Bed bug reports

Confirmed Hostelworld
Bed Bugs !!! Many of them !! Got bitten over the whole body. Furthermore the staff took the AC remote control & wanted to charge us 5€ per night. The AC was still in the room, he just removed the remote control so we could not use it ?! Laundry service - got the clothes back WET. The bathroom was completely flooded with water after (short) showering. Walls literally 1mm thick. If you are still considering going there, the only positive thing to say is that the atmosphere was social.

Vibe Analysis
Free kayaks for the nearby lagoon are the standout perk, turning a budget beach stay into an easy sunset mission. Wanderers Hostel also sits a short walk from the beach, restaurants, bars, and the main tourist strip, so Trincomalee plans can stay low-friction. The social setup is the main reason to book: hammocks, long tables, games like carrom and chess, and a relaxed common area make it easy to meet other travelers without a full party-hostel blast. Staff often help with Pigeon Island, snorkeling, diving, whale or dolphin boat trips, scooters, tuk-tuks, onward travel, and local tips. There may also be free tea, coffee, drinking water, and a big local breakfast for an extra charge. Rooms are budget-basic rather than polished. The mixed dorm can have AC and a fridge, while the female dorm may only have a fan and can get very hot. Cleanliness is inconsistent: plenty of the place can feel cozy and well kept, but bathrooms, sinks, showers, kitchen corners, mold, flooding, bugs, and hard beds are real caveats. The atmosphere can be warm, social, and low-key fun, especially when the right staff are around. It is not a cleanly predictable hostel, though: there are repeated problems around one staff member or owner figure behaving aggressively, creepily, drunk, pushy, or unsafe, especially around women. Book for the beachy backpacker energy and lagoon toys, but keep your tolerance for rough edges switched on.
