Cambie Hostel - Seymour

Both nights the noise from the outside world were extremely clear within the room so that it was very hard to get to sleep. This is to be expected when you are staying in town, but the walls are so thin and the window isn't sound proof at all so it just felt like you were out on the streets with the noise. We stayed two nights and on the second night an extremely drunk man smashed his way down the hallway, and into our door/walls. I decided to read the Google Reviews at that point and they paint a different story to those on Booking.com. Google talks about rats walking across the room, bed bugs, and ringworm. The mens toilets were disgusting, unclean, urine all over the floors, used toilet paper thrown around and overflowing a bin. Cheap place to stay in the centre of the city, great if you are partying til the wee hours, but wouldn't recommend for any one else.

Wir hatten die Suite gebucht und mussten nach der ersten Nacht ausziehen, weil das Zimmer von Bettwanzen befallen war. Bis heute hat das Hostel kein Geld überwiesen, obwohl sie storniert haben und behaupten, sie hätten es getan. Es riecht übertrieben nach Minzöl und überall sind Ungezieferköder. Hier gibt es derzeit ein ernsthaftes Problem. Unser Urlaub hat durch den Bettwanzenbefall 1.000 Dollar mehr gekostet, da wir anschließend Freunde besuchen wollten. Da wir ihnen aber keine Bed Bugs ins Holzhaus schleppen wollten, mussten wir ausweichen. Zudem einen ganzen Tag unsere Wäsche waschen und Taschen desinfizieren. So startet kein Urlaub.

The hostel is above an insanely loud bar. Music so loud it vibrates in your soul. Earplugs don’t work for this loud of music! Loud music ended at 1am but then softer music kept going until 3am. Read reviews in the middle of the night trying to see how I missed the hostel being above a bar. Found tons of reviews about bedbugs and rats posted only 3 weeks prior. Didn’t see any, but it made it harder to sleep being worried about that all night!

NEVER again! This hostel was right above a late night bar. The music was so loud that earplugs almost made it worse? the bass was vibrating my whole body. While not sleeping I started looking at google reviews to see how I missed this, then found all the reviews about bedbugs and rats posted only weeks before. It was like a living nightmare impossible to sleep! Music stopped at 1am when the bar closed. Then started again but much quieter (staff closing the bar?). Didn’t stop till 2-3am. Terrible windows, hearing drunk people outside and smelling their cigarettes. So many things wrong with this place. BUT one star for not seeing any rats or bedbugs….

BED BUGS - DO NOT STAY HERE This hostel is completely infested with bed bugs! We stayed for one night, with the expectation that we would return for another 2 nights later in our trip (post visiting Vancouver Island). When I woke up in the morning my bed was covered in blood and squashed bedbugs that I had been rolling in all night. I took photo evidence and physical proof of bedbugs down to reception where I spoke to the manager Jose Ponte on the phone. He told me that I would get a full refund for my stay and was able to cancel my upcoming booking for free. It has been nearly a month and they have not authorised the refund despite booking.com reaching out to them. The best part is that they knew about this issue all along. After getting off the phone with Jose the lady on reception said "Im sorry about this issue, yeah we would have to completely close down our operations to sort the issue". This was a budget option for our trip but its not worth it. The rooms have barely enough space for 2 people to stand in and the facilities are cramped. I rebooked at a different hotel the next day for £50 more than what I originally paid and it was a much better experience. Do not stay here. (The pictures were taken of the bed in the room and the photo of the bed bugs was taken on their stair case next to their events board so it can be identified)

I had stayed at this hostel before and had a wonderful experience, which is why I booked again with my daughter. Unfortunately, this time was very different. On the first night, in room 217, a private one, my daughter was bitten all over her body by bedbugs. We immediately reported the issue at the front desk. The only solution offered was to move us to another room, but with all of our clothes already in the room we didn’t feel safe staying any longer. We decided to leave and book another place, which mean

Good location and large mixed dorm room with good ventilation but BED BUGS !! I was eaten alive on my one night stay.

The bed is dirty, we find couple bed bugs and been bitten, Then we check the bed and find more bedbugs crawling. I was so worried and afraid about the bitten. It’s not worth it to stay here.

