Fortel Hostel

I was woken up in the middle of the night covered in swarms of termites! the manager refused to come out when an employee contacted him, and he ignored all messages from me and other customers staying there. also it was not clean, the laundry room was always locked even though it advertises being able to do laundry and there were rarely any employees to be found at all. the only good part was the location

Took my money, and have not returned my deposit yet. AVOID IF YOU DONT WANT YOUR MONEY STOLEN

Perfect location and quiet. However: Staff wasn’t that friendly, bathrooms were gross, lots of mosquitos due to no screens on windows, and zero hot water though they say they have it. I would rate higher except the clean and water situations were not optimal. I get it’s a hostel but the bathrooms need cleaned more frequently in a place where you have to throw your toilet paper in the open trash bin.

Está bien para quedarse en el viejo San Juan, porque todo lo demás ahí es muy caro. Pero no tiene prácticamente ningún servicio, aparte de una cocina pequeña. No se incluye toalla ni gel de ducha. I told them i would be late around 1:30 am . They did not send me my check in code as they said . I tried to contact them days ago by phone, email , messages and nothing worked. When I arrived at 1:30 am I knocked the main door almost one hour. I had to sleep in the airport. The next day they apologized and promised a refund which did not happen, then they offered me another night , i accepted and requested by email , which they never answered. 😡The organization of the recepción is pretty ...

Not super social, couldn’t do laundry even though laundry is on the list of facilities, flying termites showed up not once, but two separate times.

Had a wonderful stay but paid deposit for a mistake they made. Would like to give the hostel a 1 star review because of this. During our stay, I've mentioned the problem several times and they said it would be no problem. But now they charged us 30 dollars and won't respond to my emails (I've send like 10 mails already). Feels like we were getting scammed.

This hostel is okay. It did not have anything to dry your hands on in the restrooms (no paper towels, hand dryers, etc) which is important for hygiene. Only 1 of the bathrooms seemed to have a functioning lock. The water in the showers was not hot (I tried 3 of them). Also, the front desk person was not helpful. We asked her a simple yes or no question before 9 pm and instead of answering she said she was off the clock and just using the desk for her makeup. Also text inquiries are not answered.

My one-night experience with the facility: No pillow case provided and the pillow itself was stained with bodily fluids. The shower I took didn’t seem to have any hot water. It didn’t seem like people shut the front door to the facility fully, so there’s a security concern. Some positives for me; great location if you’re looking to stay in Old San Juan. Well within walking distance to many bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. The air conditioning seemed to be pretty good.

Excelente ubicación. Muy limpio y seguro. Me gustaría que tuvieran cocina y más áreas/actividades para socializar. El ambiente en el hostal estaba muerto.

I had a wonderful experience. Staff are very helpful and kind. This place is worth it and very clean.

This was the perfect lil hostel for me, a solo female traveler, visiting Old San Juan! The location is AMAZING. It is walking distance from all the wonderful things Old San Juan has to offer- restaurants, cafes, shops, the path along the water, historical buildings, etc. Self check in was super easy & communication with the staff was incredible & prompt. The rooms and bathrooms were clean & the bed was comfy enough for 8 hours of sleep! I love the small homey atmosphere & it was quiet at night!

Good place. I felt super safe being there because there was a keypad entrance and another keycard to get into the room. The bathrooms were fine, but somewhat felt a bit dirty and there were no hand towels. Bring earplugs because there is a club next door and the door to the bedroom is not real soundproof. I like that they provided a towel and let me keep my luggage there before the normal check in time.

No tenía buenas expectativas por los reviews; sin embargo, superó mis expectativas. Suelo viajar sola así que conozco la rutina de estar en un hostel. Aparte de la buena ubicación que tiene, el lugar está bastante limpio y eso es lo mejor. BEST HOSTEL IN SAN JUAN!!! Super clean, everyone was so friendly, and it’s in the BEST location!!! Seriously the beat hostel ever!

Very clean bed and big locker available. Make sure you bring your own lock. The bathrooms are cleaned daily. Great location in old San Juan, very safe and walkable. Very friendly staff and travelers. Just be aware that the front desk is not 24/7

I had a wonderful stay at this charming Fortel Hostel. Very central and it's a very cute place, I was very well welcomed and every time I had any question there was always someone to help me out. rooms were clean and the common spaces too.

It’s very calm when I stayed. Rooms don’t have windows which is a big bummer. Lots of bathrooms but they need to be bigger. Staff was really nice and helpful

My friend and I stayed 2 night on our way to Culebra, we wanted to experience Olde San Juan before getting on the ferry. This place was great! Very clean, 4 small bathrooms with showers so you don’t have to wait for your turn and right in Old San Juan district with in walking distance to the Fort and Castle as well as many eateries and souvenir shops. Carlos was extremely helpful with advice from places to eat and when to order an Uber to talk us to the ferry. Will definitely stay again.

I didnt feel very safe when I got there, staff was kind of rude or not helpful. Not super sociable either but it was fine for the 4-5 days I was there. Not sure if I would be back
