Sa Sa Lao

Loud karaoke until 2am, then screeching turkey sounds wake you up at 6am and do not stop. It’s like having a screaming chicken as an alarm you can’t turn off. My vegetarian friend now wants to kill said turkey. If you want a good nights sleep this is NOT the place for you.

Naast de kamer was een haan die je elke ochtend om 5 uur wakker maakte. De WiFi werkte slecht en er was geen werkende verkoeling in de kamer. De gastvrouw was wel vriendelijk en het had een mooie locatie. Desondanks, ben ik vermoeider weggegaan dan ik ben aangekomen. Geen aanrader

Expensive drinks and food. No air con in rooms, location fairly average. Shame because it has a lot of potential but is just rather very worn down and in need of attention.

tolle Lage (auch wenn etwas abseits vom Zentrum) direkt am Fluss mit Möglichkeit ein kostenloses Wassertaxi zu nutzen und zu baden. man fühlt sich wie im Dschungel. Leider sind die Bungalows nicht sehr sauber und auf dem Dach waren offenbar Ratten, die Nachts aktiv waren und das ein oder andere Insekt im Bad, da die Hütten nach oben offen sind. Insgesamt eine tolle, urige Unterkunft. Wenn man sich dessen bewusst ist, kann man eine gute Zeit haben.

Very chilled property, not social but lovely peaceful location. Private room was lovely but Tuk Tuk or scooter required to get to main town. I think for the area room rates were expensive - Nice that the sunset bbq ticket is included tho.

I slept so bad due to the roosters yelling at 5:30 am to the end of the afternoon. The neighbors might have light up a fire, it smelled very smoky during the night giving me a headache the whole day. The person at reception isn’t really welcoming you feel like you are bothering her. It is 25min walking from the main square and not really pleasant to walk back after the dark after having diner in the city center. There aren’t really any option to eat close by except at the hostel.

Lovely eco-hostel with some super cute puppies and helpful staff. The dorm I was in was a bit grotty in places, and was open 24/7 and we didn't have keys so didn't feel super safe (anyone could have come in) but there were lockers for our stuff. The large room only had one little fan so it was very hot and we were woken up early every morning by cockerels and blasting music from nearby. Food was good and relatively inexpensive which was good because it was so far away from the city centre.

Stayed at the Sa Sa Lao the location isn’t ideal and quite a far walk to the main downtown area of Luang Prabang. Very minimal options for transportation tuktuk drop off to the city 60,000 kip, rent a scooter for 24hrs for 150,000 kip or walk. The bungalows are natural bamboo structures that are open to the outside. You must feel comfortable with bugs in your accommodation, such as lizards, spiders, ants, and cockroaches. Not many social activities and the place offered little for entertainmen...

Overall a really beautiful place, nice dorms and clean bathrooms. Somehow the atmosphere was quite unpleasant though (even the two new volunteers left after two days?!!), as the staff wasn’t welcoming at all, didn’t show us anything around the place and wasn’t really communicative. For some reason they thought I hadn’t payed for my room as I wanted to leave, even though I had payed for it after breakfast, so they basically wanted to make me pay twice until they finally realised that I ha...

I enjoyed my stay here, the accommodation itself and the restaurant and social area were good. The dorms were open with no key/card but it felt very safe, just make sure to bring a lot of mosquito repellant as they're really bad at night.

great hostel with kind staff and peaceful place

I would come back again and again, I don’t know what another people think about this hotel but for me is perfect and the staff here are very kind and helpful, relaxing by the river and you can jump in the river. Would recommend 100%

This is the best homestay i’ve been! Beautiful location, food is amazing. You can order whatever you want all day long until 10pm. Staff helps you with booking a taxi or tuktuk to the city center. You can walk there as well, it’s around 30mins. I’ve met some amazing people there. Swimming in the river was also very nice

I really loved this hostel, it was a such a lovely vibe and attracted some really nice people. The common areas were so good to relax in and meet people if you wanted to. It was a bit out of town but I rented a bicycle and it was absolutely fine! Highly recommend

A very cool hostel! I loved the hammocks right next to the river, all in all it was very chill! the beds were nice, the blankets were lovely. The food was also good! Everything is made out of wood, i liked the vibe! It‘s no party hostel - it has a chill social vibe which was amazing. The rooster was very loud in the morning and location is a bit from the center, but there is a free boat shuttle!!:)

Sehr schönes Hostel. Der offene Stil ist zwar schön aber dadurch hört man halt alles und ohne Türen fühlt man sich jetzt auch nicht super sicher. Trotzdem war die Atmosphäre echt super

Auberge idyllique au bord de la rivière. On y dort et mange très bien ! Un peu excentré de la ville mais le bateau navette est très pratique. Le personnel est très sympathique et parle très bien anglais

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here! The bed was comfy, the dorm space was quite clean, and the staff were very kind. I wish instead of mosquito nets, they’d provide curtains for more privacy, but I súper easily rented a scooter with them, and really enjoyed the complimentary sunset cruise they organize.

An amazing stay at Sa Sa Lao!! Such a warm welcome from the team and we stayed in one of their beautiful riverside private rooms with a balcony where we could watch the sunset. There’s a free boat ride into the town on across the day which we enjoyed and you can lounge by the river on multiple seating areas if you like as well! Our highlight was the discovery menu tasting courses which was delicious, thank you Sa Sa Lao!

It's a very chill place over all but there are some things to improve on. There are no individual lights or power outlets for the beds in the dorm. So it's very annoying to do stuff when other people are sleeping. Also no curtains for the beds. Also over the 3 nights I stayed here every morning it was pretty loud early in the morning. So not for people that like to sleep long.

It's a lovely location on the river and nice dorm designs with the mosquito nets and comfy beds. It's a 20-30 min walk to the centre depending on where you're going. Or a free boat shuttle which is fun. Floor seemed constantly sandy. Staff pleasant but not the most welcoming or involving. The dorms are quite loud with external noise too, e.g. nearby karaoke, which kind of took away from the point of booking a place like this!

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Sa sa lao et je recommanderais cette auberge avec grand plaisir ! Tout était disponible sur place, il y a un super restaurant où tout est préparé devant nous, une croisière sur le Mékong offerte par le logement (qui était merveilleuse à faire) et également une navette bateau gratuite qui nous dépose et nous récupère au centre de la ville. L’ambiance de cette auberge donnait envie d’y rester un long moment ! Profitez bien de votre séjo...

the staff is sooooo nice and always here for you. if you like nature it’s very nice and cozy. the rooms were clean and the mosquito nets are very useful i def recommend

little corner of paradise in the jungle, just a bit outside the city center, which is ideal for me but maybe not for you, just keep it in mind before you book. bonus tip be sure to have mosquito repellent with you. ✌️

Hostal muy acogedor, todo hecho de bambú, las camas son muy cómodas y los baños en los dormitorios compartidos están limpios siempre. Precioso chillout junto al río. Ofrecen servicio de barca al centro gratuito. Personal muy amable y atento. Muy buen sitio para desconectar y relajarse (lo único malo, el karaoke de los vecinos)