Infested with bedbugs and loud AF until midnight. I can forgive the noise for the price, but the sanitation makes this place unsuitable for human habitation. You'll see reviews almost 10 years into the past with previous bedbug issues, and I'm sad to report as of 2025, they continue to be infested. The top sheets look clean, but you will not be able to see the bedbugs until it's too late. They do not fully strip the mattresses, and keep perpetual linen wrappings on them unchanged. We saw mice scampering the kitchen as well. I've been bitten by their bedbugs and will now have to try to decontaminate or risk spreading to my own home. Not to mention the possibility of disease transmission. When confronted with the bedbug infestation, the manager Jose offered a 25CAD gift card for Malone's a bar next door that they shill a lot. Jose made no attempt to address the actual problem, no promises of applying pest control measures, no suitable remedies for the situation. 10 years of this and it's no wonder they still have mice and bedbugs. The rooms are also unbearably hot with no AC. Again that can be forgiven for the price but the infestation, risk of disease, contamination and danger to the general Vancouver population is unacceptable. For your peace of mind, stay anywhere else.

I was hesitant because of other reviews mentioning rats and bed bugs, I saw either. I stayed in a two bed dorm and ended up being the only person in it. It was small and a bit run down but served its purpose for needing a place to sleep. The bar below was definitely loud. Fortunately I was tired and had earplugs so it wasn't an issue. I was on the first floor. The women's bathroom was clean and the showers had hot water.

Booked a 2 night stay here to visit a friend and her newborn. THE ROOM HAD BED BUGS. I didn't stay a second night. The room had poor insulation and the window doesnt fully shut. There was a crack on the wall that was letting a draft into the room. There was not a heater in the room, nor was it heated. I had to sleep with multiple layers on. The bed sheets were dirty, with weird red and black stains. The pillow had leftover makeup from someone else. I removed the sheets and the pillow, so I could sleep on the bare mattress. The blanket that was left neatly on the bed had shred marks and holes, like something was chewing on them. Removing all of this didn't matter because it wouldn't STOP THE BED BUGS. I heard someone complaining in the hallway about the bed bugs the night I stayed. I should have made a fuss about it since they got moved to another room. I was just trying to be nice. I ended up renting a hotel for the second night instead of staying there. I should've left the first night but it was late and there was an event nearby booking all the nearby hotels. The womens bathroom was outdated compared to the mens bathroom. Black mold on the ceiling of the womens bathroom due to poor ventilation inside. One of the two available toilets were out of order. For as many rooms there is, there should be another working toilet for the women. You can hear the rats running around at night and in the rooms. There was a rat trap next to my room. Kitchen was subpar with rat traps as well. I decided to return the keys on the day I was supposed to check out because of their dumb no-refund policy. Staff were friendly, but the room was NOT refundable. Which is horrendous considering the state of the room and facilities. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Biggest issue are the bed bugs, get a bed bug spray in your own home country to save some money. When you have bed bugs in your own bed, the rest of the issues doesn’t seem to matter anymore.

Hostel is in very convenient location and the staffs were nice. Atmosphere was also good if you are a party person. Room is full of bedbug. For reference, my room no. is 212 if you want to further investigate. I did stay for 5 nights and I’m really worried that I may bring back bedbugs from the hostel. Also I did saw a mouse in the kitchen area.

The private room (#116) is above Malones Bar. Noisy evenings if you want to sleep. Not a huge problem for me, but would be nice if this was advertised in the listing. More importantly, there are bed bugs.

The bed bugs. Everything else was really good especially the location. Even though we changed rooms and got a discount we spent an additional $70a on sprays, creams and antihistamines. The following 4 days were extremely uncomfortable until the medication took effect. Maybe the hostel should provide sprays etc. We understand how easily the bugs spread but it is disappointing to Be out of pocket because of then.

Don’t stay here!! While the hostel has a great location it had a mouse and bed bugs and we really did not enjoy our stay. We left after one night!! However, staff was very helpful and tried their best to find a solution.

The only good thing about this place is location , the place stinks literally , the people working just … meh , but the worst really the worst , is the cleaning , I had bed bugs , I have itches all over my back , had to be changed , took hours to clean my package , I waste one night on that Terrible

I stayed in Room 223 from Jan 18 to 21, 2024 and there are bed bugs in that room.

