Bostel Rancho Viejo

BEDBUGS!! Por favor evítate esta miseria de los chinches y sáltate este hostal. Había ya alguna que otra reseña sobre el problema que debí de haber escuchado. Me picaron en mi primera noche en el cuello, pero no estaba seguro de lo que era, y ahora 10 días después se ve que se han venido de viaje conmigo. Estuve en el cuarto “Derrumbes”, en la cama 1, y una compañera en el mismo cuarto también se fue con chinches. No estoy seguro de lo que está haciendo el hostal para solucionar el problema que tiene, lo único que pude oler es algún tipo de pesticida que parece que ponen cada día, que no parece ser suficiente. Ojalá se tomen el problema en serio y lo solucionen.

Bostel is far away from the town, and that's what makes it so magical. It's the most beautiful hostel I've ever stayed in, and there are a few outdoor spaces to enjoy the clouds and forest (including two hammocks near the restaurant). The restaurant on site is expensive, but worth it! If you want cheaper food options, a mototaxi into town is only 20 pesos. Staff are brilliant - so warm and helpful. I recommend doing a temazcal in town the night you arrive; book ahead. Oh - and no bedbugs!

I really enjoyed my week long stay here.Loved the convenience of the restaurant and food shop on site. The fireplace in the common area was always freshly stocked with firewood. You can get your laundry done there as well. Everything you need is there. Plus the mirador overlooking the mountains about 5 minutes walking distance is breathtaking. However, both my friend I, plus another mate experienced bedbugs in our beds throughout our stay. I really hope something is done about it soon.

Beautiful hostel, big windows, forest around, the restaurant nearby is very good too. When I arrived it felt like a dream, but then, I found a bedbug next to my pillow. The hostel didn’t want to pay me back my stay. I think it’s not correct. The staff : some are nice, some aren’t. Mixed feelings because the location and architecture of the hostel are crazy good

I really liked the hostel, but found a 2 bed bugs in my bed. Social was amazing. The views were amazing and the hostel itself was so cute and relaxing.

Ich mir wurde ein Bett zugeteilt, bei dem das Personal wusste, dass es Bettwanzen (Bedbugs!) hat! Die Person vor mir wurde im Gesicht in der Nacht vor meiner Ankunft gebissen und musste sogar zum Arzt deswegen! Diese wechselte dann das Bett und ich bekam nichtswissend ihr Bett! Unverantwortlich und unprofessionell! In meiner ersten Nacht wurde ich dann glücklicherweise nicht gebissen, aber eine andere Person in meinem Zimmer! Darauf hin musste ich in 3 Nächten 3 mal Bett tauschen. In einer Nacht mit einer fremden Person ein Bett teilen… Und alle meine Sachen waschen! Nachdem ich nach einer Rückvergütung (Refund) gefragt habe, wurde mir versprochen, dass sich der Manager bei mir meldet. Die Person hat sich nie bei mir gemeldet und sich schön aus der Verantwortung gezogen! Für diesen Preis erwartet man sich mehr Professionalität!

Very bad experience. Got bed bugs here. When filing a complaint my reservation got canceled, whilst I stayed. Very shady. I have pictures showing the bites, they “inspected” the bed but couldn’t find anything. No suitable handling of this incident. Need to have medical proof. They mentioned they never had something like this, whilst later I read in the reviews there have been cases before. More lies, don’t feel like wasting any other words words.

ACHTUNG! Bettwanzen(Bedbugs!) Sehr schönes Hostel, aber keine gute Erfahrung. Mir wurde ein Bett zugeteilt, wo das Personal schon wusste, dass in diesem Bett Betzanzen sind! Unverantwortlich! Die Person, welche vor mir darin schlief musste einen Arzt aufsuchen, da ihr Gesicht extrem angeschwollen war! Ich wurde nicht gebissen, aber die Person neben mir im gleichen Zimmer! Alles waschen, 3 mal Bett getauscht in 3 Nächten! Wollte mit dem Manager sprechen, no reply, no apology, no refund, improve!

Ok hostel! Aestethics 10/10, but not that social. Also the hostel gave me bedbugs :((

I came here thinking it was one of the only hostels in san jose, hence i paid the insane price they asked for. Everything seemed really nice on the surface but theres obviously a lot of backdrop problems. Receptionists not really knowing or lying about things not working. A place to be for young rich westeners to have a comfortable space to trip. Fair enough, however not my style of travelling. Worst thing was that there was bedbugs in my bed. After arguing with them i managed to get my money back for two nights. Also after a while of arguing they agreed to put my stuff in the dryer to kill off any potential bug hitchhikers. During my stay it was also extremely cold, the hostel is a house with barely any insulation and absolutely no heating except for a small fireplace in the first floor. I usually never leave reviews but this time i had a specifially frusterating time. A lot of potential however. Beautiful viewpoints

The property is really nice on the surface and the location and views were highlights. The staff were very friendly and you can tell they have put a lot of thought into making the property a scenic place to stayz HOWEVER, one of our party woke up with severe bed bug bites. This definitely soured the mood a little. On top of that, the place was just a bit grimey on closer inspection.
