Maya Hostel El Nido

This hostel looks the part but it genuinely has a really strange vibe that I just can’t put my finger on. Myself & my partner had a private room, no bed bugs (we checked after reading previous reviews). However, the bed was the most uncomfortable thin mattress, the aircon is very noisy and there was an overwhelming smell of damp in our bathroom. The shared amenities looked clean but we didn’t use them. It’s a great location, but I think you can find better value for money elsewhere.

Its worth ur money!! I never had a problem with bed bugs (as I read alot of bad reviews before going) and the staff were all nice. I wish it was more social cz the facility is top tier, alot of potential being #1 hostel in El Nido. The only prob I had was with the wifi (only works on common spaces). Other than that its a 10000/10 THE BEST HOSTEL VIEW IN EL NIDO!

BED BUGS! I want to start off by saying I think I have only written a bad review twice in my life. I am pretty adaptable and flexible and can handle most things. I am not the person who complains about every little things and writes bad reviews all the time. I have stayed in 75 hostels in my life and never have I experienced bed bugs until this time. I saw that there were some mixed reviews for this hostel but the pictures looked great and I booked last minute so there was not a lot of options. I saw some positive ones too so I was hoping it would all be good but I WISH I NEVER BOOKED HERE. I stayed here for 5 days and I noticed a bug or two near my curtain but it didn’t register in my mind it was bed bugs. By day 3, I had hung my jacket on the curtain to dry and there was 1000’s of bed bugs all over my jacket. I went downstairs to tell reception and she didn’t act with urgency but just said she called housekeeping. Housekeeping never came so I went down a second time and asked to move rooms. The lady at reception told me all the rooms are fully booked which was a lie. I then asked if they can wash my clothes because now there are bugs and she lied again and said “we don’t have a washer or dryer”. How do you wash all your sheets and linen in the hostel then? So ridiculous. When housekeeping came to my room and confirmed it was bed bugs, she saw I was freaked out. She comforted me saying she will wash all my clothes downstairs as there are several washers and dryers and make sure the lady moves me to another room. Once we talked to the lady at the front, I moved rooms. The housekeeping lady is named Ashlita and without her kindness, I do not know what I would do. The bathrooms never have soap and do not look like they are cleaned often but I looked past all of that. But bed bugs is where I draw the line. As soon as the woman heard me say “bed bugs” she should have immediately moved all the people in that dorm somewhere else and offered to wash our stuff to make sure it doesn’t not spread. Then they should have done a deep cleaning of that room to ensure they are for sure gone before letting other people stay. But that is not what happened. I left that room at 8pm and the next day, all the dorms, including mine were full with new people. They do not care that if not addressed properly, bed bugs will move with person to person and as travellers we will be carrying that with us to our next spot. They lacked professionally and care at the front desk and I am so shocked.

Bed bugs!!!!!!!!!!!! We had bed bugs and staff were so rude, laughing at us when we told them, lied to us that they had no rooms to move to yet then moved us after 20 minutes of saying we weren’t going to sleep with bed bugs! One guy was very helpful about it tho! Rooms were a bit stinky, aircon was working overtime though, thank goodness! WiFi is also s**t xxx

BED BUGS! Front desk did not act with urgency and dismissed me. The only helpful person was Ashlita the housekeeper who said she would wash my clothes for me. The front desk lady refused to move me to another room and lied and said it was all full and that they didn’t have a washer or dryer. So unprofessional. Then they moved me and still put other people in the dorm that had the bed bugs without cleaning properly… the worst place I have stayed in and I have been in 75 hostels in my life.

BED BUGS!!! AVOID! Thankfully the cockroaches in the showers made us think to check the beds before we got in and thankfully we did as there were bed bugs all over the sheets. When we told the reception they offered us a different room but when we asked if the bed bugs would be in there the staff just laughed, suggesting that they are in every room. We got a refund and left immediately. Sadly we put a couple clothes on the bed that had to be thrown away.

The hostel is very social—I had lots of conversations with other travelers easily. It’s very clean, classy, and new, not old or worn anywhere. The view from the rooftop is beautiful, especially with the pool. The breakfasts are fine if you’re in a hurry. You should budget 150 PHP each way to get to the city. We had a problem where only one out of four beds had bedbugs from a previous visitor. We communicated with the staff, and they cleaned everything and moved us to another room. Very good service. For example, at night, if you need to use the bathroom for a number two, there won’t be toilet paper.

On my 3rd night, I woke up with 30+ bite marks, likely from bed bugs. Reception denied the issue, claiming "they were new so bed bugs are impossible for us to have." This was despite other guests switching rooms for the same problem 2 days before.The staff were rude, dismissive, and laughed at my concerns, calling me “too emotional”. Also, Wifi and service don’t work, and the overpriced food was poor. Even if they respond to this review, it will just cover up the bed bug issue. Don’t stay here
