Haka House Taupo

I stayed there at the begining of April. Everything was good on my stay except at the end. They emailed me to say that I didn’t gave back the key of my room so they will charged me for it. The problem was that I gave back the key and I called them 2 times about it and even emailed them. They say that they will look Into it and repay me but still haven’t heard from them again. Now they owe me 30$ but still haven’t hear from them again

S**t stay room was a mess holes in the walls paint stripping off the walls floor not vacuumed spiders in the corners grease and finger marks over the mirror people running outside the room slamming doors yelling keeping awake till 1 o’clock in the morning not worth the money at all very disappointed would not recommend

I’m extremely disappointed with my stay at this hostel. There was a fly infestation everywhere—kitchen, bathrooms, and rooms—both alive and dead, even on dishes. The kitchen was filthy, and the cushions had visible stains. Staff sprayed to kill the flies, but didn’t clean up afterward. The attached building was much nicer, which was baffling considering all rooms cost the same. This was the fourth Haka Hostel we stayed at, and it was a huge letdown compared to the others.

The property was absolutely freezing cold. Every person in my 6 bed dorm felt the same. When we first tried to find a heater the receptionist told us to take one from another room as every room had been stealing them. This is probably a sign that the property is far too cold and management should do something about it. After locating a heater we realized most of the outlets in our room didn’t work so we couldn’t plug the heater in. The heater cords weren’t long enough to reach the outlets ...

Biggest challenge we had here: The bed of my girlfriend had bed bugs! This is a no go! Das Hostel ist hellhörig aber es ging für eine Nacht. Die Terrasse im ersten Stock ist nett. Riesen Problem, weshalb ich jedem von einer Buchung abraten muss: Das Bett meiner Freundin hatte Bettwanzen. Das geht einfach nicht!

Extremely disappointed. Really rude staff on email. Never answers the phone. They would not refund us after our car broke down and we were unable to reach the hostel, lost 3 nights accommodation.

The staff are absolutely lovely and the kitchen/common areas were nice. However, but the location is quite a walk from town and the private rooms are absolutely tiny and very expensive for the size and location. If you have a suitcase, you will not be able to open it in the room. With your bags in the room, if there’s 2 of you, you won’t be able to move. It was also incredibly hot with a token fan which barely worked.

Good hostel, I just don’t think it was worth the expensive price :)

Ofen heizt sich nicht auf und die Wände sind unglaublich dünn. die Küche ist über einem genauso wie der Aufenthaltsraum. man hört jeden Schritt und alle Wörter von den Nachbarn, man kann nicht einschlafen selbst in privat Zimmern. Ohrstöpsel helfen nicht und normalerweise habe ich mit sowas keine Probleme. die Leute reden nichtmal laut oder laufen "stark" die Wände und der Aufbau sind einfach nur schrecklich. außerdem kann man nicht mit EFTPOS zahlen. für den Preis könnte man echt meh...

Unterkunft ist ganz okay. Betten waren gemütlich aber ich wurde überall von Bettwanzen gestochen. Außerdem konnte man nur zu komischen Uhrzeiten waschen und die wäsche wurde nicht trocken

I came on a quiet night so it was all fine. But I imagine when its busy it can get quite uncomfortable

We had a fabulous stay here! Staff were welcoming, comfy bed and a central location. The deck with the view out to the lake is very cool. Highly recommend!

Super Hostel für Taupo mit Parkplätzen und cooler Dachterasse mit Blick auf den See. Nur die Privatzimmer waren sehr klein.

Clean room and facilities! Easy to use washer and dryer! A bit out of the way from the central Taupo area about a 10 min walk or so!

Very good rooms, fairly priced, great location, very nice staff and quite clean!! Sadly quite loud because the walls are very thin and there was also a big group of very loud men playing loud music and no one seemed to want to ask them to be more quiet. The kitchen wasn’t that clean but I genuinely think that’s because of the guests and there could definitely be like salt, pepper and oil for everyone to use.

Better once moved to the main building, be aware some dorms have single beds overlooked by other bunks but when asked to move staff went above and beyond to make the stay more enjoyable

Peaceful location, decent rooms, lockable storage, and well equipped. More dated than other Haka House hostels but we enjoyed our stay. Nice views from the decking area.

An sich alles in Ordnung. Küche oft dreckig und Bäder werden von beiden Geschlechtern geteilt genutzt, also keine Trennung. War okay aber ist vlt nicht jedermanns Sache. Nette Dachterasse, bei gutem Wetter konnte man draußen essen und bis zum See schauen. Bei schlechtem Wetter wird’s sehr eng im Essbereiech

Great place and folks.

Enjoyed our stay. Facilities were good but basic and generally the place could do with a little refresh. However, it was a really good atmosphere, staff were super helpful/friendly, and had the little extras like wine glasses. Really liked the rooftop eating area. Would recommend!

Nice place to stay, room was quite small but it was nice to have the curtains, light and charging point in the bunk.

Good location for the stay, and clothes washing facilities good. Kitchen is big and good for cooking. However, room was too hot with no fan. Also, anyone could walk into the hostel leaving minimal security). Dirty throw on the bed. There was no hand soap in the kitchen or shower gel in the bathrooms so had to request for these to be topped up. Also, very small space for eating food once cooked, as the dinning area is small. hostel is all ages and shared gender bathroom

It's an alright hostel. It's separated into a large house with a large kitchen and outside balcony, which is nice, and a smaller house next to a separate lawn, that is a bit isolated from the rest, where I stayed; that can make the spaceamdspace and connections more intimate, but not if there aren't many people staying, so it's a gamble. Main gripe was the atrocious reception service which proved inflexible and misinformed me about changing rooms and extending.
