Coco Khao Sok Hostel

Check-in was straightforward: booked via Agoda, paid a 200 THB key deposit, and was shown to my dorm bed without issues. The basics are solid—clean linen, clean towel, no bed bugs (seems this has been resolved), and reliable air conditioning. Bathroom and shower facilities also appeared clean and well-maintained. Operationally, though, the place is chaotic. Staff appear disorganised, signage is confusing, and information is fragmented across different points. English proficiency is limited, which compounds the lack of clarity. Some staff seem disengaged or without a clearly defined role. Nothing is centralized—ordering food, checking in, checking out, and receiving services all happen in different places with no clear system. Did not book tours through them due to the overall lack of organisation, and noticed prices had recently doubled, which reduces value. Trusted my gut feeling on this.

The place is well situated on the main road and there is a possibility to book buses for your next destination directly at the hostel's counter. Also possibility to book a 1 day or 2 days tour in the park and on the lake which is very fun and worth doing. However the bed is not clean, I had the sensation of having insects and bed bugs all over my body and could not sleep. I saw a stain on the bed cheats and on the wall. I think this place is fine for a night.

We had a bed full of bed bugs, which cost us loads of money to sort out as we had to wash absolutely everything we owned at a high temperature. We also booked the transfer to Surat Thani with them and the driver tried to scam us by dropping us stranded in one area with a couple of food places that we had to buy from rather than taking us to our night boat. Bed bugs didn’t seem to be taken seriously (though we were refunded for one bed). YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I stayed there „2“ times. The first one was absolutely fine. The 2nd time me and 2 others were sent away cause the room we booked had bed bugs. They sent us an email before our arrival saying we had to check in before 5 but absolutely no mention of the fact that our room wasn’t even available. All other hostels were booked out. And WE had to ask for a refund from the deposit of Hostelworld. The staff was nice but it would’ve been cool to let us know before to think of a new sleeping arrangement

AVOID AT ALL COST - As on May 14th there are bed bugs. Pretty sure the staff doesn't care about it when looking as past reviews - The 3N2D experience was only nice because the national park is amazing, otherwise everything was wrong: - Food was OK but not enoug. Hopefully we packed snacks. Especially the last lunch, it was a joke. A guy asked for more, the guide said "ok but just for you". We were confused. - That lunch lasted 10min. Because I booked with Coco they forced me to go back to the hostel although I didn't have a transfer for another province like some people. - Guide was more like a boat and hike helper. We didn't learn anything. - The hike was pretty dangerous. "A walk in the river". More like a climb in waterfalls. We fell. I had some back issue and because of that it got worse. If I'd knew I'd stay in the bungalows. - The cave thing was a waste of time

Cute little hostel and staff pleasant and friendly. The room itself was reasonably priced but I felt the one day tour we took was a little expensive. The food in the hostel was also overpriced compared to nearby places which I think is a shame because it put me off eating there. Unfortunately we also realised the morning we left that we had picked up bed bugs, maybe this was unlucky as the dorm seemed clean apart from this. I think if cleanliness and price could be improved this would be great.

Leave this review for last place BEDBUG PROBLEM We booked a package trip to the floating bungalows which included a night stopover here. We had read reviews reporting bedbugs so on arrival asked if the issue had been dealt with. We were told it had, however we found actual bedbugs in 2 of the beds so ended up vacating the room quickly and spending the night in the bakery downstairs. We will have to launder everything before we move on to our next stop. Coco Khao Suk Hostel if you read this you need to do more than steam the beds in one room. The whole hostel needs heat treatment to eradicate this issue and by not doing it you are putting other hostels at risk.

BEDBUGS!!! The whole room was full with bed bugs!! The smell wasn’t nice eather because everything felt so wet in the room. The guard honestly did not pretty much, he handed me his phone with I think woman manager. She tried to find excuses but gave us a total refund. When I ask for another room she got angry and said that we need to buy a new one. After 1 1/2h someone came at 2:30am that they have a new hostel. DONT EVEN GI THERE FOR ONE NIGHT

BEDBUGS! me and my boyfriend stayed here a night and he got bitten alive. when i told the staff they didn’t seem surpirsed and just told us to move beds- so unhelpful and they didn’t care or come and strip/clean the bed. good location for national park trip and spacious rooms but i didnt feel comfortable sleeping there after the bedbug situation and the staffs lack of urgency or care. Even the next morning when we left the bed was still in the same state- not clean at all.

BED BUGS!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Unfortunately we didn’t read the reviews before booking here so when we arrived we checked the beds super thoroughly (flipped mattresses, took sheets off etc) and they seemed fine. then at about 1am we found bugs on our sheets and in the corners of the walls. We had to sleep on the floor in the end and still found them in the room! Luckily we got a refund but is not worth it!

