Hostel-specific complaints exist, but the stronger pattern is citywide: local reporting describes a growing Brussels problem in housing and social-sector settings; 2023 reporting tied Belgium/Brussels call spikes to travel, hotels, trains and second-hand furniture; official Brussels guidance addresses hotels, return travel, homes, sofas and second-hand goods; and recent public accommodation reviews mention bed bugs in hotels and apartment-style rentals.

  • Several accommodation examples are individual reviews rather than official inspections; they are useful signals, not proof of active current infestation.
  • COVER's protocol is targeted at day centres and precarious-population services, so its broad Brussels claims may emphasize high-risk social-service environments rather than average tourist exposure.
  • Wemmel is Brussels periphery, not Brussels-Capital, so it should be treated as regional context rather than direct city evidence.
