Horrible experience — avoid this place. The staff became aggressively angry when we raised concerns about bed bugs in all three of our rooms. They became rude and defensive. Instead of helping, they denied everything and made us feel unsafe. In addition, they charged us 36% more than the original booking on booking.com. On arrival they even told us to cancel our Booking.com reservation and to pay them directly. When we asked for a receipt of payment, they refused and told us to just take a photo of the card machine. This stunned us. The staff were getting increasingly rude and told us we were lying about the bed bugs, so we left the hostel at 8pm, shaken and without help. No assistance was offered by the hostel to find transport for us or alternative accommodation. We felt unsafe due to the actions of Yaku hostel. Thankfully, a kind local woman helped us get a taxi to a nearby hotel. This was an awful experience. Yaku hostel please be more kind.

Do not stay here - bed bugs and confrontational staff. Had a horrible experience in Yaku hostel. Found bed bugs in the 3 rooms our group had booked. When we alerted staff they immediately became confrontational, denying that they were bed bugs. One member shook the sheets with the bugs on it and then asked us to prove we saw one by finding others. Thankfully, we had taken photos and videos. However, they continued to deny the issue. The bed linens and pillows had yellow stains and black dots, as well as mould on the pillows. As it was dark and the situation was escalating we decided it was best to leave, loosing the money we had paid for the stay. Very disappointed in this stay and hope it is properly investigated to ensure no other guests have the same experience. We chose this hostel as it is in a good location. However, the experience we had completely overshadows these positives.

The rooms were infested with bed bugs — we saw live bugs, stained bedding, and mouldy pillows. The staff denied the problem, became aggressive, and refused to provide a solution. We were forced to leave late at night and find new accommodation. The property was also much dirtier than the photos suggested, the price increased without explanation, and we were pressured to cancel our Booking.com reservation and pay in cash. Completely unacceptable experience.

Arrived to the hostel with it's beautiful view and lovely wooden interior. When checking in we were met with an additional charge of 373445 COP. Which was weakly explained to us. We assessed the rooms and found them to have stained sheets which arose suspicion of bed bugs, upon further investigation there was active bugs. We informed the staff, they saw them flicked them away and then demanded we find more. We had photographic evidence but wished we got more! The hostel also appeared to be empty with us as the only guests. As the staff were becoming increasingly aggressive and defensive we were forced to leave to a different accomodation at 9pm incurring a significant financial burden.

We had an absolutely awful experience at Yaku Hostal and urge others to avoid it. The rooms were infested with bed bugs — we saw live bugs crawling on and under the bedding, orange stains, black specks on the mattress, and mouldy pillows. This was not a minor issue — it was a full infestation. We have video evidence. When we reported this to the staff, they became defensive and unhelpful. They tried to claim the bugs were “binchas del mar” (which are marine bugs — somehow in our beds?). At one point, they admitted to finding bed bugs in a second room, then walked it back saying “there weren’t enough” to be a problem. They even provided a fumigation certificate, which didn’t match the dirty, unsanitary state of the rooms. No alternative rooms were offered. We were forced to leave the hostel at 8:30 PM and scramble to find somewhere else to stay, at great stress and extra cost. On top of that, the price we were quoted jumped unexpectedly from $225 to $309 with no clear explanation — and they pressured us to cancel the Booking.com reservation and pay in cash. When we asked for a receipt, they refused. This place is misleading, unsafe, and dishonest. I strongly recommend Booking.com review this listing, and until then — do yourself a favor and stay far away.

Disgusting conditions – bed bugs, no accountability, had to leave Absolutely awful experience. We were forced to leave Yaku Hostal the same day we arrived due to a bed bug infestation in multiple rooms. Each of us found live bugs, orange stains, and dirty, mouldy bedding — the rooms were clearly not cleaned or maintained, despite claims to the contrary. When we reported this to staff, including the manager, they became defensive and dismissive, denying the issue and claiming the bugs were “other insects.” Instead of offering help or a solution, they were aggressive and tried to downplay what was clearly a serious hygiene problem. We had no choice but to move to a different hotel at our own expense, as it was unsafe and unsanitary to stay. On top of everything, we were charged more than our original booking price (from $225 to $309), encouraged to pay in cash, and were refused a receipt. No apology, no resolution, and no accountability. Avoid this place completely — it was the worst experience of our entire trip.
