The 17 Hostel

Die Unterkunft lag zwischen einigen Bars und Clubs deswegen war es nachts sehr laut. Die Unterkunft war außerdem nicht sehr sauber und nach der 2 Nacht sind uns Bettwanzen aufgefallen, die wir dem Hostelbesitzer gleich gemeldet haben. Dieser hat sich jedoch gleich um das Problem gekümmert.

There was no hot water in the shower of my room, my friend didn't have a locker key for his locker, it's right next to a bar so it's incredibly loud through the night and ended up with a 5cm scratch on my upper leg - I'm not sure if it was from the coils of the bed/frame or if it was bed bugs.

I got bed bugs. I don't know if I recommend this hostel or not. It's your choice to decide. First of all, I got bed bugs. I don't know if the other people in the room got any so maybe it was just a traveler that brought them here and slept into my bed before me. These things happen and I was expecting it during my voyage but be careful. Second, the description of the hostel and 95% of the comments do not say that there are many bars all around the hostel. And when I say all around, I mean there is one under the rooms and one in front of the hostel. So, it gets very loud at night. However, the location of the hostel in general is amazing. Near by are markets, plenty of restaurants, laundry stores, and amazing beaches. It is in the center of the center! There are many tourists but not as much as in big cities. Lagos is charming and the location of the hostel really makes it easy for you to travel around. Also, the rooms are ok. Nothing to take your breath away, but they get clean every day, and the lockers are fine. However, the private bathroom in the 6 dorms mixed is not private at all. People from other rooms come and go as they want to use the toilet and the shower. Don't be surprised if it happens. Overall, the rooms are fine but they could be more welcoming. Finally, Tommy is very friendly. Always happy to help and make sure you are ok. He gives great tips about what to do, what to visit around the city and he knows everything there is to know (how to rent a car, where to go for this and for that). He is very welcoming and also answers your questions via texts and phone calls! One point though, I was not able to text or call him because of my cellphone. If you are traveling from outside Europe and you have technical problems with sending him messages like I did, that could be a problem for you. I was lucky my friend is from Europe and she was able to communicate with him for me. But there should be another easy way to communicate with him if you are in a situation like me. Otherwise, you will have difficulty seeing him and talking with him because often he is out around the hostel. So make sure your cellphone is working well or ask him for another way to be in touch with him during your stay. That's it! Now it's your choice to decide to go or not to the 17th Hostel:)
