First of all, I arrived to a member of staff responding quite rudely to another customer who had their ID stolen, whilst I appreciate that policy wouldn't allow them to stay, staff were quite blunt and rude. I then checked in, and another customer had complained about bed bug bites. I was in the room when the bed was checked and staff said that they were not any, and I accepted this and decided to still stay (bad idea). I soon left, had a wonderful time out and returned to the hostel around midnight. You quite literally have to walk through rubbish, bins and horrible smell to get through the late hours door. Upon entering my room, someone else was sleeping in my bed. I brushed my teeth, in the facilities where 2/4 of the toilet locks were broken too, and then upon attempting to return to the room my key no longer worked. I went to reception and it turns out that my name was not on the system for the bed at all, someone else was put there over me. The staff member was at first dubious and acted as if I were lying, only believing me when I presented the card given to me upon checking that had my name and room number and bed written on it, however I believe that this was partly in jest and this member of staff was friendly and helpful, and this was sorted and I was moved to another room and bed. However, the other room had rubbish and belongings everywhere and looked essentially as if someone were living out of the hostel. The bed was uncomfortable and it was very hot in the room. I checked out the next day and later the following day discovered that I too had many bite marks over my upper body. I have photos that could be presented if needed, but do not wish to publicise those on a review. Ultimately despite it being a cheap budget hostel, I have stayed in these across Europe and this is my first experience like this, right here in London. Very frustrating.

I stayed at Saint Christopher’s Inn and unfortunately experienced what appeared to be a bed bug infestation in my room. I documented the issue with photos/videos and reported it to staff, but I was disappointed with the response and refund handling. I would strongly recommend future guests inspect rooms carefully upon arrival.

Lots of stairs to climb and no handrails on the side and I’ve now been infestated with bedbugs at my apartment due to people bringing their luggage into the dormitory and infecting my backpack totally unacceptable and now I’m having to get someone to treat my home It’s an absolute nightmare as I’ve never had this problem before!

The location is great. It is close to the train station, bus stops, the University of Greenwich and not too far from the O2 Arena. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the overall value for money is good. Unfortunately, cleanliness was an issue during my stay. The room was quite dusty, and I found myself sneezing a lot. I also noticed bed bugs, which was disappointing. The shared toilets were frequently clogged, especially in the mornings and evenings. It has potential given the convenient location and kind staff, but maintenance and hygiene standards need significant improvement.

There were bed bugs. I was on a bottom bunk bed near the door in the 12-bed dorm (room 6 I think) and my bed had bed bugs. Got bitten all over and actually saw one of the bugs crawling across the bed. When I informed staff and requested to check out early, they refunded me for the nights I hadn't yet stayed, but not for the nights I did stay getting eaten alive by bugs. So I got to pay to be bitten in an unhygenic environment. What's even worse is that not a single member of staff apologised to me, which I thought was very unprofessional and quite frankly appalling. Other negative things: the bathrooms all stank strongly of urine at all times even after they had been cleaned, most of the toilets either didn't flush properly or were out of order, the dorm room was so hot and stuffy even with the window open 24/7, you couldn't even sit up in bed if you had a bottom or middle bunk (no space), the lockers are unusable if you have a wire lock, the common area is in a windowless basement and therefore also stuffy and unappealing, no hooks or anywhere to hang up your wet towel in the dorm after you shower. They call themselves a backpacker hostel but most of the people staying there don't seem to be backpackers, there isn't the typical young hostel atmosphere, the guests are mostly middle aged men. The "mixed" dorm is 99% men, if you're a young woman alone I really don't recommend it as I was very uncomfortable and didn't feel safe. Also lots of men snored or started talking amongst themselves at 6am which disrupted everyone else's sleep. I've stayed in the cheapest hostels in the cheapest countries all around the world, probably stayed in hundreds of hostels at this point, so I am not usually fussy and will put up with a lot but this hostel was just awful and I certainly didn't expect such low quality in London.

Bed bugs- My review has nothing to do with the staff… they were nice. The rating is for the cleanliness of the hostel and the bugs I found in my bed. Upon reading more reviews it seems that it might be an ongoing and unresolved issue.

