I stayed at Caveland last month and need now to share my experience with BEDBUGS I found there. Me and my friend stayed at Caveland for around 4 nights early August 2024. I saw a bedbug in my bed and my friend was covered in bites. When we tried telling the management, we were gaslighted and not taken seriously. The management was also extremely unhelpful and categorically refused to take accountability. I trusted the hostel's management word and when I got home naively at first which cause me not to take all the measures to prevent an invasion. Now, a month later, we are still struggling with bedbugs and a nightmare isn't a strong enough word to describe what we are living in. My advice, be extremely careful when travelling and at best, AVOID CAVELAND.

Vibe Analysis
The cave-style rooms are the hook at Caveland: old Santorini character, cool interiors, blue doors, flowers, and a village-like layout with plenty of outdoor space. It feels more like a small social compound than a standard bunkhouse, with a big pool, terraces, common areas, and a calm setting outside the loudest part of Fira. Breakfast is a real part of the rhythm here, not just a token toast station. The pool area, morning tables, and evening hangouts make it easy for solo travelers to slide into the scene, and the staff often help with island plans, transfers, tours, ATV or vehicle ideas, and local food picks. The activity game is unusually strong: group dinners, movie nights, yoga, hikes, volcano trips, catamaran or sailing tours, and occasional farm-to-table meals all fit the Caveland pattern. It can be peaceful rather than chaotic, but still very social when the right crowd is around.
Signals to check
- Fira is usually a 20-30 minute walk away, and beach access can take more planning.
- Dorm beds may not have curtains, so privacy can be limited.
- Some rooms and bathrooms feel older; minor issues can include tricky doors, dark bathrooms, small showers, missing soap, musty towels, or weak in-room Wi-Fi.
- The cave architecture can mean short doorways, moisture, and colder nights outside summer.
- A vehicle, ATV, or bus plan helps if the goal is to move around Santorini fast.
