Bed bugs, noisy neighbourhood, squeaky beds, unhigenic washrooms.

The hotel was horrible. The service was fine but at me and my friends room we got bitten by bed bugs. It was unpleasant and many lights were broken. The bugs were on the walls and beds. Our friend also got scratches but she sleeps in the lower bunk alone. The scratches were big and she got them by only 3 nights. Bad experience would never again.

Værele, seng og sengetøj var beskidt og ulækkert. Væggelus/bedbugs vækkede mig, og næste morgen havde jeg henved 50 bid over hele kroppen.

I spent three nights at Dan Hostel in April and had a terrible experience. The last night I was there in my bed there were a lot of bedbugs and that was by far the worst experience I had with an accommodation in my life. The reception was closed so after I realized around 1 am – because I started feeling itchy – that there were many bedbugs, some quite big, on both my pillow and my blanket, I woke up and spent the whole night sitting on a chair. I left all my belongings in the property, went to buy new clothes in the morning, to avoid bringing them home. But this was not even close to be the end of the story: the day after I woke up with around 50 bites per arm, and on my face, neck, etc… for an allergic reaction I ended up at the hospital. And the only thing the management of the hostel did is to refund me not even the three nights but only the last one. They told me they would have make somebody treat the room, but I am not sure whether that happened. Besides the bedbugs, the level of cleaning of the hostel is very poor, the shower room extremely cold and the showers very uncomfortable. Rooms do not even have the basics as lockers for example. In addition, they charge for towels and bedsheets… I think the hostel does not reach the minimum standards for an accommodation.

Great facilities but it is INFESTED WITH BEDBUGS giving me over fifty bites all over my body. Go at your own risk

Vi brugte cirka 2 timer på hotellet på at pakke ting i plastik poser og kigge alle tingene igennem før vi kunne tage afsted. Vi fik intet refunderet eller nogen form for rabat blot et undskyld. Vi besøger ikke igen.☹️

Das Hostel hat die perfekte Lage in Aarhus. Man ist mittendrin im geschehen und muss keine Anfahrtswege in Lauf nehmen. Auch das Personal ist sehr bemüht, da kann man nichts sagen. Das Problem ist die Einrichtung und die Preispolitik. Die Zimmer sind wirklich sehr eng ausgestattet und die Bettkonstruktionen denkbar unprakisch. Überall Ecken an denen man sich (als großer Mensch wie ich) anstoßen kann. Die Klimatisierung ist nicht vorhanden, im Sinne von es gibt keinen Durchzug, die Luft steht in Zimmer. Außerdem haben sich Gäste über Bettwanzen beschwert. Was ich nicht bestätigen kann. Aber nachdem ich gesehen habe dass die Matratzen auf Spanplatten liegen (perfektes Habitat für Wanzen) und den Umschlag an Touristen (die diese über die Reißverschlüsse und co. ihres Gepäckstücks bringen) macht das schon Sinn. Ein weiteres Manko, die Preispolitik, extra Zahlen für Bettwäsche (noch nie davor gesehen) und fürs Gepäck aufbewahren. Parken kostet extra, das kann ich aber verstehen da es wirklich zentral liegt. Das Personal war sehr bemüht, sie können ja nix dafür für die Einrichtung und Preispolitik. Ich würde sage für eine Nacht tauglich, aber länger nicht.

Very central location, nice views from the top floor which has balconies to several sides. However, the rooms are crammed. Very hot during the night due to insufficient ventilation. No living space all in the 8 bed dorm – no room for a table or chairs. The plastic undersheet was intolerably hot, even with normal bed linen on top of it. This was a cool night in May, so I can’t even think how bad it will be in summer. Lockers under the beds are really just loose bedroller drawers. Noisy when you roll them out in the night. The buckle didn’t fit without bending it. The “bring your own padlock” concept is dated The shower room was old, inconvenient and not sufficiently cleaned – I saw the cleaner swab the floor, but the huge piece of hair on the wall in the shower was still there, like the day before. You don’t get any soap except at the handwash basins. My neighbour in the upper bed claimed there were three girls who left because of bed bugs. He searched his bed thoroughly but didn’t find any. I didn’t get bitten, so I can’t confirm it. But I might want to sleep inside a duvet cover the next time. Or at the competitor. However, not unimportantly — staff was nice and the house had a good character somehow. I wish they would upgrade the shortcomings and maybe put a few less beds in each dorm.

