the facilities itself feels like a jail cell with minimum privacy and old interiors. they have lots of events hosted, but in my opinion it does not justify the place being so far from town and dirty bathrooms. their bbq event was just a small hamburger, and we had to go into town for more food. they provide a free bus pass, but it's just to get into the city. walls very thin, and I believe they get good reviews due to incentives like free drinks to post a good review. Go to samsum banff instead.
The location is good but the actual hostel is dirty and the rooms are very dated / bad
The common areas were okay, but the dorm was right by the machine room and very noisy. Guests were loud and kept slamming the door. Around midnight, a girl claimed a bed and kicked out the person sleeping there. A staff member then came to fix it, making even more noise. For the price, it was not worth it—a very hard night to sleep.
Overall the place has nice common spaces but really old, hot and crowded rooms. The storage area for things was really dirty and staff not very well trained in basic hospitality and to receive people like guests. I think had it cost 30 or 40 it would have felt like ok sure this is what you get but for 90 dollars (to share a room with 5 people) I hoped for a little better. Banff is an incredible place, unfortunately I think the saturation of people lowers the demand for quality service.
Room size was tiny, beds super uncomfortable and no privacy curtains or toilets in room
Beautiful hostel with beautiful views, a bit away from town but they provide free bus passes during your stay. All showers are shared even if you have a room with an en suite. Mattresses are not comfortable and make a lot of noise so can be hard to have a good night sleep. There's a cafe where they serve breakfast (expect to spend an extra $15-$20 per day per person). Alternatively they have a fully equipped kitchen in the basement. Overall quite expensive for a hostel even in spenny Banff...
crazy expensive
Location was good and staff were friendly however found the facilities to be over priced and dirty.
Clean rooms, nice showers, good location. Staff could have been more helpful with recommendations.

Haven’t stayed in a hostel for a while so I was a bit nervous. But I felt very welcomed from the start and managed to meet some nice girls in my room. Loved the outside areas as they have nice views and appreciated the bar and cafe.
The hostel had a well equipped kitchen, some communal supplies, several shared spaces, and indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant food was great quality for a decent price. Group activities were available, we went on a hike which ended up being cut short due to unforeseen circumstances so the staff offered us a free drinks voucher which was nice. However, we were really disappointed when the pub crawl was cancelled with no notice. Overall it was a very nice hostel, albeit a bit out of town
This was an awesome hostel! It was clean, the beds were comfy, great location, and overall great experience! I will definitely be staying again.
Awesome hostel, perfect for solo travelers to meet people with all of their bar events! Highly recommend and can't wait to see this place in Summer!
Beautiful location, building, and views. Men's washroom on the lower level was not in the best condition. Wasn't bad enough to tell staff, but someone had cut their hair in the washroom and left all the cuttings in a towel that spilled around the floor. It was there when I brushed my teeth before bed, and still there in the morning when I got ready to check out.
This hostel was brilliant! Couldn't reccomend it more - super friendly staff, and it had everything you needed
Great hostel. Very organized. Had microspikes and bear spray available to borrow. Saw hikes you could join but I didn’t join any. Did one activity in the evening and it was fun! All the food I had at the restaurant was yummy. Facilities clean and everything very organized. Easy parking.
Great!! Another Hostel from the Hi Canada group that impressed me. A 6 star for the cleanliness, the washroom is always clean and tidy. And I loved that they give a free bus pass during your stay, bus stop is just a few steps away from the hostel.
Nice hostel in a scenic location
This was THE BEST hostel: Best people Best location Best transportation Best everything My advice? BOOK IT
The Hi Banff Alpine Centre was very good value for the money. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a private room that was very comfortable. I will stay there again.
It was my first hostel experience and it was amazing
Cozy hostel with great common areas. Rooms and showers are clean, staff is really nice. It was a little annoying that our kitchen was blocked by a big group.
The old bathrooms were cold....save water crank up the heat in the bathroom. the air vents on top floor was super loud all night. Friends stayed in the new section and paid a similar price fir a private room but got unsuite, heating and TV. The pub was great but cold. Food in café was good and staff helpful and friendly.
if I could give this overall rating a 20, I would. It was better than the majority of 3/4 star hotels I've stayed okay. everyone is super welcome and I even picked up a slight Aussie accent from the amount of them there. the storm cellar is a must go to with their events each night. and deffo rock out at jam night. you're a short bus ride from town and there's a great hike nearly on the doorstep for tunnel mountain.
This was a wonderful place to stay! They provide shower towels, lend out ice cleats and bear spray, and give free bus passes for your stay. The location is around a 30 min walk from downtown Banff or a 5 min bus ride with the bus stop being right across the street. Personally, I really enjoyed the location of the hostel as it gave a cozy lodge/cabin vibe just outside of the busiest and most touristy parts of town. Not to mention there’s a bar on site and lots of fun weekly activities planned :...
good for a few nights, but far from banff unfortunately
We greatly appreciated the free and easy upgrade to a different room when there was an unexpected issue. Great, friendly staff. Convenient having the free bus pass the hostel provided, and it was a quick, easy bus ride into the main downtown area of Banff, and connections to other bus routes. There were a few nights where the kitchen amenity was inaccessible due to the large amount of people using the kitchen. Room for improvement in cleanliness, but all in all, a great place to stay.