Bettwanzen!! An sich ein schönes Hostel, man schläft gut, und direkt daneben ist ein Café. Wir haben Bettwanzen bei uns im Bett gefunden und daraufhin die Rezeption aufmerksam gemacht. Die Frau wurde sagt geschrien und wurde sehr unfreundlich, dabei konnten wir nichts dafür. Ich verstehe nicht warum in diesem Ton mit uns gesprochen wird, obwohl wir die jenigen waren, die Bettwanzen gefunden haben. Am Ende haben wir uns schlecht gefühlt, wie kann das sein? Sehr unfreundlich!!

BEDBUGS!!!! We arrived here on the 28/04/25, at first all was well. we got taken up to our rooms and we had a look around to see what the place was about. We came for something to eat as we couldn’t go out due to the weather. We ordered a fried chicken sandwich each, the bread had been warmed up but they failed to heat the chicken so it was stone cold. Once we’d finished eating it took the staff around 40 minutes to clear our plates, it wasn’t busy and there was 11 members of staff in the bakery so there was more than enough of them to clear some plates which were clearly finished with. Following on to the evening safari walk, our guide was lovely and very chatty but the walk itself felt very pointless, there wasn’t much to see at all and it does get very busy which then hides away any animals. Once the walk was over we came back to the hostel and went to our room, having checked the beds over again (we fully stripped them) we started to get ready for bed; having made sure our bags and any clothes were well away from our bedding just incase there was bedbugs around. After looking we thought we were safe, but one of the girls noticed something crawling next to her shoulder and it was in fact a bedbug. Once we had noticed one we then saw more. We had questioned the hostel upon arrival about the bedbugs and they knew about the issue and told us not to worry as it had been dealt with and the beds are steamed everyday. This surely can’t be true as we found multiple across 2 beds in our dorm. Seeing the bugs it was around 2am, we got our bags and came downstairs to the bakery where we were greeted by 2 workers asleep down here, one of them came over and said ‘check out’ we then replied ‘no, we have bedbugs’ and he said ‘keycards’ so we handed over our keycards and he gave us back each our 200 bhat deposit for the key. He then gets back into bed like nothing ever happened, fast forward a couple hours it’s now 6am, suddenly he speaks no words of english. he comes over very aggressively with google translate asking ‘what we were doing here and he was going to take us to the bus station’ to which again we replied with ‘no we’re waiting for reception we have bedbugs’ again aggressively asks why we never told him about this before, which we did tell him and he did nothing about it other than take our keycards off us. After offering multiple times to take us to the bus station and us saying no, he repeated saying reception opens at 7:30am to we’d reply saying that we are going to wait. He repeatedly asked to see the video proof of the videos we took, which he proceeded to disregard them, acting like we hadn’t taken them in this hotel and it had been somewhere else. the duvet was a light green sheet so with the flash on it looked white, if this happens don’t back down!!! fight your corner as they will try to tell you that you’re the ones in the wrong! Then more staff start arriving and it’s around 7:10am, some lady comes over and asks us to show her the bedbugs in our room, we explain that they won’t be there as it’s now daylight and they came up and stripped our beds. Said they’ll only refund us for the 2 beds that the bedbugs were found on and we said that we won’t be doing the floating bungalows either, we’ve had no sleep and have sat downstairs all night and then very kindly offered us a full refund each apart from any payments it would have cost us to get into the national park. Stay at your own risk.

BED BUGS, do not stay here unless you want to get bitten alive and have cockroaches join you from the drains in the shower

Onze kamer had bedbugs! (29 april 2025). een ander meisje in een andere kamer had het ook en zat helemaal onder de bultjes de dagen erna. We hebben gehoord dat ze de bedden gewoon opnieuw opmaken, maar de bedbugs kruipen in het hout. Ga hier niet heen!

At about 1130pm myself and my friend both discovered them on our bed/ curtain. Told the guy on reception and he didn’t care and said there were no free beds to move to. Tried calling and messaging their WhatsApp with no response. Fortunately we were able to check into Boom hostel next door. Don’t stay it’s not worth the risk. We were on the lower floor which seems to be where the problem is.

Buiten de bedbugs om een prima hostel. Ik ben er 2 nachten verbleven en 2 andere bedden. In ochid 7 heb ik niks gevonden maar in ochid 6 heb ik ze wel gevonden helaas

It does not seem like they wish to do anything to fix the problem. They did refund me for the night which was nice but when I brought up how it’s been an on going issue, they shrugged it off and said there’s not much the cleaners can do. It’s very clear they are aware of the issue but don’t care to fix it since most people only stay for one night anyways. It’s too bad bc the hostel has a lot of potential- it seems clean to the naked eye until you check your sheets and see the infestations.

