Elterwater Hostel

Now in the hands of private individuals, a shocking state of affairs when the 'YHA TRUST' sold so many properties that were working just fine. Elterwater was by far one of the best Hostels in the YHA Family. I sincerely hope that one day this whole scam is properly investigated and exposed for what I believe it is.... LEGALISED THEFT. Massively overpriced refurbs, and blatant asset stripping.... utterly disgraceful. Still.... at least the 'TRUST' maintained the YHA's ethos, and commitment to t...

The hotel was a bit faded , but on the whole a good place to stay.

Beautifully located hostel, comfortable beds and good value food. Slightly run down but perfectly passable. Does not have its own parking but is very close to a national trust car park.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the room was adequate, but the washroom facilities and the breakfasts were both very poor. The ladies washroom seemed to have permanently wet counters and floor (presumeably because it was impossible to get out of the shower cubical with dry feet.) The breakfast options were poor quality and not well cooked. They did offer fresh fruit, which was a saving grace.

Ich kann dieses Hostel sehr empfehlen. Ich habe es als Basislager für Wanderungen im Lake District National Parc genutzt. Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Essen schmeckte auch sehr gut. Toiletten und Duschen waren sehr sauber und genügend vorhanden.

אכסניה חביבה במיקום מדהים. מי שרוצה לטייל באזור - אפשר לצאת ברגל. צוות נהדר ועוזר!!! החדר שישנו בו קטן - מיטת קומותיים. שירותים ומקלחת משותפים. הכל נקי! לינה לא מאוד נוחה... ארוחת בוקר מאוד בסיסית ולא זולה.

Hostel was fantastic, just what we needed for a large group of 24! Staff were amazing, very helpful throughout. Social space was ideal and we even enjoyed a family picnic in the garden outside. Would highly recommend.

My 11 year old daughter and I enjoyed a nights stay at the hostel. Anthony and his partner were both extremely welcoming and took great care of us. The hostel is brilliantly situated, well equipped, our private bunk bed room was warm and very comfortable and just the thing we needed after a night of wild-camping in the local area. Thoroughly recommended, we will return.

Perfect hostel for staying in the heart of the Lake District. Easy going vibe, secure rooms, short walk to nice pub that serves food. Perfect for hikers.

Wonderful stay with very hospitable hosts, this hostel is in a perfect location for the Cumbria way as well as other day hikes, with good dinner and the offer to make you a packed lunch and/or packed breakfast if you wanted to (as we did). Highly recommend this stay which had the welcomeness of the YHA's of old!

A lovely hostel in a beautiful location. Staff are wonderful, so helpful and kind. Rooms are comfortable and everywhere is lovely and clean. The best equipped self-catering kitchen I've ever used!

Brilliant place to stay in Elterwater! Stayed here on day 1 of the Cumbria Way. Rooms were good, facilities were fantastic and staff were extremely helpful! Drying room was also fantastic! Would stay here again!

A great hostel setup in a great location. It is perfectly located in the Langdale valley on a well connected bus route giving lots of opportunities for adventures. The rooms and facilities were clean tidy and relatively new, with a drying room making wet walking doable. I will definitely be visiting again in the future!

This was my first time staying in the hostel but it was really nice place 🤗 Elterwater hostel is located in the very scenic place. They allow you to bring your own food and cook/heat up there. They also have their own food menu, breakfast is until 9:30am and evening dinner starts at 6pm ig not sure. I had Margarita pizza. There are few vegetarian options and dessert, soft drinks and energy bars are available. Overall I have had a good time there.❤️
