Zostel Varkala

Fine facilities and clean, spacious private rooms but the restaurant upstairs plays loud, terrible music until at least midnight. It would be understandable if there was anything going on up there, but varkala is a yoga town that closes long before midnight, there’s no party scene, and what few people were on the rooftop when I went up (on multiple nights) to ask them to turn the music off were all sitting at their own table, not interacting with one another. Would not stay again or recommend.

Great with a group of friends and if you’re ok with loud music until early morning. Not for the quiet weekenders…

It starts with a lie because the sun loungers shown on the main picture do not exist. It is forbidden to bring your own food or drink, which is in total contradiction with the core principle of hostels. Lots of acari on the wood tables upstairs. Note that if you come in summer, the beaches are closed because of the high waves, disappointing for a seaside resort. Apart from that, non-existent atmosphere, location ok, average facilities. The staff is nice though. Do not recommend this hostel.

Good location, good facilities, they even have emergency medical supplies (I needed sanitary napkins) and they gave me one 🙂

+ clean beds, cool location close to black sand beach, very friendly restaurant manager on the rooftop.......... - super strict about not wearing clean flip flops indoors and having to go barefoot everywhere is not such a bright idea

Beautiful stay in Zostel Varkala. Good location. Staff are friendly and helpful in arranging taxis, they also organise day trips around in the area (eg. Munroe Island) which is great. Only thing to mention is hot water can be limited if showering at night but generally wasn't an issue as the weather was so hot so showering in cooler/luke warm temperature was ideal!

A nice and decent place to stay. It is not on the cliff, so you wouldn’t get the cliff view. Honestly, I felt it is little away from the north cliff but not difficult to reach. Overall, the vibe was cool.

great place. good vibes and facilities. there was an issue with hot water in our room, but I think its just bad luck. place is near black beach and cafes, but all other places will need a bike.

wonderfull location and hostel

Great place to stay, amazing location, close to black beach and walking to the cliff. They arrange tours to Munroe Island, Kapil Beach, and other day trips to make it a wholesome and immersive experience. The hostel can be a bit more cool when it comes to make things lively in the hostel and allow people to chill a bit late at night and not shut at or before midnight. The hostel is clean, well maintained and overall a great option if on a budget.

We stayed there for one night, we had a very good experience. As soon as we landed , Mohammed was there kind enough to ask if we would like to go for a sun set chase , he told us on trail and showed us one of the best sun sets. He also recommended few other places for dinner and sunrise , trust me both were a blast! What a guy, soon we learnt that he is volunteering at the hostel, man you are too good ! All the best !🤙

The location is spot on with everything in the vicinity. Food was okay, nothing great. The atmosphere wasn't that happening compared to the other hostels in the area, there were hardly any social events going on. But all-in-all a good property to chill and take a vacation!

Would definitely go back!

Had a wonderful stay at Zostel

We have just finished our 23 night stay at Zostel Varkala and we were so sad to leave. So many good memories & new friends! The hostel is a 5 minute walk from Black sand beach, which we preferred over Varakalas main beach as it is quieter - perfect for quick dips! It's also a 5 minute walk to lots of nice places to eat, yoga classes, shops etc. The rooms were spacious and super clean - and they offered to clean them everyday too. Excellent place, in front of the black beach, great view. Staff with excellent service, there is a restaurant and at night there is a disco, super fun and friendly to meet people. Hot and clean water, recommended

Enjoyed the stay in a private room very much. The room was located next to the main building. Hence, it was quiet. Room was clean bathroom was good but not perfect. Can highly recommend staying there!

Great place for solo travellers for both workcation and vacation. Zostel varkala does have a very good wifi connection , the cleanliness is praiseworthy, the location and staff are amazing too. They have tie ups with various activity groups for surfing, kayaking, yoga class or ayurvedic therapies. Only thing that can be better is food both in terms of variety and taste. Overall, highly recommended.