Eine Person aus unserem Schlafsaal hat tote Bettwanzen in ihrem Bett gefunden. Danach habe ich nicht mehr ruhig schlafen können! Ansonsten ist das Hostel okay. Bäder sind sehr sauber.

Bit of a bed bug scare - but all was okay. None were there. A few people I met in my room had initially booked on to the tour that included the night safari ( which meant their first night accom in hostel was included in the price ) because of the weather and them being tired they decided not to go meaning they were refunded 800 bhat. Which made their accommodation and national park stay cheaper, which I didn’t think seemed fair.

BEWARE BED BUGS !!! It’s a shame because this hostel has so much potential. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are nice, and the facilities are decent. Booking tours and onward travel is also easy. But unfortunately, it’s infested with bed bugs—and I’m not the only one who’s had this experience. While I appreciated the hassle-free refund, it felt like a known issue. Looking at the most recent reviews, I wish I had noticed how many others have complained about the same problem. I really hope they fix this, but if you choose to stay here, just be warned: sleep tight, and don’t let the bed bugs bite!

De kamers zijn erg mooi, echter zijn wij hier wakker geworden door de beten van bedwantsen. Wij sliepen in 2 bedden in een dorm van 8. We troffen meerdere volwassen bedwantsen aan, wat aangeeft dat er een plaag is, wij zagen er 10 over de dekens lopen ‘s ochtends. Wij hebben de bedden gecheckt toen we aankwamen, maar dit bleek niet genoeg. Het personeel was niet behulpzaam en niet geschrokken van wat er was gebeurd. Dit voelde achteraf rot omdat mogelijk de hele kamer besmet was met deze plaag.

I woke up in the middle of 5 bed bugs and now my whole body is a red itchy pimple, and currently experiencing an allergic reaction.

The place is liter full with bedbugs, I think there actually might be no rooms without it. It’s all infested and it seems like they’re not trying to change anything. Very sad. Otherwise it would be a good hostel

Die Klimaanlage ist dermaßen kalt und lässt sich nicht verstellen. Zumindest gab es keinen Unterschied, als ich es versuchte. Konnte nicht schlafen, musste mehrere Lagen Kleidung anziehen und habe mich stark erkältet, obwohl ich nur eine Nacht dort verbrachte. In einem anderen Dorm wurden Bettwanzen gefunden. War bei mir nicht der Fall, dennoch wollte ich es erwähnen. Schade dass diese beiden Punkte auffielen, ansonsten Top Hostel.

Gute Ausstattung, die 3 Tagestour war gut. Aber mein Bett hat Bettwanzen. Mir wurde die Nacht sofort erstattet und das Personal hat sich gekümmert. ich kann Coco Hostel grundsätzlich empfehlen, aber bitte bitte prüft euer Bett bevor ihr schlafen geht. Vor allem im Raum Monkeys.

Heel leuk hostel, hoorde alleen van veel over de bedbugs. Verder vriendelijk personeel en leuke uitjes.

We booked it for the trip to Kao Sok which was a little disappointing with the floating bungalows being very tiny, and around it, it was very dirty. In the coco hostel were bedbugs and the bed was making so much noise when turning around.

Achtung Bettwanzen. Das Problem ist dem Personal bekannt aber scheinbar einfach egal. Nachdem ich die Bettwanzen bemerkt habe wurde mein Bettzeug gewechselt, aber nur das Bettzeug wechseln bringt recht wenig.

Haben hier zwei Nächte verbracht. Die erste Nacht war perfekt, alles war sauber und gemütlich. Nach der zweiten Nacht wurden wir leider von Bettwanzen überrascht... wir haben in Bett 3 & 5 geschlafen. Service ist dafür gut, jemand ist extra 5:30 Uhr für uns aufgestanden, damit wir auschecken konnten.

