Shiralea Backpackers Resort

My bed had bed bugs, I immediately changed to another dorm without any charge (of course), the bathroom definitely need a makeover. The parking is exactly in front of the big girls' dorm so you can hear people chat and motorbikes.

There is absolutely nothing positive to say about this resort. Upon our arrival the room smelled like mold. When we looked in the bathroom, mold was all over the pipes and down the wall. The beds were ROCK HARD, sheets were stained and had several holes in them. When you take the sheets off the beds the beds are stained in ways I wish I never saw. The staff was rude and tried to blame us for the grossness of the rooms. Our friends rooms had bed bugs and the owner asked if they wanted to continue to stay in there.. this place is awful. Stay at your own risk. We ended up at highlife 3 mins up the road and WOW. Do yourself the favor and just save yourself the stress and stay there.

I wanted to be able to leave a better review but sadly, out time at Shiralea was bitterly disappointing. When we arrived, we had high hopes for the resort with this being the first stop on our 6 months tour of South East Asia. The bungalows are basic, about what you would expect for the price but the room wasn't at all clean. When we turned the tap on for the first time, loads of black dirt came out. I left from a weeks stay there covered in bed bug bites leaving me incredibly uncomfortable and itchy. Please be aware of this. The staff at first seemed friendly but we soon came to realise that they weren't at all interested in you if you weren't spending time at the bar getting drunk. We stayed on Koh Phangan for the New Year countdown party on Haad Rin but other than this, partying wasn't on our agenda. We found the staff ignored us on a number of occasions when we went up to the bar to collect more toilet roll and collect our room keys. We felt really uncomfortable and didn't want to spend any time in the social areas for this reason. Overall, really disappointed and we won't be staying here again.

We stayed at this place for the full moon party this August . We wanted the flash packer experience and the pictures make the rooms look so nice. We didn't mind so much at first because we were going to be out all night at the full moon. It wasn't until we returned and had to stay for two more nights given that there is a minimum of 3nights during the full moon period that we noticed just how horrible the rooms were. We had bed bugs and immediately took the sheets off the beds. We quickly learnt that we were sleeping on ancient mattresses filled with mould and the pillows should be illegal. They were flat and a grey colour from dirt and mould. We were told that we would have to sleep there that night because the bar man couldn't see any bed bugs and he gave us clean sheets. We woke up in the morning absolutely covered in bites and could see more bugs in our sheets. We had to complain again and this time refused to stay as we felt so disgusting. Luckily they refunded us for two nights and paid for our laundry. Do not stay here it is also very far away from the full moon party... At least an hours drive. Look else where!
