Urban Garden Hostel

The bedbug comments online makes you a bit paranoid, thankfully it was all clean with my room. Breakfast really needs some variation. But better than nothing. If you're not a picky eater and a hungry person, might make up for the price.

This hostel had BEDBUGS. We booked multiple rooms, and bedbugs were found in each. They later confessed that they also had bedbugs the week before in one of the same rooms "but they cleaned the room", and they also had a bedbug problem last summer. Also, i had to sleep on the floor because the railing of my bed was broken. They did not tell us this beforehand.

*Potential Bed bugs..The bathrooms were the best part about this hostel. They were cleaned twice a day. Unfortunately the beds/pillows were uncomfortable & its so loud at night. We moved after 1 night instead of the booked 3 nights because someone was moved into our dorm from a different dorm room with bed bugs. He showed us his bites, photos of the bug, and said the owner was going to investigate it. Staff said we would get a refund from hostelworld but it was a lie. Claimed it was mosquitos

I suffered theft at this hotel, resulting in the loss of my belongings.

The vibe of the room is a prison cell, so basic with no privacy. The lockers were not big. Got bitten by bed bugs & we asked for our money back and stayed elsewhere. They did not refund for the night that I got bitten, as we stayed there already. Money took around 5-6 weeks to get back to me after numerous asks and follow ups for the other 2 nights. Refused to give city tax back (4 of us paid this for 3 nights) which is bs, they could have copped the loss & do the right thing and refunded us the city tax too. Poor form considering the cost and situation.

Unfortunately I got bitten by bedbugs, my sheets were changed and I was offered to switch rooms but I don't think that solved the problem ://

Nous avons séjourné à l’Urban Garden Hostel en août 2025, et c’est de loin la pire expérience d’hébergement que nous ayons connue. Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été accueillis… par un problème de punaises de lit. Deux voyageuses canadiennes nous ont montré leurs nombreuses piqûres et nous ont prévenus que le problème était déjà connu dans plusieurs chambres. Nous avons été déplacés dans une autre chambre, pensant que cela réglerait la situation. Le lendemain matin, nous avons découvert des traces de punaises de lit sur notre matelas et un autre client nous a confirmé avoir été piqué quelques jours plus tôt. Le pire ? L’établissement refuse tout remboursement de la première nuit, alors que les conditions d’hébergement étaient insalubres et anxiogènes. Le personnel s’est montré totalement désinvolte face au problème, comme si cela faisait partie de la normalité. En résumé : propreté inexistante, infestation de punaises de lit, gestion déplorable des réclamations. Nous ne remettrons jamais les pieds ici et nous conseillons à tous les voyageurs d’éviter cet endroit.

I got bitten by bedbugs, I tried to contact the hostel after my checkout but they haven’t replied me yet. Don’t go to this hostel unless you want to suffer from severe itching for several days.

I was really looking forward to my stay, but unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience. The room I stayed in had bedbugs, and I ended up with bites all over my body. The person in the bed next to me had already mentioned bites the day before, thinking they were from mosquitoes. I didn’t hear any mosquitoes and suggested it might be bedbugs—sadly, I was bitten the next night. The room also had an unpleasant smell, likely due to the number of people staying there. I really recommend that management look into proper fumigation and improved hygiene to prevent future issues. I’ve stayed in many hostels before, and I know shared spaces come with challenges, but this was a serious one. I hope action is taken for the comfort and safety of future guests.

The location of the hostel is quite inconvenient, quite far from the coast and tourist areas. The staff was friendly. The air in the room was bad and at the same time it was very cold at night and because of that it was impossible to sleep. But the worst thing is that I was bitten by bedbugs in this hostel. Instead of using a duvet cover, they just give blankets without any cover. which are obviously never washed. It is very unhygienic and there, obviously, there can be not only bedbugs but also something worse. Terrible, fix it

- bed bugs - I’ve experienced them here for the first time in my life, I’m 26 and I’ve been traveling for 7 years now - no towel unless you pay - using the toilet was often not possible due to cleaning - uncomfortable bed - the mattress was covered with plastic bedsheet that made noise every time I moved - no night lamps or curtains in the dorms

It was dirty. Flies everywhere in the bathroom, bedbugs on the beds even though we asked before going to the room. No lockers and no curtains on the beds.