This is the place I was once falsely reported by the Owner as being thrown out on a Disconduct Charge. Nothing like it ever happened. However the slur remained (secretly) on my personal record and was used against me. Didn`t find out about it until at least 2 years later. Well Miss Ellie Ellen Roberts I know your name, don`t worry. Of course, if a place really wants rid of you they will happily go to great lengths to invent something if it suits them. Bed bugs my arse!!!! The hostel was shabby and lacking in a lot of things. They never replaced the stolenTV Remote after being asked several times. I only ever stayed here because it was cheap. But eventually, over time, you see, people start to become fed up and are happy to fork out a little more for far better places than this dump. Management are a pathetic law unto themselves. Avoid if you have any sense please.

The customer service was really bad. Upon arriving in my room, there was no pillow, someone else was using a locker, and I was bitten by bedbugs. The room toilets were filthy.

If you didn't book here yet, please don't. If you have already, please cancel. I had been here 5 years ago and the place changed quite a lot. This place is really nasty and I had to book a hotel elsewhere in order not to sleep a second night. Let me elaborate further. First: I've seen many hostels, some bad most of them decent, some excellent. I'm a 28yo guy not a rich 50yo used to 5 stars hotels. During the past 10 years I've seen a lot of stuff. But this beats them most. Its position is quite good and it's adjacent to a nice bar, however the whole place stinks a lot and is very small. The situation gets worse when you enter the dorm: room 6 had 4 3-storeys beds (12 people total) in a minuscule place (like 12 sqm) and the window DID NOT OPEN! One bed covered half the window so you can(not) imagine the smell...no space for shoes outside (hence people brought them in), the only good thing was the absence of bed bugs. Most of the lockers didn't work so we had to leave our possessions behind or use the 10£ per day lockers. The place is filthy and populated by weird people, probably drug addicts or alcoholics (sleeping on the floor of the common room with 3 beers next to them), I don't wanna be classist I just wanna sleep well and enjoy my stay so these people should go to a help centre not an hostel! Someone in our room was snorting so so so bad it was an issue impossible to deal with. Someone else had a call at 7am inside the room. It's not a direct responsibility of the hostel...indirect though if you cramp 12 people like animals in a 12m2 dorm of which some are very very weird. Heck call me classist or whatever but I bet you don't want to sleep in such conditions. Another guest left earlier like us as well. Other reviews say the same. I came here because I had a good time 5 years ago...times have changed. The only positive aspects besides the position: 1) the very kind person at the reception who understood our remarks listed above. I wish she didn't have to work in such a place. THANK YOU A LOT you kind soul. 2) the breakfast, quite good.

Was asked to leave two hours after working a 12 night shift because of bed bugs. Had no where to stay and had to work another 12 hour shift with only two hours sleep

Maybe it's all London hostels that have severe problems with space, but the idea of putting 12 berths in a room of a fit size for one person is inhumane. It's literally hard to breathe even with the window open and air con working overtime. I woke up feeling grubby and depressed. Then on my final night I got back and found someone in my bed. The sketchy explanation was that there had been an outbreak of bed bugs, though why that should mean I lose the bed I'd been in for three nights already, was not really explained. There was a club night happening, and the staff seem to double as hostel dogsbodies and bar staff, which is not satisfactory for anyone. Where's the money going? A couple of years ago I stayed here and the place had remained open despite the plumbing not working, with disgusting results. So I'd expected a certain amount of sketchiness and opportunism but not to this extent. Just avoid the 12-dorms, and ideally just avoid. Great location though.

I had a horrendous stay at St. Christopher's Inn in Greenwich and experienced equally insensitive customer experience from an employee of the hostel. At around 3:00am during the early hours of Friday morning I woke up with burning/itching sensation on my arms and body. I had been bitten 11 times, on my arm, hand, fingers and even scalp! I checked out of the hostel to photograph a protest in in Central London and both my left arm and right hand which were heavily bitten became swollen and painful. A pharmacy I visited confirmed the bites were definitely from bedbugs and sold me antihistamines as well as insect bite relief cream. (For reference, I stayed in dormitory 6, bed #10). St. Christopher's have denied my claim in an indifferent and unapologetic manner as well as any responsibility for the incident. They also made it clear they have no plans to fumigate the premises or refund me for my stay. AVOID.
