Portree Youth Hostel

My dorm was located in the basement, with 10 bunk beds squeezed in to a small room. Beds are very flimsy, cheap and poor quality, not stable at all. When I was climbing to my top level bunk the whole bed started tipping over and I was very lucky that I managed to jump off it and stop the bed falling on me. Very luckily I avoided a serious injury. But the worst bit are the bed bugs. After 2 nights in this hostel I had around 40 bites in total on my arms, legs, back and head. I attached some pictures.

It was the worst place I’ve been to. I’ve never seen something that dirty and staff members that rude. They had bedbugs.

When we entered the room we noticed a black spot in the corner on the ground and we thought it has to be mold. Since one of us has some itching points on the legs since that night and after some googling, we assume that it was bedbugs and we want to warn about that! Additionally there should also be at least some spaces where it is possible to put personal stuff. We had everything on the ground (in our suitcases) because there was nothing to put the stuff on or in except two chairs. Also next to the bed there was nothing to put personal stuff on, like the phone. The reason for the bad review is that we really think that the owners and the staff should have seen the black spot, since we did in the first 5 minutes. We hope with this review that something is being done about it.

There was no parking as it was on a main road. There is a public car park right behind the hostel and it cost me 3 pounds from 6pm to 9am the following day so 15 hours, which wasn’t too bad.

We knew that we were coming to a hostel and everything that comes with it. Shared bathroom etc. However, one of my friends found bedbugs. One of bugs liked us so much that it decided to join our trip. We found him a couple of hours later dead half-way through my friend's skin. Thank God we had a doctor in our company and she was able to deal with the procedure of removing and disinfecting.