Bed bugs! They knew it, my roommate told them. They could prevent me to get it chamging my bad (I was under her) but no, just plastic in HER bad. I found a bug in me after leaving. That could not sabe all the good part 😖

Booked but did not stay here due to the recent reviews about bed bugs. I wouldn’t risk it and you should book somewhere else.

Établissement agréable mais nous avons trouvé une punaise de lit par terre et le personnel n'a pas compris pourquoi nous souhaitions partir et nous faire rembourser la dernière nuit... ils ont proposé de changer les draps ou d'avoir une autre chambre, aucune démarche à été faite pour traiter la chambre

Chinches (bed bugs) por todos lados, cuento más de 40 piquetes en mi cuerpo. El edificio que tienen alejado es viejo y sucio, pero las instalaciones del hostal están decentes.

Proche d'une rue passante donc beaucoup de bruit dans les chambres. Les autres clients ne respectent pas les règles et se permettent d'être bruyant peu importe l'heure... GROS GROS point négatif : je suis repartie avec des piqûres partout sur le corps, après un tour chez le médecin, il s'agit de punaise de lit !!!

Escadas horríveis, no segundo andar, para subir e descer com mala. Tem que fazem check In e checkout no outro Hostel. Péssimo. Tem percevejos nos colchões.

Je me suis fait voler mon Iphone 13 dans ma chambre. Aucun membre du personnel ne m'a aidé. J'ai été livré à moi même. J'ai dû prolonger mon séjour d'une nuit, pas de nuit offerte dû au vol de mon portable. Plusieurs connaissances dans l'hostel se sont fait voler de l'argent et des vêtements. Il y a eu aussi des cas de punaises de lit dans certaines chambres.

BED BUGS!!! Nightmare situation. Tons of bites on my body. Other guests complain too. The owner doesn't seem to care. This was a nightmare to deal with afterwards. I had to get rid of all my clothes and backpack. I have sent two requests for a refund and they never get back to me. Disgraceful on the owners part. The place should be shut down and effectively fumigated.

They insist on arrival that you must give them 10 euros in cash for a room card. I had to go out in the night and search for an ATM, as the one next to the hostel is out of order. Also, if you lose that card, they will keep that money. The card is not even worth a Euro, though. Besides, there is no sense of community or socializing in that hostel. I had bed bugs in one of the beds, but not in another. They house a lot of guests in a completely different building down the road. It has no elevator and the staff don't help you with the luggage.

HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I’ve never seen so many bed bugs in my life. I had so many bites and out of my 3 days in Lisbon, I wasted two afternoons washing and cleaning everything I had. Worst hostel bed experience so far. It was traumatized. Now, every time I stay in a hostel, I have double check everything. Just horrible! 🤢 The only consolation is the people who volunteer here are really sweet, but the owner needs to do some fumigation and deep cleaning. It’s a health hazard and spoiled my Lisbon experience for sure.

BEDBUGS. Based on other reviews they’ve had them for well over a month and I was NOT informed. Old building just quite nasty in general

BEDBUGS in the sister building (I was bitten up majorly). Since it was so bad for me I feel like they knew and didn’t tell me. Mold in the showers, etc. staff seems like they are not paying attention to upkeep at all. Avoid staying here if at all possible

After a few nights there I was changed rooms and had bed bugs in my bed. I know it is a hard topic but I am understanding enough to know that this can happen. What can not happen is the reaction of the receptionist when I told her. It was literally not caring at all showing no respect for guests.

