though -tiny bugs in bathroo...

My stay here was a pleasant surprise! Although the bedrooms are a little outdated the staff were responsive, they have a hair dryer, free water/cereal, a good kitchen, full tv room, and even provided make up remover for our day of the dead make up. Good location and enjoyed my stay during día de los muertos

SoLuna hostel is very nearby city centre Zocalo; easy accessible to good restaurants and souvenir shops. And the owner Jethro is very friendly, helpful and respectful. He takes good care of the guests and the hostel. The room has enough space and the shower&toilets are spacious too. I’ll definitely come back to SoLuna when I visit Oaxaca again. Highly recommended :)
