Great stay at the hostel. I met great people and it was really clean (no bed bugs). I had a room with the bathroom inside so I can’t speak about the shared one. The kitchen is quite small and in the “basement” (so not a lot of light) but everything needed to cook (except oil). There is no lounge where you can work unfortunately but there is a coffee place near to the hostel. The location could not be more perfect !!

I want to preface this by saying that in the first two days here they found a bedbug infestation in my room. Deal-breaker, you'd think, but hear me out. First off, I didn't notice any bites, even though I have allergic reactions to them. I only found out because they do daily bedbug checks and informed me personally the second they discovered them. They sprayed the rooms within the day and offered to let me use the staff laundry to kill any that might be on my clothes. They also have an exterminator in once a week to do a more proper check. I'm giving them five stars because on top of this, it's a really nice hostel, run by really nice people, and I wanted to credit their diligence and professionalism. As a guy who's dealt with a bedbug infestation at home and panics at the very notion of them, this basically turned a nightmare into more of an inconvenience. And frankly, if you're that afraid of bedbugs, what in the heck are you doing vacationing at a hostel? The character of a place is defined by its response to adversity. Hi Hostel St. John's handled one of the worst things that could happen in a hostel perfectly, and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I tour di Dave e l'aiuto con shuttle rendono City Hostel più di un letto economico nel downtown di St. John's. L'ostello può collegarti con Cape Spear, Petty Harbour, percorsi di Signal Hill e logistica dell'East Coast Trail, con deposito bagagli e aiuto locale pratico a volte inclusi nel pacchetto. La posizione è il superpotere principale: una casa colorata su Gower Street/Jellybean Row vicina al porto, George Street, pub, negozi, fermate bus e camminate verso Signal Hill e Quidi Vidi. Funziona meglio come base low-cost per esplorare città, trail e nightlife senza bisogno di molti trasporti. Dentro, aspettati un piccolo setup backpacker old-school più che un hangout hostel rifinito. La cucina è utile e di solito ben fornita, ma può essere l'unico vero spazio condiviso e si trova nel seminterrato. L'atmosfera può essere calda, con Dave, Jeff, Roxanne e residenti di lungo periodo che le danno un feeling vissuto da casa locale, anche se il lato sociale non è garantito.

- I bagni sono un punto debole ricorrente: l'accesso a doccia/toilette condivise può essere limitato, possono esserci attese e le condizioni dei bagni sono state incostanti.
- Potrebbe non esserci reception presidiata, e self check-in o istruzioni di pagamento possono sembrare poco chiari.
- Le camere possono essere strette, i letti possono cigolare o sembrare scomodi, e prese o spazio di deposito possono essere limitati.
- C'è poca o nessuna vera area lounge, quindi è meglio per esplorare St. John's che per restare dentro tutto il giorno.
- Pulizia e comfort sono incostanti; alcune parti possono sembrare ben tenute, mentre altre camere o bagni possono sembrare ruvidi.
