Confirmed Hostelworld
Oh man I really debated leaving a review because the staff were really friendly but I feel the need to warn fellow backpackers that the bed I was assigned had a terrible case of bed bugs (like seriously I’ve never seen so many at once)…They moved me to a private and refunded me which I appreciated. Vibe Analysis
Da Housetel has an in-house tattoo studio, which gives the place a different pulse from a standard Kuta hostel: music, pool hangs, bar nights, free family dinner, and travelers sticking around longer than planned all feed into the same scruffy little social engine. The strongest draw is the evening rhythm. Free vegetarian dinner gets everyone around the table, then the night can turn into live music, jam sessions, singing, dancing, games, cheap drinks, and long Bintang conversations. It is social without always being a full-blast party hostel, but quiet is not the main deal here. There is a pool, lots of places to sit and chill, good coffee, smoothies, breakfast and lunch options, and staff who can make the place feel warm, loose, and family-ish. It works best for solo travelers, music people, long-term Bali drifters, and anyone who wants a cheap base with instant company rather than polished facilities.
Signals to check
- Cleanliness is inconsistent, especially in bathrooms, shared areas, sheets, and older rooms.
- Noise can run very late, with music or singing sometimes going until 3am or later.
- The location is useful for the airport, but it is away from the beach, clubs, and busier tourist streets.
- Security can feel loose in certain rooms, with lock, door, locker, or roadside access concerns.
- Facilities are basic and older; Wi-Fi may be weak in rooms, and top bunks can have low or missing curtains.
