Hostal Antigua

Not worth it at all. It’s cold! The water pressure is extremely low & the Staff are unfriendly & they won’t answer any questions! With the same budget you can find much better options in town. Even though the check-out time was at 12:00. They knocked the door at 10:00 & they told me they need the room because they are fully booked.

The whole room smelled like dirty public toilet. When I expressed my concern, they put so much cleaning chemical so the whole room smelled like Clorox it gave me a headache the entire time my stay in the room.

The beds are good. But the staff is really unfriendly und they want money for everything. I’m normally a chilled person but they really got on my nerves with there behavior haha Well, we met some nice backpackers there but that is the only positive thing that happen in there.

Might be ok for a private room but the 12 bed dorm is expensive for what it is. Place is plastered with signs with rules. Hostel seem to feel like guest are a nuisance. They give you half a pillow a simple sheet. Had to go ask for a real blanket cause I was freezing. All in all minor inconveniences but quite a lot of them so I would recommend you go somewhere else if your looking for more than a bed to sleep in.

Be careful with this hostel. Tried to rip us off during check out. Wanted to charge us for dyeing their towels, but we could proof it’s their own soap that dyes the towels.

Beds + pillows really firm and not comfortable Minimal soundproofing so quite loud in evening Shower absolutely awful - a lukewarm trickle (if it gets hot at all). Terrace upstairs but no real atmosphere/vibe However clean + good location

Pas de douche à l’extérieur des chambres et une seule toilette à côté du/de la réceptionniste. Pas d’endroit pour se poser à part des chaises sur le toit et dans le couloir. Déposer sa valise après avoir fait le Check out coûte 5Q et ce n’est pas dans un local mais à côté de l’entrée souvent sans surveillance. Très bon emplacement

Weird vibe, rude staff and they just come in the room at 6am. Stay somewhere else..

Something was very off in this hostel. Extremely wierd vibe and not social. Kitchen and bathrooms did not feel clean. Bed was nice tho. Staff not very friendly. They had signs everywhere telling you you had to pay extra for literally everything which did not make you feel welcome.

The front desk ladies were very nice however their google maps address is wrong and when I tried to call for the address, no one spoke English which made it challenging with the 2 combined. There is 1 bathroom per 12 people in a dorm that is in the actual dorm so you hear people doing their business all night and if you need the washroom and someone is using it, you’re screwed. The blanket provided was a very thin sheet and I was awake most of the night cold with a sweater & sweats.

Good location

Exceptional hostel in a very central location. I visited 2 years ago and it’s still very good. There’s a kitchen to use. One dorm room with bathrooms within dorm. It’s always spotless. The staff is always super kind with me and flexible. The quality of the pillows and beds could be a little better. But it could be my age.

Excellent location, just a short walk from the central square. There's not really much of a vibe, but I wasn't looking for that pre-Acatenango so that's fine. I got placed in dorm bed one which didn't have an accessible locker - and when I raised the issue, I was advised to put my valuables in a permanently open locker next to my bed, which wasn't great. Booked another night anyway and requested a different bed which solved the issue. Thanks to the staff for helping despite my poor Spanish.

No social vibe, can’t smoke on the rooftop. Cant really beat it for the price though

Auberge très propre, eau chaude, cuisine bien équipée. En revanche l’ambiance n’est pas sociale du tout et le seul lieu commun est la terrasse mais elle ne se prête pas trop à la discussion. Bien localisé

Solid hostel for 2-3 nights!

Only stayed one night before hiking the volcano, but it was perfect and very quiet. It’s mostly private rooms then one dorm room which had comfy beds with curtains.

Really good location and kitchen was well equipped. The staff were friendly, perfect place if you want a quieter calm place

All in all a good hostel! Good location, comfortable beds! Just the shower was a bit disgusting. It was full of hair and whenever you took a shower, your feet were completely covered in water (because the water didn‘t drain). I‘d anyway recommend this hostel! :)

Bien situé et sécuritaire

El lugar muy limpio, está cerca a un bar conocido que es la Doce, las chicas de recepción y el señor de seguridad muy amables todos, la cocina limpia y bonita. LO ÚNICO QUE NO ME GUSTÓ, los baños.. 1 baño de hombre y 1 de mujer para 12 o más personas entrando un cuarto y casi que teníamos que hacer fila para entrar porque fuera del dormitorio no había baños compartidos más que el de la recepción que igual resulta súper incómodo ya que habían personas entrando y saliendo. Muy buena atención. Las camas son muy cómodas. Me hospede dos veces con una diferencia de dos días. Una vez me salió el agua caliente hermosa (lo cual no es habitual en Guatemala) y la segunda tibia para fría. La ubicación es muy buena, podes ir a pie a todo el centro. El lugar es muy tranquilo, la única zona en común es la terraza/patiecito. Ofrecen café de cortesía a la hora del desayuno.

As for price, location, and cleanliness, this is a great hostel! I stayed in a private room and found it very nice. There is some seating in the hallway and a small rooftop area. This hostel is not very social, so if that's what you're looking for, there are many others. For me, it was perfect for a quiet weekend!

Fine for a one night stay, staff are really nice and helpful. Walls are paper thin and showers are cold--so wouldn't say it's the most restful stay. Kind of felt like a ghost town and the barred up doors don't create the most welcoming ambience for a nighttime arrival. But again, staff is great, had nice recs, and an easy for-value stay when passing through Antigua.

Great location - 3min walk from central square. Bathroom and shower were in decent condition and the room/bedding was clean. Staff were very nice. No real social atmosphere but you can find that elsewhere if that’s what you’re after. Only issue we had was our room was right by the front entrance and our door (double doors) would lock, but you could just push them open with minimal force so not secure at all. Worth trying to avoid that room if you can.

Great hostel if you’re looking for something quiet and chill before or after acatenango. Bed was comfortable, staff were extremely helpful and lovely.

Alles in Allem, okay. Wer nach einem super sozialen Hostel sucht, ist hier falsch. Es gibt quasi nur zwei Bäder was etwas wenig ist. Ebenfalls darf man auf der Terrasse nicht rauchen, heißt man muss immer vor die Tür gehen. Betten sind gut.
