Great stay at the hostel. I met great people and it was really clean (no bed bugs). I had a room with the bathroom inside so I can’t speak about the shared one. The kitchen is quite small and in the “basement” (so not a lot of light) but everything needed to cook (except oil). There is no lounge where you can work unfortunately but there is a coffee place near to the hostel. The location could not be more perfect !!

I want to preface this by saying that in the first two days here they found a bedbug infestation in my room. Deal-breaker, you'd think, but hear me out. First off, I didn't notice any bites, even though I have allergic reactions to them. I only found out because they do daily bedbug checks and informed me personally the second they discovered them. They sprayed the rooms within the day and offered to let me use the staff laundry to kill any that might be on my clothes. They also have an exterminator in once a week to do a more proper check. I'm giving them five stars because on top of this, it's a really nice hostel, run by really nice people, and I wanted to credit their diligence and professionalism. As a guy who's dealt with a bedbug infestation at home and panics at the very notion of them, this basically turned a nightmare into more of an inconvenience. And frankly, if you're that afraid of bedbugs, what in the heck are you doing vacationing at a hostel? The character of a place is defined by its response to adversity. Hi Hostel St. John's handled one of the worst things that could happen in a hostel perfectly, and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Les tours de Dave et son aide navette font de City Hostel plus qu'un lit cheap au downtown de St. John's. L'auberge peut vous connecter avec Cape Spear, Petty Harbour, les routes de Signal Hill et la logistique de l'East Coast Trail, avec stockage des bagages et aide locale pratique parfois dans le deal. L'emplacement est la superpuissance principale : une maison colorée de Gower Street/Jellybean Row proche du harbour, de George Street, pubs, boutiques, arrêts de bus et marches vers Signal Hill et Quidi Vidi. Ça marche surtout comme base low-cost pour explorer la ville, les trails et la nightlife sans avoir besoin de beaucoup de transport. À l'intérieur, attendez-vous à un petit setup backpacker old-school plutôt qu'à une auberge hangout polished. La cuisine est utile et généralement bien fournie, mais elle peut être le seul vrai espace partagé et elle est au sous-sol. L'atmosphère peut être chaleureuse, avec Dave, Jeff, Roxanne et des résidents longue durée qui lui donnent un feeling de maison locale vécue, même si le côté social n'est pas garanti.

- Les salles de bain sont un point faible récurrent : l'accès douche/toilettes partagées peut être limité, des attentes peuvent arriver, et l'état des salles de bain a été irrégulier.
- Il peut ne pas y avoir de réception avec staff, et les instructions de self check-in ou de paiement peuvent sembler floues.
- Les chambres peuvent être serrées, les lits peuvent grincer ou sembler inconfortables, et les prises ou l'espace de rangement peuvent être limités.
- Il y a peu ou pas de vrai lounge, donc c'est mieux pour explorer St. John's que pour rester dedans toute la journée.
- La propreté et le confort sont irréguliers ; certaines parties peuvent sembler bien tenues, tandis que d'autres chambres ou salles de bain peuvent paraître rough.
