Why the low rating? Bed bugs. The location is amazing, the food is wonderful and the hostel activities are great. However, the rooms are dirty and my entire travel group emerged with bed bug bites all over us. We stayed here 2 nights, and the bug bites appeared after night 1, and got worse after night 2.

1. Locations: okay There’s bus stop nearby, so it’s convenient for you to reach and leave. The beautiful Hawkins lookout is near, despite it’s 30 minutes walking. 2. Kitchen: There’s no bowls in the kitchen. There’s only plates and cups in the kitchen. So when I cooked instant noodles, I needed to eat with pot. And they are easily running short of forks. But fridge is okay, because people don’t stay here long, so even though it’s occupied, but still space for you. But for there’s no indoor eating area near kitchen. Well, you can go to the bar area, but it’s 50m away. 3. Room: there’s NO lockers in the room. And the door is not really locked when you leave. It seems fancy to stay in their cabin rooms, but actually it’s just appearance. There’s no lockers in the room, so I need to try to find other ways to protect my laptop. And I got bites. I guess it’s bedbugs. 4. Bathroom: you need to walk 30-40m to the bathroom. And there’s sand on the way. So your foot will get dirty again after shower. The quality of toilet and bathroom is not very clean. It’s like the bathroom in public swimming pools. But the one that cleans less often. 5. Other: (1) reception closes at 5pm. I think it’s too early, if you want to call them through the phone. (2) if you use Telstra, the Wi-Fi in hostel is the only place you can get internet. But it’s weak sometimes. (3) there’s no suitable place with tables for you to use a charging laptop. There’s tables, but you can’t find places to charge. (4) the price of laundry is 6 dollars, and you need to pay by card. And the dryer is 5 dollars. 6. Summary: For me, the ranking of this hostel is 3 stars. It’s wide, and with beach nearby. The quality is endurable. But I felt upset after getting bitten by the bedbugs. That’s why I put 2 stars.

This place is really impressive at first, great beach, nice pool, palm trees and big bar. however, the food the absolute worst food I've EVER eaten in australia. pretty sure the fish was from coles, the nachos were repulsive; all melted into one solid block and cold. the drinks had no alcohol in them, showers were sometimes cold, super loud music from early. 6 bed dorm was ok on bedbug proof mattresses and some space for bags. the full moon party was diabolical, don't bother with it. more security guards than a prison watching your every move, once again no alcohol in the 'cocktails' and we were not allowed to leave before 12. unless you know a bunch of people here, don't bother. they attempted to force the fun with some games. they also have NO LUGGAGE storage around the full moon time so we had to drag our bags around with us which was horrible. the receptionist was most unhelpful and suggested we get the ferry to townsville, leave our bags in a hostel there and get the ferry back. absolutely useless!
