Lybeer Travellers' Hostel

Do NOT stay here. We stayed at a city flat managed by this hostel. We woke up after the first night with our sheets crawling with bed bugs. My friend was bitten severely (see pictures). We were transferred to a new room, this time with no kitchen facilities, with no refund despite them taking our payment details upon check-out, emailing them and calling them to follow up. Worse, the bed bugs had laid eggs in my luggage/jacket despite them being far from the beds-- the place is obviously infested. This impacted the rest of our trip and cost us a lot of time/money with zero compensation. The receptionist who helped us change rooms was lovely but this is still not good enough.

Absolutely unacceptable experience. We stayed in Room 9 from October 11th to 14th and discovered bed bugs in the room. We informed the staff, who told us the manager would contact us — he never did. We’ve sent several messages with no reply. This level of negligence and lack of respect for guests is shocking. No compensation, no follow-up, no apology. Clearly, this place has serious hygiene and management issues. I strongly advise avoiding this hostel until they take responsibility for their customers’ well-being. // Expérience inacceptable. Nous avons séjourné dans la chambre 9 du 11 au 14 octobre et avons découvert la présence de puces de lit. Nous avons immédiatement prévenu le personnel, qui nous a indiqué que le manager reviendrait vers nous — cela n’a jamais été fait. Malgré plusieurs relances, aucune réponse. Le manque total de professionnalisme et d’hygiène est consternant. Aucune excuse, aucun geste, aucun suivi. Une gestion irrespectueuse et irresponsable envers les clients. À éviter absolument tant qu’ils ne prennent pas leurs responsabilités.

Bed bugs everywhere. I’ve been bitten maybe over 50 times everywhere. Can’t sleep without scratching. Terrible. Don’t stay here

Hay chinches, me picaron todo mi brazo y pensé que solo era una pero si había varias... Además que solo dos baños por casi 20 personas o más y uno de ellos super pequeños, mejor un hotel aunque esté más caro

Un chico era agresivo y me dió miedo compartir habitación con el. No hay nadie en recepción durante la noche, ni un número de teléfono al cual llamar. Al otro día al explicar la situación y solocitar cambio de pieza a la chica de recepción la respuesta fue: no quedan más piezas. Aparte de esto las camas tenían chinches que te daban comezón por todo el cuerpo. Lo único bueno la ubicación. No lo recomiendo.

La chambre numéro 9 dans laquelle j' ai dormi est infestée de punaises de lit. Très très mauvaise expérience.

The hostel is quite run-down, the shower and toilet facilities are inadequate and less geared towards young backpackers. The free coffee and the opportunity to use the kitchen was good (even if it was only rudimentarily equipped). I was in a four-bed room (the most expensive dorm), with dubiously stable beds, a squeaky mattress, dirty sheets and (which I unfortunately only discovered after my departure) bedbugs! No recommendation!

Good location in the historic part of Bruges, beautiful city. My partner and I stayed in a 4 bed dorm. And left with BED BUG bites all over us. We asked on our third night if we could swap to a private room as online we had seen that this room was cheaper then having 2 separate beds in the 4 bed dorm. We were told from management “what’s in it for us if we change you for no extra charge.” An odd thing to say when you’re in the customer service industry.

I stayed for 3 nights and had a terrible experience. - Found bed bugs on the bed and got bitten. - Strong smell of urine or feces coming from the bathroom into the room. - No staff at reception at check-in time (3 PM); 5 people were waiting. After 20 minutes, a woman arrived with her child and told us her daughter was the priority - Fire alarms went off around 5–6 AM on two different nights. Staff said “it happens” because guests sometimes smoke indoors. - staff was absent Would never stay again

The sheets are disgusting, my duvet had a yellow stain, and the bed bugs here are the WORST I've ever experienced in my travelling life. Got bitten 16 times on the right arm alone, absolutely not satisfied. However, the reason I put 2 stars instead of 1 is because I did complain directly to the staff and they acknowledged it well, and left on good terms, so there could be some good to overcome my complaint from this date.

The hostel location is great, is an 8 minute walk to the center and it has a lot of places nearby, the lobby is cozy and they offer free coffee and tea. The rooms are nice and spacious, the bed comfortable but the next day I woke up with a lot of bites (bed bug bites) So I think it’s important that the management do something about this because it’s really disgusting and just because of this I think I wouldn’t stay here again but well I guess that just for one night is ok.

Unfortunately woke up to bed bugs after the first night. We told the receptionist and she gave us the choice to move to another room. After checking the bedding in the new room we found nothing and decided to stay there. Because we had already accepted the fact that we had to take the correct measures (washing and freezing) when coming home. Even though the bugs left a mark on our trip, we had a great time in Brugge. The hostel is located perfectly in the city and breakfast was lovely.

This place has bed bugs. I tried to reach out to the hostel after my stay but they never responded. Would stay away until it’s fixed.

Front desk girl was super kind and sweet. Its location is great and close to everything including the train. The bathroom situation isn’t ideal… but they are nice and clean. The beds are less than desired. The pee sheet cover was dirty, not even washed for however long. You have to make your own bed and honestly I feared for bed bugs, so far nothing. For one night it’s fine, but I’d have preferred somewhere cleaner and might not rebook on a future visit.

Got bed bug bite!!!! very dirty pillow and stained bedding. Light in shower shut down when i was showering, inconsistent hot water supply. No hairdryer, I slept with my hair wet. I would never go back and i ask for refund

Music in the living room. Playlist needs an update with better songs for sure. Found a beg bug in room 35, so maybe be a little more careful in cleaning.

Place was nice… But had Bed bugs!!! Woke up with about 30 bites after 1 night!

Excellent hostel with great atmosphere. I was worried about others' comments about bugs and general cleanliness, but the newly refurbished area I stayed in made it one of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed. With respect to bugs, there are mosquitos, not bedbugs. But I don't think there's much the hostel can do about this without preventing people from opening the windows. I wouldn't be surprised if the situation was the same at other hostels in this region.

Would he fine, but the place had very few people at the bar there and I had to move beds because of bedbugs.....

Tuve un problema con chinches/Bedbugs en este hostal, además de mis piquetes, mi mochila quedó infestada. Esto me trajo gastos extras de lavandería y malestar en mis días siguientes al viaje. Le mandé mensaje al hostal y no hay respuesta ni compromiso alguno.

La segunda noche tuve problemas porque la cama tenía Chinches/Bedbugs. Me dí cuenta por la mañana, cuando me comenzaron a picar. Mi mochila quedó infestada y eso me trajo gastos y dificultades para los días siguientes de mi viaje. Mandé un mensaje al hostal y no me han respondido nada.

As other reviews have mentioned, the locking of doors really depends on your roommates. No lockers in the room so hopefully u room with honest people. I woke up each night with bites of some sort. I checked for bedbugs and didnt see any but something kept biting me each night. No fans or ventilation in room.

DO NOT STAY HERE! I got bitten up by bed bugs and staff did nothing to help me when I came to them about the issue. So itchy and disgusting. The kitchen was also tiny and there were no real stoves- everyone was fighting over the one pot because it wasn’t well stocked and was too small for everyone to cook. The staff was also rarely there if you needed them- I waited at the desk and they only came out when I called on the phone from the lobby. Rooms were small and there were so many hairs in my bed.

Bed bugs! Mattress was riddled with them when I took the sheet off after having stayed there for two days with friends. I am covered in hundreds of itchy-bites. This hostel was ideally situated and the staff were nice (but not helpful when I revealed the bed bugs), however, I would not recommend staying there at all.
