Bed bug reports

Horrible experience BEDBUGS ALERT! Normally we are always really friendly in reviews but now we need to be honest to help other tourists with avoiding bedbugs. We were brought 100 meter further then the hotel itself. The matress was super hard, but hari didn’t see a problem with that and asked us to try and sleep on the matress. When waking up the next day we were full of little bites and after checking the matress we saw the matress was in terrible state. It was made of hay inside. We begged them to switch the matrass what they did. We were still not sleeping at all and were scratching the whole night. The next days we saw bed bugs in the room. We showed Hari but he just did trow the bedbug on the ground. All our clothes were full of bedbugs and our skin was full of bites. One of us is a doctor and knew 100% sure it were bedbugs. Our last night they did put us in another room in the hostal itself and agreed after begging to wash our clothes with cold water, which is not helping at all as you need to wash it above 60 degrees or put it in the freezer. They didn’t help us at all, we needed to go back to Male to do our laundry there. The next day we saw other clients in that room again.. We also didn’t get a sheet or towels, we always needed to ask for it. Hygiene and service really bad. Also the pillows were full of mold.

Vibe Analysis
Hari is the main reason Surf Trip Maldives works when it works: he helps with speedboats and ferries, excursions, surfboard rentals, food tips, laundry, and island logistics. The location can be a real win too, with Bikini Beach, Cokes surf break, restaurants, cafes, and shops all close by from the main property. The place is best read as a simple budget base, not a polished social hostel. Rooms can be clean, spacious, comfortable, and good value, with air conditioning, hot water, drinking-water refills, a shared fridge, and a small kitchen setup available in some areas. There is also space for wet beach or snorkel gear to dry, which is practical on Thulusdhoo. The rough edges are serious. Surf Trip Maldives appears to use multiple locations, and some rooms are away from the main building, farther from the beach, or beside construction. Room quality varies a lot: dark windows facing walls, mold or musty smells, peeling paint, stained towels, weak upkeep, noisy pumps or generators, and basic bathrooms all show up in the pattern. The kitchen ranges from useful to run-down, so this is not the safest bet if cooking is central to the plan. Book this for a low-key island base near the beach and surf, with hands-on help from Hari when operations line up. Skip it if you need predictable room placement, a strong common area, spotless facilities, quiet sleep, or a stay that feels professionally managed from check-in to checkout.
