Decent hostel. Had a horrible roommate, but that’s not their fault. Place felt pretty grimy. Stuffy nose as soon as I got into the room. There’s a good amount of dust and grime… and the breakfast area including the cereal boxes REALLY needed a wipe down. But overall it suited my for two nights and I left without bed bugs!

I got bitten by bed bugs. Had about 30 bites up my arm and feet. Showers were very dirty. Always smelled like urine in the showers. Had to keep pressing the shower button for water every minute.

Bru Bar & Hostel sits in a central Cork spot close to the station and city center, with a busy bar downstairs and the hostel above it. The location is the strongest draw: it is easy to reach and handy for moving around town quickly. The tradeoff is space and noise. Rooms can be very small, with tight bunk layouts and little room for bags or privacy. The building has multiple floors and no lift, so stairs are part of the deal. At night, sound can carry from the bar, the street, and the halls. Inside, the setup is basic rather than polished. There is a kitchen and a TV room, and breakfast is simple. Staff can be friendly and helpful, but some rooms and shared areas can feel worn or smoky, so comfort is not the strong side here.