After two days I discovered that there were bedbugs in the room. I told the receptionist and we had to sleep another night in a bed with bedbugs. We got a refund only for the day they cleaned the bedbugs, not for the 3 nights before that. The owner told us she was doing us a favor with the cleaning since she is not required to do it. It seems to be a problem that the hostel is not able to control since years because there are bedbugs complains in the reviews at least every year. I definitely do not recommend this hostel.

This is a bed bug ridden hostel. They don't even sanitize the rooms. The room I stayed in had bed bugs in both lower and upper bunks. After a horrendous night of being chewed alive by the bedbugs, I reported it to the staff in the morning. The girl who served at the counter asked me for evidence and started looking for the bugs in the morning - I mean c'mon! Don't you know the bugs are nocturnal. Then I had to take picture of my bug bites and share it with them. They offered to wash all my clothes and stuff and to come back in the afternoon to collect it - guess what? They didn't because apparently they didn't have the time to clean my stuff. And then they offered me a refund - but, they can only issue it to a bank account. Who in their right mind would want to share bank account details with a hostel over email? Outrageous and I really hope this place gets the stars it really deserves. Update after the owner responded: No you don't take this seriously. Look through the reviews and there's someone who complained about the bedbugs just two weeks ago. So they can take payments via credit card, but cannot offer the refund the same way - what gives?

Danhostel Aarhus ist das Allerletzte! Dort arbeiten schlechte Menschen die Gäste abzocken. Die Rezeption ist telefonisch nicht erreichbar. Wir sind mit dem Auto angereist und hatten mehrfach während der angegebenen Arbeitszeiten versucht anzurufen um unsere Ankunftszeit mitzuteilen. Auch eine Sprachnachricht auf dem Anrufbeantworter hatten wir hinterlassen. Als meine schwangere Frau und ich um 22:30 Uhr einchecken wollten wurde dies verwehrt mit der Begründung das wir uns nicht gemeldet hätten. Im Nachhinein habe ich gesehen, das das Hostel Emails geschrieben hatte. Ein Rückruf ist nie erfolgt und der Mobile Checkin Key wurde nicht geschickt weil meine Email nicht bekannt gewesen sei. Bei der Bitte die Anzahlung zurück zu erstatten wurde diskutiert und abgewimmelt. Im Nachhinein bin ich froh das wir dort nicht übernachtet haben. Bei den Bettwanzen Problemen in Dänischen Hostels hätten wir uns die Drecksviecher bestimmt auch noch eingefangen. Das Hostel macht keinen sauberen Eindruck und die Hochglanzfotos stammen wohl von der Eröffnung.

This hostel is infested with bedbugs, I was bitten many times in the night. I reported this to members of staff but they refused to give me a refund I even though I showed them what happened. There were so many that the infestation must have been left to grow for a while. The management think that explaining how to treat the luggage is sufficient, but if they had been proactive in tackling the problems (and as previous reviews show, they haven't, there would be no infestation. There are other hostels in Aarhus, so please avoid this place.

Great location. Nice place. Amazing staff. All those things are brilliant. Yet, I would like to inform about one of hostels policies. When you book the room one of the main points is the price. Yet, in case of Danhostel the price is not accurate. When you arrive you are informed that you HAVE TO USE clean bed sheets. You can't use sleeping bad or blanket if you have one. You have to use clean sheets (I have never seen someone backpacking with set of sheets) or rent bed sheet from them +7 euro. I have seen that they do it to keep the price low. But once again I would like to ask: How many of you EVER backpacked even on the same continent not mentioning coming from far away bringing with you a set of clean sheets? If you want to use you own blanket they say that you cannot in order to protect bed from bed bugs. Yet, one of my friend had problems with them and the truth is that if you have bed bugs they are not passed ONLY by sleeping bags or blankets and even if you have them at home you have to use special detergent and high temperatures to get rid of them. Thus, that means that even if i bring my own bed sheets they can still contain the eggs. Plus the clothes that you wear can contain them. So the arguments that i was presented: this policy helps protects hostel from bed bugs is quiet not valid. It is simply marketing strategy. And if you don't use the bedsheets that you rented you have to pay fine of 40 EUROS i believe. Luckily again amazing staff rescues the place from 2 stars review. I just see this policy simply, as not fair. The beds are extremely noisy. I tried three different but all of them made a lot of noise.

Had bed bugs. a couple of days later I had bites all over my body. Same with one of my friends. I would be very careful, check the bed for bed bugs.