Worst hostel we have EVER stayed in. Showers are not connected to the bedroom and have massive amounts black mold. Workers will barge into your room without knocking in the early hours of the morning to turn the AC off even if you asked multiple times for it to be on. We booked the female only dorm and were paired with a 40+ year old women who refused to have AC on. The solution was for us to change rooms to a mixed dorm (which we did). Female dorm had a black sheet of paper to block the Sun from coming in on one side and nothing on the other. After one night of our stay we checked reviews from another platform to find out that someone got bed bugs from this hostel 4 days before our arrival!!!!! After reading that, we decided to leave. After telling receptionist that we are leaving because the place is disgusting and has bed bugs they said “ok” and didn’t even try to deny the bed bug comment.

There were bedbugs in the bed!!!! Terrible! Also the bathrooms were dirty and the staff not very friendly. I have stayed in many hostels and this is definitely one of the worst. I do not recommend it.

BEEEDD BUGSS! This bed was so dirty and also the blankets, the bed bugs bited me like crazy and they didnt give us towels, also i waited for like 1 hour for them to open the door. I stayed here for taylor swift concert as everything else was booked but if you get the chance dont stay here

We had three beds reserved and two had BED BUGS 🐛 That's absolutely disgusting and not acceptable. We meet with 3 (!!!) other people who also reported Bad Bugs in their beds. We will not come back.

La saleté l'odeur qui donne envi de vomir les punaises de lit qui me piqué le sol plein de poussière et insectes tout ça je l'ai et en photo pour ne pas dire que je dis n'importe quoi cet endroit n'est pas fait pour être un hostel le fait de payer moins cher ne veut pas dire d'avoir un endroit pire que la rue allez y prenez un exemple du hostel Eklo à Paris 15eme un vrai exemple et staff digne de professionnalisme et de propreté...franchement toute la responsabilité est sur booking qui propose ce genre d'endroit car quand j'ai vu les avis sur Google après que j'ai pris le lit malheureusement c'est là que j'ai vu la réalité alors que sur booking il n'y a que le positif..ce ne sont que des arnaqueur puisque ils ont refuser de me rembourser la différence du prix que j'ai payer pour le dortoir femmes quand j'ai réclamé l'état de la chambre sale et sans draps ils m'ont changé vers une chambre mixte qui est moins cher j'ai envie de dire plus mais je sais que ça ne va pas changer grand chose.

The beds are very old as designs,..the mattresses are very old so the clients suffering of the springs which touch their backs, ...bed bugs were playing at our skins, should all mattresses replaced with new ones,as respect that we are human beings.. And the money isn't everything

Hi! I am coming from London in 15th may. I am worried about the bedbugs. I can’t get refund due to the policy so could you use the spray for the bedbugs? Thanks! I have severe allergy to them if i am bitten i could die!

The accommodations were unsatisfactory. The building and room were not clean, and the kitchen lacked necessary equipment. The staff were unable to address concerns effectively. I reserved an accessible room but was assigned one on the third floor without elevator access. Additionally, the window in the room was inoperable, requiring visits to the main building to request air conditioning adjustments, as remote controls were not provided. So far, there have been no issues with bedbugs

Alerte punaise de lit !! Be carefull : bedbugs!! J y étais la semaine passée et j ai eu des piqûres sur tout mon corps. Grosse infestation et pas vraimenz de réaction du manager.

Cette auberge est composée de deux bâtiments, les photos disponibles ne concernent que le premier bâtiment. Le second quant à lui est insalubre, il y a des punaise de lit et notre clef magnétique n’a jamais fonctionné. Autrement dit si personne est dans votre chambre vous ne pourrez pas rentrer. Les casiers présents dans la chambre sont tout petit et en très mauvais état, rongé par la rouille, puant … 👍 Bien évidemment le personnel de l’auberge vous demande de payer avant de vous parler du deuxième bâtiment et avant de vous montrer votre chambre ! Je vous conseille plutôt l’auberge SafeStay qui est bien mieux placée et de bien meilleure qualité avec un personnel de confiance