BED BUG INFESTATION! Do not book this hostel. I found bed bugs in my first room and then when they moved me I then found more in the second room. There were also massive holes in the walls where rats had borrowed. I found boogies wiped across the bed frame. There was no hot water. When you’re on the toilet you can see into the cubicle next to you. Honestly I have travelled Asia, Australia, Africa and South America and this is hands down the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Two person dorms are cramped, only one charging point too. Not Uber clean, someone said they found a bed bug. Bathrooms fine. No social areas, so not very sociable (I was there in November, not peak season). Bar below is so loud and keeps you up (they do give ear plugs if you ask).

In the Night it was so loud and warm in the bedrooms, so we could Not sleep well. it also smelled extremely of exhaust fumes, which is certainly not healthy. the toilets were often very dirty. the bed had bed bugs.

Bed bugs in room #212, in the bottom bed. They killed me. Super expensive hostel, i paid about 45 bucks / nite and it was really not worth it. For 45 bucks around the world they include many things in the price. Here extra: towel, no breakfast Super disappointed Staff are cool + location. But that’s it.

I had a terrible experience in this place. During my vacations my boyfriend and I had a reservation for the full week and I was bitten by bed bugs. We asked for a different room and we found the blankets full of these bugs. Please be careful and avoid a bad experience.

Terrible experience. Full of bed bugs. They refused my (uninsured) girlfriend compensation for an anti-itch gel. Also lacking in atmosphere despite the great location.

베드버그 물림, 쥐 봤음, 우선 여름인데도 불구하고 에어컨이 없어 후덥지근 함. 아래 펍은 너무 늦게까지 시끄러움. 욕실 협소함. 방 창문 바로 앞 발코니 같은 곳은 더러움. I was bitten by bedbug here haha. You know what? I saw a mouse also! What a awesome place.

I've stayed at the Cambie 3 times now, I usually stay here when I come over for weekend trips and concerts because it's walking distance to Roger's arena, relatively safe area and not near east side. I personally really love this place. It's cheap, yes it's very small but the bunk beds really aren't that bad and the private rooms do just fine for my friend and I. At 39$ at night between the two of us it's perfect. The taco place beside the hostel is great and the staff are friendly. Both my friend and I have used the showers many times and have never had issues or seen bed bugs. It's an old building, and things happen. I worked at a 4 star hotel that charged over 200$ a night and saw bedbugs. They aren't limited to old places. There is a bed bugs registry for Vancouver for anyone worried, but if you just want a cheap place to sleep this place is fine. Some people are loud but what do you expect ? Go have fun! It's a perfect little place

No never again will I ever go back to this place right when you open the door to the room it has a weird smell even the hallways smell horrible too. The walls in room 110 we're filthy you can tell they were never cleaned then to top that it was severely infested with bedbugs we got out of there so fast and got our money back that was a huge plus there we ended up staying at the empire landmark it was cloud 9 there and for less then when we paid at the seymore

Horrible stay! I had to change my room because I found BEDBUGS. In my new room I checked the bed first and found BEDBUGS again falling from my pillow. Don't sleep there!!! I didn't want to stay so at least I got my money back. The only positive aspect I can think of.

Had a room so I didn't check out the dorms but the room was decent for the price. The only thing that bothered me was that there was no mention of bedbugs until I got into my room and saw the warnings on the back of the door. Kinda shady but can't really complain for the price and there weren't any in the room I stayed in.

I am LITERALLY COVERED In bed bug bites. I stayed in room 210 for 3 nights and i cannot believe how many bites i have. DO NOT stay at this hostel. despite the facts that the people that run it are nice. unless you want to be covered in bites and potentially bring some bugs home with you, i do NOT recommend this hostel.

BED BUGS INFESTATION! Room 101-in the trash, in the bed- I have over 30 bites and was up till 4 am getting it out of my luggage and cleaning clothes before traveling home. The staff at the time on-site VERY nice, but BED BUGS are BED BUGS. I've hosteled a lot EU, US South America, this was not the best regardless of the bed bugs. Dirty window seal, no ventilation/fans and no screens in the window = no air. 1 of 2 showers not working. A basket of muffins ans coffee maker = breakfast, but after the bugs I was less interested in having their food. 1st time EVER that I wish I'd gotten a room at the Ramada. It was just dirty and gives awesome hostels a bad name. I promise you...look at the window seals!!! PS A Rash can last between 3-14 DAYS.
