New Vasantashram boarding and lodging house

This is literally the worst possible location to stay in entire mumbai. The entrance is completely hidden behind a dark alley and it is so incredibly dirty and unsafe. Moreover, the entire place is dusty and complely packed with construction material. It should not have been suggested. I have lost faith in hostel world and would recommend everyone to walk on the street till morning rather than booking a room here.

After 10 nights staying here I left this morning with a very bad feeling. Yesterday I wanted to extend my stay for 1 more night and tried to do this directly with them. Then they told me to book online, so I did. Then this morning I wanted to pay and an Indian man came asking about the price of a single room. They told him the price is 700 rps. The price I had to pay 931.50 rps. So on purpose they let me pay substantially more than others. really bad, if you treat your guests like this!

I couldn't sleep my bed made me itchy. it's close to the train station and market.

Unfortunately New Vasantashram is not as it appears in the photos; it is up 3 and 4 flights of stairs with no lift, there is no shower (the wash facility is a foot level tap and a bucket). There was a significant amount of dirt and dust in the room, hallways, bathrooms; in fact everywhere. There was construction work going on so perhaps improvements are to come. There were some positives; the staff were relatively friendly, although not particularly used to talking to foreign tourists.

Never stayed because the taxi drivers couldn't find the place

The location is right next to the markets which is nice. The room was very very basic, not very clean. The showers and toilet were not very clean either. We had to WiFi connection is the room. Overall this place was very functional.

Great spot in South Mumbai, place has lots of character and common space quite cool. Also very clean. Was expecting squat toilet and bucket shower, got drain and bucket but no toilet so had to #2 while out which isn't ideal. Also seems to be a boarding house for men which felt a bit sketchy as a solo female,not really a backpacker vibe.

Hard to fault this hostel it's functional and extremely clean for India. The location is reasonable - one thing to consider is that the shower is a bucket-shower, not an issue for us once we got our heads around it though

very good bargain! clean and safe bar bones accom with helpful staff. very much in the hustle and bustle of crawford market

Only stayed a night because it was next to the train station. 15 minutes walk to train station, bathrooms were cleaned regularly.

Alles Gut, Betten natürlich kein westlicher Standard, aber richtig sauber und das Ambiente war mega toll.

Had a great time staying here just you have to climb 3 flights of stair. The owner is very helping

Overall it good. It’s dated but it’s clean and safe. The location entrance is hard to find initially. Once you find the building (and wonder where’s the entrance), it’ll be all the way to the left before transitioning to a different building. They’ll be a small vendors between the buildings, so walk past the vendor and turn right. The stairs will be to the left. You’re welcome!

Beautiful family owned business and had a nice classic look to it. Would recommend quality for price is great and had a lovely stay. Located well so you can walk to the good areas in Mumbai

We loved our stay here because of the feel of the hostel. Feels like you’ve gone back in time and the whole hostel kinda works like Mumbai. Our room was cool and spacious. There are only two shower rooms which only have bucket showers but that’s ok. Just be aware.

We are a couple of travelers that love to explore the world trough art and slow travel type. While in Mumbai we spent 3 nights at the New Vasantashram, and we felt very good in these place. It's like an oasis, with beautiful retro feeling, very clean rooms, and a lovely common area for reading and working relaxed on your ideas. Very nice simple but comfortable place to stay in a great location in Mumbai. We ended up booking a second night because of changes in travel plans and they were very accommodating. They gave us good tips for the local area too. Really reccomend!

Rooms and Bathrooms are clean. Of course free drinking water and Wifi. Staff is super friendly! The Location could not be better. The entry is a bit tricky to find, but with Google maps and the sign in the street it's doable.

Very clean, affordable, with purified water and wifi provided. The lockers were sturdy and the staff were helpful. The building itself was quite beautiful, with chequered tiling and an old colonial feel. Recommended.
