Bed bugs. Only found one, but saw evidence of more- went out and bought tea tree oil as I was stating 2 nights. When I informed the receptionist he behaved as if he didn’t know what I was talking about.

Hostel Ramuntcho sits in the center of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, just around the corner from the Pilgrims Office and right on the Camino launch zone. It works best as a practical first-night base: step off the train-station route, sort the pilgrim admin, find food or a bar nearby, and start walking without logistics getting weird. The social side is mostly tied to the bar, cafe, terrace, and the first-night meal setup. It can be an easy place to meet Camino friends before everyone scatters over the Pyrenees, with a front terrace and central old-town location giving it more life than a purely functional bed stop. Rooms are basic and uneven. Clean private rooms, in-room bathrooms, baths or strong hot showers may be part of the experience, and a few balcony or mountain-view moments can land nicely. The building also feels old and tired in places, with small dorms, wobbly metal bunks, awkward sockets, weak lighting, broken fixtures, and limited storage for packs. This is a convenience-first pick, not a polished hotel. The location is the main win, especially for Camino logistics, but sleep can be hit by street noise, upstairs noise, heat, thin soundproofing, or the bar area. Breakfast and dinner are inconsistent, so it is worth treating meals as optional rather than the whole plan.