Rezension für 1 Nacht im Nationalpark & 1 Nacht im Hostel - Schimmel/Stock an den Kissen nur bedeckt durch einen Kissenbezug in der Unterkunft beim Nationalpark (siehe Bild) - Dreck, Haare etc. der Vorgänger waren alles noch da - Bett wurde also im Nationalpark nicht neu bezogen (siehe Bild) - Haus steht in Fäkalien. Die Toiletten haben einfach nur Rohre und laufen direkt in den See - man könnte sagen so ist es in der Natur halt. Aber Nur 2 m weiter beginnt der Schwimmbereich, getrennt durch ein paar schwimmende Baumstämme. - Hostel: eine Dame aus unserem Zimmer hatte direkt Bettwanzen und bat um ein neues Bett. Eine Mitarbeiterin kam in unser Zimmer, guckte sich die Wanze an und sagte nur „komisch das hatten wir bisher nur in den Zimmern auf der unteren Ebene“ - wie es also in vorherigen Bewertungen stand stimmt es leider - Situation im Nationalpark ansonsten sehr touristisch, wie viele andere schon schreiben keine Kleingruppen sondern eher 30 Personen auf ein Boot gequetscht, aber da weiß man ja auf was man sich einlässt. Positives + wirklich tolle Natur und die Hütten haben einen direkten Blick darauf, wir hatten sogar eine für uns zu 2 + Mitarbeitende im Hostel waren wirklich bemüht, hilfsbereit und freundlich + die Nachtwanderung am ersten Abend (2h) war ganz cool, wir haben Schlangen, Spinnen, Skorpione etc. gesehen + Boote waren überdacht, das war bei der Sonne wirklich gut + Preis recht günstig im Vergleich zu anderen

Punaises de lits, vivantes, dans 2 de nos 3 lits… Nous n’avons pas été piqué mais nous avons eu super peur de les ramener dans notre voyage… On l’a dit à l’accueil, l’hôte n’avait pas l’air si étonnée que ça et nous a demandé des preuves. Après en avoir trouvé une morte, qui ne comptait pas selon elle, on en a quand même trouvé une vivante.

PUNAISES DE LIT !!!!!!!! N’y allez pas. Nous avons montré les punaises à la gérante, elle les a tué dans sa main et ensuite nous les a montré en nous disant que ça craignait rien comme elles étaient mortes. Preuve à l’appui qu’elles étaient bien vivantes. (Nous étions 3, on en a eu dans 2 lits différents).

My room had bedbugs! The rest of the hostel I quite nice but not worth the trouble because of the bedbugs. The people from the hostel didn’t seem surprised when we showed them and refunded our money, but then we had to find another place to stay on short notice which was quite expensive… We also saw that the next morning there were already new people in our old beds, so we don’t think that they handled the problem. The tour to the lake was okay but you can definitely find better!

Ideal for going on the tour. Would’ve been Good bathrooms and bedrooms. Unfortunately I had bed bugs. Wasn’t very happy with how the situation was handled. I was refunded 280baht which I’m not even sure was a full refund for the night but I was too tired to check after being up in the night showering and moving my belongings. Annoyingly will have to use this refund money to pay for laundry. I asked the hostel if they would pay but this request was dismissed. Not great. Check bed if you stay !

unfortunately i woke up the next day with a bunch of bug bites (no mosquitos, i assume bed bugs..)

Unfortunately, one of our beds was infested with bed bugs. I woke up with several bugs on me. When we alerted the staff to this they simply moved me to another bed and then without changing the mattress, (we know as one of us was there all day) they let another person move in to that bed as if there was no issue. Another guest was also affected by the bed bug issue.

Le dortoir donne sur la route principale donc pas mal de bruit quand même. Il y avait des punaises de lit dans un de nos 2 lits.... Nuits horribles pour ma femme qui n'a compris le problème que la deuxième nuit. Ils nous ont remboursé une seule nuit.. Point positif : le transfert gratuit à l'hôtel depuis bus stop et la clim dans le dortoir

Good for one night before visiting the national park. Unfortunately they had bedbugs! My friend and I were in the same room and both got bites. I noticed some previous reviews mention this so hopefully they're sorting it out!

De kamers waren fijn, goede airco. Lekkere bedden met gordijntjes en ruimte voor spullen in kastjes. Nachtlampje, stopcontact. Enige nadeel was dat de kamer naast ons (oktober 2024) bed bugs had, is naar idee, maar kan natuurlijk meegenomen zijn door andere backpacker, niet per see schuld van hostel per see. Mijn kussen had wel bloedvlekken, niet fris.

Our prior stay at Coco was pleasant. However, this time I found bed bugs in my bed just hours after checking in. After reporting it, staff suggested moving to another bed, but others also discovered bugs. We refused to stay that night and received a refund, moving to another hostel. While we understood it wasn’t entirely the hostel's fault, the experience was stressful. We suspected a prior infestation as a bed was missing a mattress. The cost of washing all our belongings exceeded the refund.

This hostel is only good for a stopover before doing the bungalows which you should book with Smileys over Coco (the rooms are way nicer). The beds were extremely comfy however, myself and my boyfriend both got bed bugs both times! (We stayed here 1 night before the bungalows & 1 night after). The hostel was good at booking us transfer to Koh Samui which was made a really easy process. Showers & bathrooms infested with ants.
