Staff was cool, but management does not care about safety. There was a scary situation involving an unpredictable drunk guy in the mixed dorms. Management was going to let him sleep it off and deal with it in the morning. Several others besides myself were uncomfortable, but there was little to no support in the matter, and I felt very dismissed. I ended up having to call the police myself. Very disappointing.
Garbage next to the door and a dingy old staircase welcomes you. Lockers are high school size. Guests kept belongings on the floor. Fans used to cool down a stuffy and stinky room. No staff in the morning to assist with questions. Couch in lounge had busted springs. Photos on website are very deceiving. Place is advertise as alternative but it’s really only cheap. In emails, one staff member was unhelpful and condescending. Stayed in hostels all over the world and this was the worst!
Compared to many other hostels I didn’t like this one at all. Yes, it has an amazing location but the beds are extremely uncomfortable and the place is very dirty. I would not stay here again

Pretty old building, the beds are too close each other so if someone moves your bed will move, the room need it a lot of ventilation because the smell stays for a long time, also someone in the staff smells sooo badly that was uncomfortable and disgusting, the location was the only good of this place
Clean and friendly. Good location for old Montreal and you can get to the metro in 10 mins to access other areas of Montreal. But I was disappointed by the bathrooms - only two toilets and two showers between 4 dorms on the top floor. Got up at 6.30 to wash my hair. And no lockers in the room - there was a swimming pool style one provided in the corridor, which was totally useless for storing luggage and no one used them, so all the bags were in the room, making it very crowded.
The common space is nice and the staff are friendly however, our room was extremely hot with no air-conditioning, we thought we were getting a room with three beds, but actually only got two beds, the lock on the door didn’t inspire confidence either.
It would be very different if they open the windows and let the fresh air come in.
O hostel é muito bem localizado mas as camas nao tem luz nem tomada individual e o quarto é um pouco quente mesmo numa noite mais fria. Tem bastante escada, caso voce tenha bagagem pesada ou problema de mobilidade, pode ser trabalhoso subir até o quarto.
The hostel is very well located but the beds do not have light or individual towels and the room is a little warm even on a cold night.There are enough stairs, if you have heavy luggage or mobility problems, it can be laborious to climb up to the room.

I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated my stay at the alternative hostel. I hope to be able to return soon. The hostel was clearly a thoughtfully constructed space, with a wonderful common area with plenty of space and a warm atmosphere, a fantastically stocked kitchen with all the equipment you could possibly need, a spatious, clean working area, a clean fridge with plenty of space, and the basic cooking necessities. Comfortable sleeping area, very friendly staff, overall a wonderful experience.

Super belle auberge, très bien située au coeur du centre historique de Montréal. Une salle commune charmante avec tout ce qui faut pour cuisiner. Les lits étaient très confortables. Le personnel a su répondre à mes questions sur les meilleurs choses à faire dans le coin si on peu de temps pour visiter. je recommande fortement, j'y retournerai à coup sûr!
Super nice hostel, very well located in the heart of the historic center of Montreal. a charming common room with everything needed for cooking. the beds were very comfortable. the staff was able to answer my questions about the best things to do in the area if we have little time to visit. i highly recommend, i will definitely return!
J'ai bien aimé mon séjour. Auberge est très bien située dans le Vieux-Montréal. Elle avait été récemment rénovée. L'espace central avec cuisine, réception et salon est chaleureux et propice aux belles rencontres.

Overall the location was incredible and the building itself and the lobby was very nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. A bit warm on just the third floor during the summer; I know there was an AC unit but some of the girls in the room wanted it off because the noise. I did see a single mouse in the kitchen during the night but this is an older building that lots of people frequent so it's not that shocking. Despite this, I think I would still stay here again, albeit when it's a bit cooler out.
Clean and enjoyable stay, especially if you want to stay central to the events in the city and relatively close to transit. The only tricky part may be parking if that is part of your trip.
Overall, great hostel for the price if you’re a sound sleeper. The bunk beds are extremely wobbly and many aren’t anchored to any walls so you feel every toss and turn of the other person in the bed. The bedding is pretty comfortable but in the summer months, the small ac unit/fan makes it hard to sleep especially if you run hot. Showers are a little smelly/dirty but not bad. Staff is nice!
Second time staying here; it has become my favorite stay in Montreal. An excellent location.

It’s a wonderful atmosphere here! Staff is very friendly, lots to do in the common area, clean environment, full kitchen, chargers in the beds, extra blankets for cold nights, and even bathrooms with showers in the same room. (Very underrated aspect to hostel stays)
