The hostel has been inaugurated just a few days ago (December 25th 2024) but some areas are still under construction (namely, the common area and the private rooms). The bedsheets were stained and dirty. We found one large coacroach and three small ones in the room (which is ok considering that you are in the middle of nature, but the walls and floors have quite a few holes that for sure don't help). The real problem was that once we woke up we were covered with bites (see picture below). We are unsure whether from bed bugs of fleas. Overall the hostel has a good potential but it needs significant improvements and the price does not reflect the quality at the moment.

Vibe Analysis

Hangover Chill & Hill is a social-but-chill Phi Phi base with a pool, a free pool table, a big common area, cats around the place, and a team that actively pulls the room together. Leo, Eduarda, Adam, Aom, and the crew are a real part of the stay: friendly arrivals, daily island tips, boat-trip help, restaurant and bar ideas, and a WhatsApp group that makes it easy to link up without turning the hostel into a full party hostel. The location sits a little uphill from the main strip, which means extra sweat with a backpack but also more quiet at night than the center. The sweet spot here is hanging by the pool, meeting people in the common area, then walking 5 to 10 minutes for food, bars, beach time, or the viewpoint route. Dorm life seems much stronger than the private bungalow side. Dorms are often clean, spacious, and comfortable, with good AC, plenty of showers and toilets, lockers in at least some rooms, and simple freebies like water, coffee, tea, cookies, and bananas. The whole thing feels small, personal, and easy to plug into, especially for solo travelers or groups that want social energy with a calmer reset zone.

Signals to check

  • The hostel is up a hill, and some rooms require stairs; arriving with luggage can be sweaty. 3 mentions Last mentioned Mar 1, 2025
  • Private bungalows have had more serious issues than dorms, including old fittings, musty smells, insects, mold, thin walls, leaks, and weak maintenance. 3 mentions Last mentioned Sep 10, 2025
  • Bathrooms can be humid or basic, with limited counter space, occasional bugs, and inconsistent shower pressure. 3 mentions Last mentioned Apr 3, 2026
  • Security may feel light in places, with padlocks or room access that may not suit cautious solo travelers. 3 mentions Last mentioned Apr 24, 2026
  • Noise is mixed: the setting is usually quieter than the center, but room-to-room sound, late-night dorm behavior, cats, or distant music can still be a problem. 3 mentions Last mentioned Jan 18, 2026
