Maya Papaya

I Would've loved this hotel except They have an horrible bed bug infestation that they are not addressing. They refused to refund my money and when I told them about the issue, the front desk receptionist was sleep and I had to wake them up. They asked me to go take pictures just for him to take pictures right after me. He proceeded to tell me he would change the sheets as if that would solve the problem. I have dozens of bites across my body and I spent 2 hours at 3am in the morning checking my luggage, meanwhile the receptionist went back to sleep. I will never stay here again

Great hostel. Very calm. Breakfast is really good and filling. Hector was nice. They cleaned the dorms everyday as well as the bathrooms. The showers are AWESOME 👏 Free coffee in the afternoon was much appreciated. Just be careful: A lot of ants everywhere. I saw one bed bug and they told me it’s normal considering people hike and come back to the dorm carrying them sometimes? They sprayed and changed my sheets. Didn’t see any more. - Stayed a night in the dorm - Covered in bites from bed bugs the next day - Spoke to reception told they would clean the beds but with being at capacity we would need to share a single bed - Initially offered two free drinks as compensation - Eventually offered the night free with the promise we would both be back in our beds after having them cleaned. - Came into the room later to discover cleaners (who were lovely) using supermarket bug spray to clean the mattress - no longer comfortable going back into original beds but told there was more availability tomorrow. - Waited around from 10am to about 5pm in the one of the hostel common spaces whilst waiting to be placed in a room. - During this time we were offered another single bed in a private room knowing that they had a private double in their sister hostel that was 5 mins from where we were staying but refused to place us in unless we paid the difference. - We were told this was the first time it’s happened, but we’ve since come across multiple travelers who said they had a bedbug experience at maya papaya. - The only action for them to take is to lose a night in each bed and have the place fumigated properly or this will continue to happen
