Vibe Analysis
2S Hostel Vientiane is a very rough budget option in a central, walkable part of Vientiane. The location is its clearest strength: food markets, restaurants, bars, banks, ATMs, shops, and the city center are close enough on foot, while the property can still feel quiet at times. The courtyard pool is the main reason to consider it. When it is clean and working, the pool area and garden can be a decent place to cool off, and rooms facing the pool seem better than some of the older front or upper-floor rooms. The pool has also been out of order or poorly maintained at times, so do not book only for swimming unless you are ready for disappointment. Expect an old, patched-up building with uneven room quality. Rooms may be large, but recurring problems include dirt, mold, smoke or drain smells, broken fixtures, hard beds, weak or unreliable air conditioning, poor Wi-Fi, thin walls, and bathrooms that need serious work. Breakfast is basic and inconsistent, and some facilities shown or promised may not match what is actually available. Staff can be friendly and helpful, especially with room changes, laundry, free water refills, hot showers, and local practical help. Service is not reliable across the board, though, and there are repeated issues around slow check-in, poor maintenance follow-through, odd extra charges, uncomfortable atmosphere, and security concerns. This is a low-expectations crash pad, not a polished hostel.
Signals to check
- Cleanliness and maintenance are major risks, including mold, bugs, dirty bathrooms, stained bedding, broken doors, and worn furniture.
- The pool may be pleasant, dirty, drained, noisy, or unavailable depending on timing.
- Room quality varies a lot; pool-facing rooms seem stronger than some front, street-side, or upper-floor rooms.
- Breakfast, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, laundry, transport help, and payment handling can be inconsistent.
- Solo female travelers and anyone sensitive to security or atmosphere should be cautious.