Tuvimos problemas con chinches , y esto es falta de desinfección, (los colchones y almohadas no están protegidos con fundas de plástico que se limpian muy facil) y de esta es la razón por lo que los insectos quedan

I got bedbugs here twice. The first time they switched my room and refunded me for only one of the two loads of laundry i had to do to remove the bugs. Then, for my third night, they switched my room again and I got bedbeds in the third bed. Should have left immediately after the first incident, but there was no where cheaper to stay. Overall hated my time in Lisbon because of this unfortunate experience, and they never refunded me after I sent two follow up emails begging for anything back after two bed bug cases. Be warned, they can't do anything to fix bed bugs except replace all of the mattresses. It's a hassle for sure.

Rooms are small. They have only blanket and we were cold. Air conditioner is not working. There is no curtains. Beds are not comfortable. They have sound while you’re turning in the bed. If you select single room in 4 bed dormitory, it is in the detached building that is quite old and small. There was no sunlight in our room. There are bed bugs.

Stayed here for 3 nights with 2 friends, we stayed in the detached building wish I regret badly! It is and old style building shared with other local residents about a 3 minute up hill walk from the actual hostel. It is a bit sketchy at night time a lot of dodgy looking blokes hanging around the place. As for the room well firstly to get to the room there is no elevator you have to climb 3 levels to get to the room. Rooms themselves aren’t all that but I suppose you get what you pay for! They are quite small but feel bigger because the ceiling is so high, which speaking of the bunk beds are very high off the ground to cater for the high ceiling so if you are on top and are short good luck! They squeak and shake a lot any slight movement from the person below or above you and you will be feeling it. Bedding- bedding is probably up there with the worst i’ve seen before we even got settled in my friends and I were staring at our bedding debating wether or not it was clean because it certainly didn’t look it so we opted to sleep in our clothes especially after seeing plenty of reviews about bed bugs! But in saying that we didn’t encounter any bed bugs I don’t know wether or nots its because we wore clothes im not entirely sure. Pillows were uncomfortable your head just goes straight through it and mattress’s weren’t all that either but I suppose you dont spend too much time in the room! Bathrooms-Toilets and showers were always cleaned every time I had to use one, a cleaner comes in everyday and cleans them they have a schedule book behind the door so you can see when it was last cleaned. Showers are so good probably the best shower I have ever used in a hostel by far! Bathroom is pretty spacious and plenty of hooks to hang clothes and towels from! We thought that was really and invasion of privacy as one time we were getting changed and he had done this everyday we stayed, and we thought it was odd as it was freezing cold and we had no reason to have it on!

Where do I start... - One of us was bitten by bed bugs... - The mattresses are not clean at all - There was humidity and mold - The curtains didn't work in our room - Since early in the morning there was music at the reception with strong bass, so our room was trembling. Impossible to chill or sleep during the day, as there was always this music - No cozy places to chill during the day / evening - The kitchen was closed after 23h, so if you come back at midnight, you have no access to the fridge with your food. - Even though a part of our party was arriving two days later(we still payed for their beds) they made us pay the city tax, even for the days that they weren't there. - Price was not clear, even though I sent them a message before my arrival. - It says that there is breakfast included (on the website you can see a nice full breakfast), but in reality, there were only store bought crackers and muffins in plastic wrappers. - We had to pay for coffee (that's supposed to be included in the breakfast) after 10 am! I think that the management is bad and not necessarily the staff..

The staff . Very friendly and helpful . I've had a very late check-in ,smth like 2 am ,the girl accompanied me to my room and someone put a few minor things on my bed maybe coz had thought nobody's arriving , the reception girl immediately ran to change the bedding to clean one . It was pretty clean and quiet . Free coffee and little croissants and crackers till 11 am was a huge bonus too! especially when you need that caffeine to kick in to start your day . I now moved to another hostel which has bedbugs and looks like people are squatting here ..wish I stayed at Urban Garden .
